  1. We just disembarked the Westerdam. Before leaving port in Seattle we heard them call the announcement of Bright Star, Bright Star, Bright Star. We were told a poor woman had passed away once reaching her cabin. We saw the medics come aboard with the stretcher and take her off. Not sure this is what Bright Star means but that is what we were told.

  2. Not sure exactly what you mean by "My airline name does not include my first name". There has to be some first name on the airline reservation.

The key is that the name on the airline reservation has to match an acceptable form of ID...your passport for an international flight, or your passport, drivers license or some other official ID for a domestic flight.

Airline ticket and driver's license have middle and last name. Cruise documents and passport have first, middle and last names. For the cruise portion I will not be using my DL for ID, just my passport. For airline I will use my DL that matches my airline tickets. I think I just answered my own question. :o Cruise documents match my passport which is what I'll be using for form of ID so I'm good. Thanks!

  3. Question along those same lines. My passport and cruise documents match. My airline was booked independently of my cruise. My airline name does not include my first name. Since my airline reservation is not tied to my cruise reservation there should be no issue, correct?

  4. I have no idea why I received a "block" from posting to my Roll Call but I have. My last post (Saturday, I believe) was thanking someone for reminding me how wonderful and powerful the song "Happy" is as it is my 3-yr old grandson's favorite song. My grandson has cancer. Is cancer a subject that is taboo in these forums? If so, then perhaps I really don't belong here. I emailed CC but have not received a response yet as to why this has happened. As much as I have enjoyed reading all of your helpful posts, right now I am not feeling much love for Cruise Critic. I'm sure this will get deleted as well but I feel better for having written it. Perhaps only people who have children with no disabilities get to post. CC you say what in response?

  5. Hey guys,

My boyfriend and I are planning on taking our 3rd RC cruise sometime in 2016 (my boyfriend thinks RC is the best and won't do anything else). We wanted to do Anthem of the Seas because we're in the NY/NJ area but those prices are way out of our price range so we're most likely going to do an older ship.

We've done a balcony room on the last 2 cruises but we've always wanted to do a suite. I saw youtube videos of the owner's suite on the Freedom & Liberty and I think I'm in love.(Personally, I don't think the JS is that much bigger to justify paying the extra cost over a balcony) Just went to the RC website and the price of the owner's suite on Freedom in April 2016 is about $4200. Not a lot of money for what you get but my boyfriend and I are regular everyday people. I have tons of student debt and my job requires me to live in NYC which is growing more expensive every day :(. I work very hard so when I go on vacation, which is rare, I want to have a good time.

For those CCers who have done a suite on RC, (1) do you think it was worth it, (2) how were you able to afford it and (3) are the prices cheaper during certain seasons/months?

We had a suite on an Alaskan cruise on Princess and would not pay that kind of money again.

  6. We will be in Sitka on July 14th for the full day. Can anyone recommend a restaurant in Sitka for a nice lunch? Somewhere with local seafood would be perfect. Thank you.

We will be in Sitka the 16th! If you get a good lead on a restaurant please post. So far it's not looking good.

  7. Clothing optional sunning. I remember on the Jade two summers ago, midday when all the chairs were taken, people would walk up the steps to that deck and quickly turn around and tell their companions to not come up. Then, they'd hurry back down. I never went up to see, A. what types of people were up there, and B. how clothing optional it was. I could only guess from the reactions of the people trying to get back down those stairs as quickly as they could!

They had one on a Carnival cruise I went on. The creepy part about it is not the sunbathers but the men who go up to stare at them and are so obvious about it. They don't even pull up a chair they just stand there. It's really disgusting.
