  1. We're in the same boat (pun intended!:). Then, factor in your time zone! At least we are only an hour off. I've looked this island over as we've never been and just figured if we sleep in too late to really "do" anything, it seems they have a decent enough port area with shops and places to stop in (Pusser's Pub for a painkiller) to at least say we did something. But, I agree. It sucks. Didn't stop me from booking though! :)

  2. Thank you for your brief but so wonderful update on the state of NOLA! Fell in love with your city back last December and so looking forward to another visit, hopefully sooner than later. Loved everything about NOLA, less the certain smell in the air on Bourbon St! lol ;-) You brought back some memories for this moment and I am grateful. I hope the impending hurricane doesn't bring too much force to the area and everyone stays safe.

Love from Wisconsin. Winter's a comin'! Boooo! :D

  3. Hi there,

I pulled this off of NCL.com:

    How CruiseNext Works

CruiseNext is an exclusive program that gives you a free onboard credit to use on your current cruise vacation in exchange for putting down a $250 deposit on a future Norwegian cruise of six days or longer.

Here's the more detailed link: https://www.ncl.com/travel-blog/everything-you-need-to-know-norwegian-cruisenext-program

So no, unfortunately you cannot use it on a 5 day cruise.

  4. We haven't been to Europe at all (yet), but I'm still going to chime in with my thoughts cuz you asked! :D I'd do.... EITHER! Ha! I know, not helpful, huh? But it's apples and oranges! I will say this... I looked at WHEN you could go, and the 9 Day Scandinavia one had multiple dates whereas the Greece/Turkey had just the one, and they weren't exactly close in dates. Maybe that doesn't matter to you? Does the ship matter to you? 9 day is on the Escape & 10 day is the Star. Different class of ships. Either of those itineraries looks absolutely wonderful! Good luck making a decision! Just book one now and put the other one on your list for later. ;-)

Wow, I posted this almost 8 years ago and I still see people using it today. How awesome is that. I still visit NOLA every year for Thanksgiving, but I haven't sailed out of it in a long time. I always thought it would be pretty cool to see someone using this while on the same cruise. Happy sailing!!!

We are another couple very happy to be able to print this out and use this as we cruise along!! Thank you! Obviously a few things may have changed, but the gist is there and it will be very neat to have this (and there was another list in here that we will utilize as well) for those that are unfamiliar, like us! Can't wait to spend some time in the Big Easy as well as enjoy our much needed cruise! ❤️

  6. Have a Dec 2019 New Orleans cruise booked for a few weeks prior to seeing our city in the options for free airfare. Just kept checking specials etc.. and did a mock booking late last week to include airfare as our city was in there. Called the NCL rep on the # on our reservation and told him that we were coming in a day early and leaving a day late to spend time in NOLA and he specifically told me "people do that all the time" - no worries. Just call this # for the flight part of NCL and talk to someone there. ........  Nope. No can do - as for flights a day early/day late. I asked the abrupt/blunt lady, who was obviously having a bad day and loved pointing out the policy to me, to return me back to the reservation area and did confirm that with another much more pleasant gal who answered. Love it when you get one NCL rep telling you one thing and another, another. Please... just get your stories straight. I tried for airfare, but I'm still going on vacay with or without.. just help a lady out here please! A moment of "ALRIGHT!!" to "meh... well, back to planning my still amazing, if not a little more costly, vacation!"

As for ddlb getting different flight days, I cannot speak to that. Maybe it depends WHERE you are going??? I don't know why that would matter, but it could be the only logical answer. I would call an NCL rep or chat online and ask. They'd be the ones that would really know.

Oh, and NCL will not reduce your cruise for any amount of $ if you choose not to take airfare. LOL Kinda... your loss, but.. does it work for you??

  7. Our family also went to Chankanaab in Cozumel and swam with Lilly. :) DS was 8 and DD was 10 at the time and it was one of the most memorable, exciting times on our cruise! The gentleman who talked us through several interactions with Lilly was pleasant. We were with another family that wasn't (or so it seemed) as excited/happy(?) as us, but... The experience was just out of this world and I personally was so grateful to have experienced such an awesome animal and get to have a truly once in a lifetime event, albeit too short! :) The pictures they charge are crazy expensive so be prepared, and you are not allowed to bring your camera with you. We also booked directly online and did it well in advance for a cheaper rate. You choose a time that suits you and around that spend the down time snorkeling, eating some fabulous mexican or walk their gardens etc.. Chankanaab is a wonderful place!! The website can give you much more info, as this place has in my opinion a lot more going on than just dolphins. Just google Chankanaab.

  8. I am disappointed about the fireworks as well. Almost moved cabins to be on the correct side, I'm glad I didn't bother now. I am very disappointed about Harvest Caye as I really did not want to go to Belize City again. Although the more I hear about Harvest Caye, I'm not sure I wanted to go anyway.

Not too sure about the shows. I always liked Legally Blonde the movie and I'm not too sure about MDQ. CMT is filming the series here. I never go to anything in town for it, so why do I want to see it on a cruise ship?

I hear you about Belize. I know they have the cave tours, but honestly I think that will be a stop we will just have the ship to "ourselves". That sounds like a ton of fun to be honest. ;) I know the pool area will not be so crowded etc. so we are planning on that. If by chance Harvest Caye opens earlier, we'll certainly check it out. What have you heard that makes you hesitant?

