  1. Wow. I am so thankful I have you guys for my addiction to packing and preparing. So I went to Kmart today (yes they do still have some stores) and I found the insulated mugs with a Freeze eaze in the center. Just stick in it the Freezer and the center tube freezes. $1 at Kmart in the camping section. And it's a BIG mug!

I finally located the over the door plastic shoe rack when shopping at Kmart. They wanted $8!!! $8 is a lot of money for an o.t.d.p.s.r. I mean come on! Needless to say, I did not buy it. I bought a off-white tweed shoe rack at the $ store. You can't really see through it - but it will have to do.

I cannot find Bonine or Ginger Pills yet. I think I have to go to the health food store for the Ginger Pills. Anyways, I bought drowsy-free dramamine. hmmm.... I am not so sure I like that, but anyway.

Another thing I did was buy one of those composition books (black and white cardboard cover). Anyways, I took it home and cut and pasted pictures of the destinations I was going to and the small itinerary and small map from the Carnival Book. Then I put a laminating sheet on the front and back (after I decorated it) to protect it. My own personalized diary so to speak.

I bought two packages from Eckerd - Buy one get one free - two-pack disposable cameras - One for underwater and one for land. A good deal 4 cameras for $14.00.

I am so excited I cannot even stand it. I am driving my DH nuts. But I am not nuts - so that's good!

oh my - I didn't tell you - I even bought the frozen corn to feed the fishes when I go to Cemetery Reef in Grand Cayman. I have freeze-packs to keep them iced when in port). (I read somewhere that you get to experience "the pirahna experience" when you release the corn in the water). Maybe we shouldnt feed the fish - but don't they get hungry?

I guess I will buy my liquor at the last minute! I got to figure out exactly how I am going to smuggle (such good ideas on this board!).

Great cruise mugs!!!! Good luck finding some!

Sounds like you got great mugs!!! That's great!! Now people know they can get them at K-Mart if they still have any around!!

I went for the $7 or $8 over the door to get the clear one. I figured if I'm going to buy one at the dollar store and leave it every time, cruise at least 2 times a year, in the long run I'll save money to buy one that will last for many many cruises!! (And I love the one we have!! Would really miss it if we didn't cruise with it!!)

My DH has found that my addiction has caused us to take so many handy items cruising with us that he has started loving my addiction!! This board has so many great tips!! It sure has added to our cruising enjoyment!! I love it!! :D

  2. I know this may sound ridiculous, but I cannot find that Plastic Over the Door Shoe Rack anywhere! And I live in Miami!! You would think the dollar stores would be overrun with the shoeracks. The only shoe rack I can find are the woven scruffy feeling ones that are not see through!! It is driving me nuts!

Also I cannot find the big insulated mugs. The only thing I find are cheapo plastico sippy mugs! Or the itty bitty thermos coffee mugs! That's not enough room to fit a mixed drink in! It's driving me nuts!

Anyone else live in Miami, or anywhere for that matter, that knows where I can find the last two packing items on my list? Much thanks to those with suggestions!

We got our clear plastic shoe rack at Wal-Mart. It is fabulous!! We've used it many times. I'd rather have one that will last as opposed to having to go find one at the dollar store every cruise! You find it where the hangars and closet items are at Wal-Mart. They are not expensive. I may have paid $7? I'm not sure but it wasn't too much and definitely worth every dollar I paid!!

We also bought a small cooler at Wal-Mart that we take and have the room steward keep it full of ice. Then we have lots of ice for our mugs, etc. Really love it too!!

  3. I see that you have sailed the Caribbean Princess twice. We leave next week for the St. Thomas/St. Maartin cruise. Can we use our own laptop (which has a wireless card) without getting charged? Is it advisable to pack a bottle of wine in our suitcase, with a wine opener? Any advice for this ship? This is our first cruise and we are taking our 2 daughters who are in their early twenties.

    Thanks.

    Hi!

There is a charge for using your laptop. I checked into it once but I have forgotten how much it was. There would be a charge for using their computers also until you are a Platinum member. I wish I could remember how much it all costs. I'm sure you can call 1-800-Princess and ask. Or you might do a search here on Cruise Critic, I'm sure it has been a subject.

You might want to put your wine in a carry on bag. I've heard horror stories of seeing it leaking out of the bags!

We love the Caribbean Princess!! We have sailed her 3 times. You'll want to check out the deck over the Bridge. Go all the way forward on the Lido deck, past all the rooms and find the door that goes outside. It is a wonderful place in my opinion!!! The first night onboard is a wonderful seafood buffet in the Caribe cafe. Lobster and such. Every night after 11pm they serve steaks in the Caribe cafe, made to order from a menu, that are delicious! They say they are the same steaks they serve in the Steakhouse. I believe it they were wonderful!! You will want to make reservations for the "Movies Under the Stars" as soon as you get on board!!! The reservations are free and you can always turn your tickets back in if you decide not to go but they fill up fast so you'll want to book that right away, even before you go to the buffet for lunch!! :D

Hope you have a wonderful time!!! We loved it!!! :D Loved St. Thomas and St. Martin also!!! The Champayne Catamaran trip to St. John from St. Thomas was wonderful!!! The America's Cup sailing in St. Marteen was a once in a life time experience!!! Fabulous!!! I would choose to be the "iceberg watcher" if I did it again!! It was far too much work as a primary grinder, but would have been a wonderful experience to just enjoy the boat!! Those were our favorite excursions. Otherwise we just took tours of the islands.

Any other questions, feel free to ask!! Bon Voyage!! :D

  4. Call me blonde... (well, ok... I am ...) but I just don't get the shoe rack thing??

    Help!??

They are wonderful!!! We never have to wonder where something is. It's in the shoe thing (we hang it on the outside of the bathroom door.) We love it!! It definitely needs to be the clear pockets so you can see exactly what is in it. Lotion, sunscreens, clothespins, Downy Wrinkly Releaser, Lysol spray, any tolietries, etc., etc.

  5. of nonsense I ever read. Where do you think you are going, on a self guided safari in the jungle? You are going on a first rate cruise, like going to a first rate hotel. If you actually need any of this stuff and the likelihood is highly remote, you can always buy it or ask for it.

Pack like you were going to a good hotel and don't believe this nonsense.

Come on! This is no more nonsense than you enjoying showering in the spa area! An awful lot of these items make my cruising so very enjoyable!! :D

  6. Couldn't you just fill a water bottle with the vodka and just carry it on board? Fill it so it looks like you took a couple of sips out of it and I can't imagine they would open your water bottles and smell the water!

One of the solutions to this problem, as I see it, is to cruise with Princess and take a case of water with the center ones filled with vodka and have a party all week long! :D

  7. Hi!

I don't feel bad about being frugal!! We take more than a case of water on board. Some of the water might suspiciously taste like Vodka (a mark on the bottom of the bottles with a marker is handy!!) The plastic bottle of A&W cream soda might suspiciously taste like Captain Morgans rum (but looks exactly the same!)

The very large insulated mugs that we carry everywhere on board are a wonderful perk of reading everything on these boards. (We generally don't take them in the dining room on formal night, although I have been known to!) My husband now fixes a cocktail in the glasses in the staterooms and takes his cocktail to the dining room with him.

We purchase liquor onboard or in port for less than half what we pay in the states and then we have the liquor for the next cruise at a much discounted price!!

We don't have to fly to port so we take a small cooler (just a bit bigger than a six pack) on board and have our room steward keep it filled with ice so we always have plenty. If you fly and need to conserve space, you can fill your insulated mug with your drink and stop by any bar and ask them to fill with ice.

There are tons of ideas if you keep reading the boards here!
