  1. Hi there.

My question:  Are taxis readily available for transport from the cruise ship terminal in Copenhagen to the CPH airport (Clarion hotel, actually), or do I need to reserve a ride?  Our disembarkation will be on a Saturday (June 1, 2024)

I ask this, as somewhere in this brain of mine I think I heard/read that there were long lines for a taxi upon disembarkation. We are not in a rush as we don't have a plane to catch until the next day, so anticipate disembarking the ship on one of the later group numbers.

While the metro would be more economical, DH has certain mobility issues so a taxi or car would be best or just booking the cruise ship's airport transfers.

Thank you so much for your assistance!

    Best Regards,

    Melissa

Thanks, that does help. I know what you mean about those two outlets being crowded together, effectively rendering one unusable unless one has skinny male plugs. We bring at least one extension cord for that purpose, and use that in one of those "one-to-many-plug-extenders" <below> for another plug in the cabin, like the ones where the TVs used to be on previous mini-suite cabins.

    image.png.60ed71351167f3e40f1acaa08b33c21f.png

However, you lost me where you said "Just be aware the side of the bed not near the desk does not have any plugs at all." I think you mean that that side of the bed is far away from any plug, right? Not that the other side of the bed had a plug very near? When when wife use a CPAP machine she slept on the side of the bed nearest the TV, so its cord was long enough to use that outlet.

I know there is a "European" plug often underneath the bed that many USA citizens here use with a converter, but we have never needed to use that. Generally all we need to charge are a phone (at the end of the cruise), tablet or laptop, and maybe a camera. The USB powered clock is a resent addition. So our needs are very minor, especially since she no longer uses the CPAP machine.

I am so sorry for the confusion, Paper.  I hope this clarifies.  This is in reference to the side of the bed which is furthest from the desk and its lovely outlets  (in our case, the one closest to the wall and bathroom). There is no plug visible above this side's night stand nor visible on the wall next to this side's night stand. We were unable to move the nightstand away from the wall to see how the lamp was plugged in. I have a Dexcom6 continuous glucose monitor which I like to have by my bedside at night. I just had to make sure my phone was charged sufficiently to do so.  Keeping it plugged it would have been better but we were able to pivot.

  3. Hi there.  We are just off the Ruby Princess on Sunday, February 5th.

As noted above, there are no USB ports in the cabin.  We were in a mini suite.  There were two plugs on the wall behind the desk, and they were crowded side-by-side plugs...meaning they cannot accommodate two large plugs next to each other. Also, There is a plug each on the top shelf of the cabinets where the TVs used to be.

DH brings a non-surge-protector "squid" plug thing...sorry, don't know the official name, and was able to plug it in on one of the crowded side-by-side plugs.

Just be aware the side of the bed not near the desk does not have any plugs at all. So if whomever is on that side of the bed is used to having their phone plugged in by them, they will have to make alternate arrangements.

    Hope this helps!

  4. Just off the Ruby Princess this past Sunday (Feb 5th).

    7-night cruise.

Club Class Dining, not that that makes any difference.

DH and I both wore shorts first night and 7th night

DH and I wore long pants both formal nights (2nd and 6th)

Remaining nights, DH wore shorts and I wore capris or blue jeans.

Others in the dining room wearing shorts or blue jeans.  We saw no one turned away, even on formal nights.

  5. First Princess cruise coming up since The Stop.  Looking forward to it. We've always enjoyed the P/E/S lounge, and normally skipped Main Dining based on what was served in the lounge.

Do they still provide a Hors d'oeuvres menu in our cabins?  Does anyone know what the menu is for a typical 7 day cruise?

    Many thanks!

    Melissa

There are so many unknowns, of course, life is full of them! But, sometimes we have to avoid some of these known unknowns!

I owe you royalties!  I love how you said this..."we have to avoid some of these known unknowns"

We chose this morning to cancel another cruise line's transatlantic cruise which was set to sail in mid-April,  with an authorized disembarkation at Le Havre.  We had plans to spend a few more days in Normandy, and another 7 days in Paris.  When northern Italy was compromised, it caused us to pause.

We chose, especially after 9/11, not to let fear rule our lives. However, with my having a compromised immune system due to recent events last year,  we had to pause and make a decision.  Breaks my heart to cancel as this cruise as we had some bucket list items too.  We had Paris on that list too! Stress over my compromised situation and looking over my shoulder afraid of a cough...not my idea of a bucket list trip.

So, we decided we didn't want to risk it, and decided "to avoid some of these known unknowns"

It was a tough decision and know it will be tough for those contemplating it in the near future. Whatever decision you make, it will be the best decision.  Ours was the best one for us.