Never saw the movie - LB. Just didn't sound like something I'd like or have any interest, but I love the idea of the MDQ. I did not think I'd think too much of the 4 seasons on the Pearl either, but went and boy was I entertained. I'm in my mid 40's, so maybe an age thing???? :D

  9. Just because you feel that way, does not mean that others should feel like that. There are still a lot of people (at least until next year) that have booked their cruise with the premise of seeing fireworks onboard.

(I've been on Getaway twice, first time with fireworks and second time without – honestly didn't miss them on second time, but I do understand why people are disappointed and rightfully so.)

You are speaking for me. It was one very cool thing we were looking forward too and I made sure we had the balcony on the correct side just for them... but that being said, I certainly know that it was NOT a deal killer for sure! Just a little disappointing, but moving on! They have switch many things around since I first booked this cruise. Upset to completely bummed out about no Harvest Caye for us... pretty grateful for Million Dollar Quartet. :) All said and done... I am not at work & chillin' in the Caribbean. Yay Us!

  10. Thank you so much for the review! I haven't seen anything very positive and was getting a little concerned for our trip this summer.

I just want to say to you... take it all with a complete grain of salt! It is much easier for most to gripe about all these "little things" than to post what a wonderful time they had. Most vacations come with some hiccups, but you really make it what it is. ;) I think we'll both have an AWESOME time on aboard the Getaway when our trip rolls around!! :D

  11. Thanks for the positive upbeat review! We are so looking forward to our cruise on the beautiful Getaway this coming Oct.! I am trying hard to convince my hubby that we could totally live in Fla. when we retire (so sick of winter - booo!), but he is unsure of the humidity & summer oppressive heat. He loves cruising now though, so that is an incentive! Plus I think feeding the outdoor wood burner in those artic blasts we can get time to time may help. ;) We will be down a few doors from where you stayed. Not too bad a walk after getting off the lift, eh?

I hope you adore the Pearl as much as we did! She was our 1st and has special memories. :) She won't be anywhere near as "posh" or even that Miami vibe, but she sure is a wonderful girl in her own right! Have a spectacular time! That is one on our bucket lists as well... that and the Panama Canal!

  12. Happy 1st post! :D

While I don't really have an answer for you, I hope you will get some good replies shortly! We are on the Getaway in Oct, but my kiddos will be in the same cabin, which is fine with us. I do hope that this will work out for you! Seems to me it may, but I have heard of the "under 21 rules" so let's wait and see if you get some info from those who have experienced this soon. :)

  13. quite welcome! ;) In case you have any other "little" (but important) questions, here's a helpful hint... Google your question. If you hit those important key words (ie. Getaway/Escape balcony room indents) most likely you will see cruise critic pop up as an option to select where others have asked that very question. Lots of inquiry minds want to know!! :D It has helped me.

  14. Here is an old thread with the same question about the indents ... http://boards.cruisecritic.co.uk/showthread.php?p=46788671&highlight=getaway ... and a blurb taken out of it that will give you a good idea: If you look at cabin 9212, you will see the one wall has an indented portion in the middle of the wall. The beds will have the headboard where these indentations are, so for 9212 the bed will be closer to the door, but the room next door, 9214 has a protrusion where the room 9212 indent was, so the bed in 9214 will be to the side of this protrusion, near the balcony. Just look for the indent. If it's in the middle of the wall, the bed will be by the closet. If the wall doesn't have an indent and actually protrudes into the room, the bed will be next to the balcony.

Also, the + and the triangle mean that the + sleeps 4, the triangle will sleep 3.

Hopefully that answers your ?. :)

  15. Thank you so much for your review! We will be taking our DD 12 and DS 10 this coming Oct. and have a corner balcony on the 12th floor as well. Sooo happy to see a review that will be similar! :) I am just like KarimaJ in that I have more of a conservative parenting style, but really thankful Legally Blonde is gone and the Million Dollar Quartet will be playing during our sailing! I've read some pretty unhappy people sailing on the Escape that will not be viewing that come May I believe. Unfortunately their loss is our gain! lol (sorry) We do not intend to use the kids programs that much I believe (kids love their parents too much:D), so I am interested in hearing how much you may have utilized that, or if you kept the kids mainly with you and how that all went. And, how was that balcony??? That I am stoked about, especially with the complaints about how small the standard ones are.

    Thanks again for your review!

  16. LOL :D oh my, I am getting a great visual in my head about your "Party Tour"!! Too funny!! I am sure there are folks on this site that would be all over that, however for myself and my husband (in our mid to late 40's and not too much into the whole drinking thing) are well beyond that type of partying ourselves and would be pretty disappointed with this tour, let alone... the heights!! yikes to that! Still, love your description!! It was great for a morning chuckle. :D

Thank you for carrying on with your trip! We all appreciate your writing skills and are thoroughly enjoying your review! Merry Christmas ~ Happy Holidays!

  17. Thank you from one great mom to another!! :D Been looking for a review like this for a while. My DH and 12 & 10 year old's will be going this time NEXT year and cannot wait!! We previously sailed on the Pearl(8 &10) and in choosing between cruising or Disney World(6 & 8), my kids LOVED cruising far better! Can't afford DCL, but NCL really does a great job thinking of the kids. I know they are dropping Nickelodeon this Jan., but that really isn't what we would be going for anyway. Thanks SO much for details on what your little ones did with you. You sound a lot like us in that the kids are mainly with us, though they will spend a little bit of time at the Splash Academy I am sure.

I do have a ? ... did you take the kiddos to Howl at the Moon, and if not, did you feel it was family friendly? I may have more ?'s, but that is it for now as I know you are detailed and I will wait and see what else you write! You are doing an awesome job and it is much appreciated!! :)
