  1. Have you ever tried a curling wand? Imagine a roughly one inch curling iron, but no clip. It takes some practice but I have thick frizzy hair and I look like the lion king in the summer without it. Using a hair oil, try OGX, available at any drug store, with a curl mousse. ( I like tre semme 24hr) rough blow dry, then touch up with the wand. I get beachycurls and tons of compliments. I finish with a sugar spray. Less dry then salt and smells awesome. Eyelash extensions and a bright lipgloss and you’re good!

  2. In just came upon this thread by accident! First off congrats to all of the brides!

In my experience, ( I'm a makeup artist), fibre mascaras flake like crazy, and in the heat can actually start to curve downward.

Best way to apply false lashes: squeeze out some glue, use an eyeliner brush and apply glue to your eyelid lash line as if it were eyeliner. Let it become tacky, then position your strip lashes on top.

Try it a few times way easier than putting glue on lashes themselves, particularly if you are a beginner

  3. I also agonize over what purse to carry and I definitely prefer a crossbody. After much thought, I have decided to pull out my old trusty LV Odeon GM to take on our upcoming Rhine river cruise. It's roomy, goes with everything, and hopefully enough European that I'm not screaming tourist

    .

    LV matches everything. :)

  4. Check out old navy for their soft pants. Super cute and I see teens wearing them. They are kind of billowy and very on point trend wise. I'm finishing up last minute things, stuff is all in the packing room. :)

Everything goes in on Thursday night for our Friday departure. Anything that is non wrinkle is already in, and dresses and wrinkle prone go in last minute.

  5. Not so sure.

I was standing in line for eggs at Breakfast. Guy loudly & rudely demanded to know how long 3 eggs over easy would take. Everyone standing around had a bemused look on their face. When the server put them on the plate, the guy shouted " one of those eggs is broken" The server offered to get some more, after more berating I enquired of the server " is the pharmacy open because those happy pills sure aren't working and need replacing".

Lots of smiles from the the people around (except one ) The server very professionally said nothing and didn't change facial expression. After finishing Breakfast at the back of the ship we walked through OV and I waited at the exit whilst Boss Lady was in toilet. I was then confronted by 'broken egg man' who berated me and told me to "butt out".

    Perhaps he was right ?

I do not like to see the hard working staff being abused in this way so I am afraid I will "Butt in".

I agree. It doesn't require training to deal with a rude person. It simply requires compassion.

A great answer to people like this is let them get it all out, then smile sweetly and say, "Have a wonderful day!"

  6. We were in Rome last year in the beginning of June and it was quite warm.

I do plan on taking a lightweight sweater/shawl/wrap thing that I have. It doesn't wrinkle, has sleeves and you can wrap it so it looks chic.

I live in Toronto so as long as there is no snow- I'm good in FitFlops... LOL

What has really helped my packing this time is sticking to a colour palate. Black, white, coral and khaki. Scarf has black white and coral- looks cute with the khaki jersey dress, and livens up black bottoms and a khaki and white striped tshirt., etc..

Cross body bag and shoes/ fitflops are bronzey colour.

  7. We leave for Rome next week to board the Reflection on May 18.

I'm packing FitFlops and Skechers GOwalks for touring around.

For Istanbul, I will wear mid length yoga capris (nice fabric) with a nice tshirt, and carry a pashmina in my purse fro a head cover.

For Greece, I have decided on tshirt dresses, they are a super comfy jersey fabric that flows and looks nice.

I love scarves and remember buying a few in Florence last year- I look forward to adding to the collection in Rome!

  8. I've been the person on the receiving end of a rude customer service issue.

Let me tell you- I was thankful that a 'third party' stood up for me when I was unable to.

There is nothing wrong with bringing unacceptable behaviour to someone's attention.

As a customer/passenger, I do find bad customer service unacceptable. I demand good customer service, and I also am a polite customer.

There was a night in the MDR on Equinox where my food got so messed up it was comical. Our server did EVERYTHING in his power to fix it. At the end we all had a good laugh and i ordered something completely different. He offered me exceptional service and i was polite. I also offered him the opportunity to fix the problem. Customer etiquette 101.