Bob!  Hugs to Holli!  So good to see you again.  I was wondering when you would hit Holli's Effy store. 😁

I am sorry to hear about Misha.  I am also sorry to hear about your brother-in-law Paul....we recall meeting him at a Sabatini's breakfast on the Iceland cruise.  But, Bailey!  Whew...you're brave!  We adopt mid-to-senior basset hounds now, as we just can't seem to keep up with puppies any more!   Also, congratulations on your upcoming retirement. It is a beautiful thing...Jeff and I retired last year and promptly went to Greenland on the CB (and our first medallion cruise, and, yes, amazingly fast internet).

Not on a Princess ship until the middle of next year...back to Iceland/Norway.  In fact, you were on my mind the other day...dug up JJ's information that you kindly sent and will be getting in touch with him again. This year, though, we're off on a TA on RCI in a couple months and have some unfinished tourist things in Normandy to check off.

Love that you're doing another "Live from..." and hoping your leg feels better soon.

  9. I agree.  It isn’t the fact that this was on the CB. It was the passengers. That was the point I was trying to make in my earlier post.

We have sailed on the CB six times in the past 7 years and never ever have sensed the arrogance of this passenger mix until now on this cruise.

We are elite, and I’m embarrassed for us.

To berate the ice cream staff because of air bubbles because you are special. Geez.

  10. We are currently on the CB, and love this ship. I am sorry, Hank, you are not happy with her. I’m a fan of yours as many, many of your posts have aided and helped me on prior cruises and excursions.

    My thoughts about this cruise:

    - Crew has been phenomenal. Everyone ready with a smile and a hello.

    - Very very lucky with the weather. Had read on our roll call that we would be lucky to make one of the three Greenland ports.

Made all 3 of them with crisp clear weather. All three Canadian ports with crisp clear weather as well.

    - with regard to the tendering, As elite, we along with other Elite passengers met in a dining room and issued numbered tender tickets, while others were to secure their numbered tickets in the atrium on 7. It appeared (my observation), they loaded Elites first then any remaining to other passengers. We were on the first tender on the two Greenland ports they tendered. Yes, I love my sleep but this is the first and probably only time I will get to Greenland, so I got up and made sure we were on the first few tenders, with the first as it happened for the two ports. Never had a problem. I cannot speak for anyone that didn’t get off the ship early.

    -  Nuuk is a docking port, not a tender port.

    - we had independent shore excursions in Qarqortoq (pronounce that as Kwa-Core-Tok) and Nanortalik. Qaqortoq was via Blue Ice Explorer, and Nanortalik was with “south Greenland boat charter 44” booked through Guide to Greenland. Both were ice fjords boat touring, and I have no words other than do it.

    Other observations:

    - Melt downs by the “Me-me Elite” that I saw were very similar to what was mentioned earlier.

    - I have a couple faces seared into my memory because of their “Me-me ness.”

You offended me when you made a few nasty comments about my husband who is a man of size, under your breath, not realizing he belonged to me and I heard you. I hope to see you two again. 😁

I will say Princess could have done better with Nuuk. The town center was 1km from the dock, up a gradual hill. Princess had a land shuttle for the “fabulous” price of $19.95 pp. Princess....you should have provided that for free, and you know it. Look at the demographics of this cruise. You knew most of these people couldn’t make that walk, so you decided to make a buck. Last I heard from guest services ( I asked) was 700+ bought the shuttle tickets. Do the math, they made a killing.

The shuttle should  have been for free! As this was a docking port, it was likely the only way certain passengers were going to touch Greenland as the other two were tenders.

  11. Joe and Pat,

So glad to see you back with us and still cruising!

Hope to see you sometime soon. Jeff and I are noob-ing it on an Royal Caribbean TA in October/November this year. Will be back on the CB in August 2019 for a Canada cruise, which includes Greenland. Hoping the ship will be able to make those ports!

Again, good to see you back.

Mic - Hugs to you and Rosie!

Abby - Hugs to you and Glenn!

  12. I concur with the previous posters about going to the P/E/S lounge to walk off, if you're eligible for that lounge.

On every cruise when we've been eligible to wait in that lounge, and when we walked off, we had been led off the ship first, prior to the other walk-off groups. It didn't matter what our disembark ticket said (i.e. Walk Off Group B)....we were still led off the ship prior to Walk Off Group A.

As mentioned, the lounge that early is not packed, and the terminal is empty. First through customs....

  13. We enjoy going to the P/E/S lounge, primarily to meet up with old friends and make new ones.

Admittedly, DH and I don't order the specials...rather regular drinks on the menu. And, I'm all over the steak tartare and herbed goat cheese. Usually, these constitute dinner on the evenings offered! And, have been offered on all the Princess cruises we've been on since eligible for the P/E/S lounge.

  14. On our British Isles cruise, which embarked in Southampton, our passports (U.S. citizens) were collected when we checked in at the terminal. We did get a receipt.

We were told our steward would return our passports to us a couple days before the cruise ended. However, we were disembarking in Le Havre, France (with a Princess approved route deviation) along with a number of fellow cruises, and via a letter to our cabin, we were to collect our passports on the Le Havre port day from a pre-determined location, which happened to be the Crown Grill.

