  1. Thanks for all you advice and comments. The guy rang back and he did try for another cabin but as it is sold out completely the staff have said they will unfix the beds to make it a queen, something they don't normally do as the cabin is slightly narrower than the others. I am pleased with the response and the cabin is in JD grade. He has given this to me in writing too and it should be made up by the time we arrive.

I would like the luxury of Select however being a student at university I feel it is too much for me to pay, Early Saver works out nicely for us. As long as we have a Queen bed which we have been expecting from the start. I just can't imagine this being anything other than a mistake from P&O as if you order a twin room and were given a queen bed people would not be happy.

Agains thanks for all your nice comments. We have been looking forward to this cruise since October and it is finally nearly here!!

  2. Oh through P&O Direct. The Customer Service Executive was actually a lot more understanding than the first rep who was very rude while I remained polite but annoyed. The rep assured me that when I arrived I could move them together then, I personally think this isn't true, as I've seen some pictures of the twin cabins and I think it is fixed for a reason. But yeah the Exec is contacting the head of house keeping direct.

  3. As I said before, we always have an inside cabin and I have never known a ship in the fleet to have fixed twin beds, it has always been possible to have them put together, unless someone can correct me?

That would be great if you are correct. The agent said he was going to ask Ventura directly.

The circle next to P201 means Fixed Twin beds.

  4. I don't see an issue with this at all? I don't want to bore other users by saying 'oh yes we booked KA and got two upgrades'. No one likes a boaster. I also got those upgrades as I was let down twice by P&O and our cruise was mis-sold. It seems we can't fix them together, as they are fixed, I believe that is maybe why the guy is taking longer to call me back.

  5. Hi thank you all for your speedy replies. Yes it is the JD grade which we booked, it is just unfortunate that we booked very early and specified our cabin type. I know Select are main priority but thought Early Saver was next and then Saver.

I will take all your advice and tips onboard. I'm not really selling this cruising thing to my girlfriend! It's her first cruise and it is for our anniversary and we have had no end of problems with P&O.

The guy on the phone said that our particular cabin is just a bit narrower than the others with a Twin fixed bed arrangement, they suggested unfixing the beds when we arrive, we just feel fobbed off and there will be a join between the mattresses! We're both 21 and going for our anniversary! I asked about a goodwill gesture and they said no. He was very rude. His manager was nicer and calling me back tomorrow.

    Thanks again.

    Nick

  6. Hi all.

Received cabin allocation today for Ventura in a few weeks. We requested Queen as it states on all our documents, however we have been given a fixed Twin room. We are a couple, all the other cabins on the cruise up from our grade are fully sold out?! What can we do? Do we have a leg to stand on, at the moment the customer services aren't being very understanding. We booked early saver last October and we sale September 10th. Very disappointed. We are expecting a call back tomorrow.

  7. Mr Grumpy, you still smarting about the fact that King Richard is going to be buried in Leicester and not York? :D

As someone who was grounded in Turin by the last eruption in 2010, and spent three days, and nearly £1,000, trying to get home, most of which we didn't get back, it pays to be a bit cautious over a potential new threat, so less of the cynicism if you please.

  8. Thank you.

This confuses me though as we went to Venice last year near to the cruise terminal and there is a large lagoon as it is off the mainland! So P&O provide full transport to getting you to the ship?

  9. Hi all.

In Venice how are we expected to get to the cruise terminal, we're on charter flights, do we need to pay for a water bus / taxi?

Also we haven't been allocated a cabin yet but our luggage labels say deck G. This is a staff deck I think! Booked early saver, but due to a number of failures we have been upgraded to JD grade at least.

    Thanks for your time.

Anyone else on this cruise? Our role call is very quiet!

  10. It's policy with most airlines, it just depends who you get at the desk.

it's such a petty and bizarre policy. What the difference is between 2 20kg cases and a 15kg case and a 25kg case (25kg is the heaviest allowed) I will never know. I can only assume it's a means to raise more money.

What about the poor workers back when on his shift he has a 25KG case to lift, would you want to carry that?

  11. Hello,

My girlfriend and I are both 21 and are going from Venice to Genoa in September on Ventura (N419a).

We are perfectly happy socialising with the older generations, however I am just wondering if there will be at least some couples/individuals our own age.

My question is when you went on your fly cruise what was the mix?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

  12. Hi Nick, I am doing the fly cruise on Ventura from 14th - 28th May. I have been able to view and book my excursions already so if you want to know any prices just let me know. We have arranged to do 1) Rome on our own £42 each 2) Florence/Pisa on our own £46 each 3) Wines and Ancient Villas of Vesuvius for when we are in Naples £46 each.

We have chosen to travel on P&O transport to Rome/Florence/Pisa and then will look around on our own. That way we will not be worrying about getting back to the ship before it sails and being left behind!

    Hi Maisie.

Thanks for your reply. This will be helpful for people who haven't booked yet. This is an added cost that people may overlook at the time of booking.

  13. Try this site for Venice great info for cruisers

    http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/venice-cruises.htm

We are doing this trip in reverse the week before- done Venice and Rome before. Staying 2 days pre-cruise in Genoa hoping to get to Portofino

Great. We went on holiday to Venice last summer & to make our holiday cheaper this time we will not be looking into excursions at the ports close to beaches or on the arrival/departure day (Venice/Genoa).