  9. Chastisment, as someone mentioned previously, can mean different things to different people.

On our last cruise, in the lineup for stir fry (different cruiseline), everyone in the lineup was made aware of a "confrontation" when a passenger loudly chastised the server with, "YOU don't tell me what I want, I tell YOU what I want". The server looked thoroughly embarrassed. I don't know what preceded her words, but ...

Her tone was condescending and imperious. I was taken aback and speechless, continuing my shuffle through the lineup along with everyone else. The woman appeared completely unaware of her incredible rudeness.

By the time I got to my seat I was embarrassed and ashamed by my silence. No one should treat anyone with that level of condescension and rudeness ... chastisment, if you prefer.

So I guess, when I read a post without much contextual information, I can't help thinking/remembering that there are a lot of passengers who somehow think the price of passage includes the right to chastise and belittle the staff. It doesn't. And oddly, those passengers seem completely oblivious.

    You are my hero.

Last year on equinox, an incredibly rude woman dressed down a server in ocean view about her poached egg, of all things. I was waiting for my omelet, and stared at her but was silent. She was oblivious to how condescending she was. I was shocked into silence, but to this day wish I had spoken up.

I agree that some people who are oblivious to their bad behaviour are very usually those who claim, 'they have no idea!'.

  10. Depends on the type of itinerary and tour being done.

Caribbean- casual cross body BC I like hands free. Big enough for travel wallet and a small bottle of water. Secure pockets if I'm shopping ( carry passport)

Med - leather cross body a touch bigger. I find I need things like kleenex, hand sanitizer, etc.. (nothing like being at the Acropolis washroom with no toilet paper. :)

  11. I like Sperry's. Will check it out.

I've got 7 dresses for night time and will switch them up for dinners with jewelry. I'm taking 3 sandals, and one fit flop, wearing my runners. Daytime I've picked up some cute tissue t-shirts from Joe fresh. Still working on daytime tour clothing.

  12. Ducklite!

I love your lists- thank you!

We leave May 15, and the guest room is "Vacation Central". I've started putting 'maybes' in there.

Over the weekend i will try on things and see what goes and what doesn't. I will post some pics of the tshirt dresses i bought for sightseeing- they are short sleeved and to the knee. I always have a pash in case I need one. (in Turkey for the Mosques)

Colour palate will be the next thing i cull. I'm thinking black, white, khaki and some coral/pink for colour... My fave sight seeing FitFlops are bronze, so this will work.

  13. Yes, of course you have to be comfortable or you're not going to enjoy your time. I also have the same concerns about looking like an obvious tourist. When in Italy, I tend to go for all black.

We are on the Reflection for the re-positioning cruise in April. I've just about figured out my packing as we are gone for 23 days... I think my lifesaves will be the two peplum tops I bought- one black, one cream. They mix and match well with any bottom I have. Here's my inspiration photo (only with flats of course!).

Best of luck and have fun!

    Love the style!

  14. Most nights my DH requests a veggie plate made up of the veggie sides from the meat offerings. He always gets a lovely assortment of 4-6 veggies plus a baked potato. So, if you are a meat-eater and don’t want to eat “haricot verts” every night, just check out the other veggies offered and request what you like.

Since I don’t have to plan the menu or cook it, I’m quite happy with whatever is served!

    Great idea!

  15. It's probably because we've always heard that the dinners in the MDR are plated in the kitchen as a group and asking for more of one item would result in a second entree being served. It's news to me that you can ask for more of a side, but as long as it's not inconvenient to my server, I'll give it a try.

Last year on Equinox, I asked for more asparagus. Our server brought me my regular entree, then a little side dish of extra vegetable. It wasn't extra on the same plate. Perhaps this is the way it was ordered so 2 entrees wouldn't come out?

I had also written earlier that one night I just did 2 salads and an appetizer blue cheese souffle. If Celebrity is reading this, Equinox June 1 2014 sailing, Raymond and Sadhna were amazing.