    It really was easy-peasy!

    Hope this helps!

  15. Sorry for the delay in replying. I've been away for a few days.

Glad the info for Queensferry was helpful.

Some suggestions for restaurants close by include:

    Angels with Bagpipes

Michael Neaves Kitchen and Whisky bar

    Maison Bleue

    Whiski Rooms

They are all a short walk to the Castle and you could check them out on TripAdvisor.

I've never been to The Wychery but I know it appeals to tourists. if I wanted fine dining in that area, I would prefer to go to Castle Terrace.

George Mellis is probably the cheesemonger you've heard about. There is a branch on Victoria Street, just off the Royal Mile.

The taxis mentioned on our website on this page tend to be smaller outfits.

    http://www.cruiseforth.com/content/getting-around-rosyth/

Of the first three mentioned we regularly use Tony's for transport into Edinburgh and he is very fair. He is one of the drivers who holds a Welcome Host badge. We personally have also used Go Ra's, Premier and A1TCH but I have to say they all have standards to maintain or they would lose their operator's licence.

    Hope that helps.

Tartan - thank you so very much for all this information! You are so wonderful, sharing your knowledge and time in helping me with my inquiries.

We've made reservations at a hotel right off the Royal Mile for the night of Day 1....we really like the idea of being right there despite having the cruise ship there too. Just another adventure.

I've made notes of the restaurants that you mentioned and I'll check the cruiseforth website on the taxi services and make those reservations accordingly.

Thanks again for all your help!

There will be lots of private hires at the port of Rosyth as an alternative and I can give you a couple of phone numbers for people I use if you're interested. They're just much smaller businesses and you could just pick one up on the day without any problem. you could easily arrange for them to pick you up the following day.

What kind of food do you want for your pre-tattoo meal. There are so many options in the area from fine dining such as the Wychery etc to pubs to local restaurants serving food from all over the world.

Hotels get very expensive during the Festival so I would strongly advise booking ASAP. If you use one of the booking sites just look for hotels in the Old Town if you want to be close to the Castle. However I love Edinburgh at night and as it's such a compact city it would be easy to walk to any hotel in the New Town as well. There are the usual chains as well - Edinburgh has a huge number of hotels.

For general info about the area, have a look at the website our volunteer group has set up. www.cruiseforth.com

Edinburgh changes character during August as there are so many visitors so it will be VERY VERY busy when you are there so I would suggest you allow longer than you think to visit the sights and generally get around

    Tartan,

Thank you! I would be very interested in the private hires you mentioned. I wasn't sure it would be easy/feasible to wait until Day 1 to secure transportation for Day 2. Post-tattoo transportation will be a moot point if we do the hotel thing, but we do need to get to back to the Port on Day 2.

I'm a planner, so like to make inquiries and book as early as possible and not have to worry about things.

I've delegated the hotel reservation to my husband and he is on it to secure asap. And am ready as a Friend of the Tattoo to secure tickets when they open that up.

Regarding food preferences, I can't do curry dishes nor seafood (not allergies, but do not care for it). Pub food or a couple other locals to choose from would be great! If we choose fine dining, the Witchery works (I love love love steak tartare and cheese). I know there are so many options and could get overloaded, but a selection of a few restaurants would be great to start inquiries with.

I hear of a cheese shop in Edinburgh...well if I could stay there all day, I would love that! :o

Thank you, Tartan, you've been so kind and generous with your insight and time in helping those of us visiting. You were very helpful in getting Jeff and I from Queensferry, up the stairs to the train and onto Waverly for our first visit to Edinburgh back a couple years ago in May.

    Have a great day!

    Melissa

  17. Thank you everyone for your guidance.

We will be docked at Rosyth (Pacific Princess - 900am day 1) and overnighting (departing 600pm day 2).

Didn't even occur to us to think about getting a hotel for the night!

That is appealing as we want to do more of Edinburgh (2nd visit) during the Day 1, dinner, Tattoo and back to Edinburgh on Day 2. It is appealing to have a place to crash before dinner and already be in the city centre on Day 2.

Would love to learn of more pre-Tattoo dinner options. Have the Witchery and the Doric pub/restaurant on the list.

Tartan - thank you for the two private hire companies for transport back to the ship. I'll check in with them. If you have any others, I'll check them too!

    Thank you again, all

    Melissa

  18. Hi there. I thought I might mention if the cruise you're on stops in France (i.e. Le Havre) as its last port of call, it might be worthwhile to disembark there. You will miss one night on the cruise, but we found it worth it when we did this on our British Isles cruise.

You have to have permission from the cruise line to do so and well in advance. It is a pretty common thing to do as a number of cruisers want to spend post cruise days in Paris.

    Good luck planning!

    Melissa
