  1. Don’t forget you can always bring soda from the buffet and put it in your mini frig if you’re in the veranda rooms. We stay in the veranda rooms and buy the ss . We can order a drink through room service at night or bring it from the bar. Honestly, we never use to eat the chips or candy so we’re not missing that.

  2. Not a liquor question but my husband was wondering what kind of beer they have on tap. We have the Silver Spirits package for our West Indies Explorer cruise next week.

I figure since the Sky and the Sea have been in the same neighborhood [emoji12] might be similar.

The only beer that I liked on tap was a Norwegian dark ale. But I saw people ordering light beers too

  3. We are booked leaving June 18 on the Trade Routes of the Middle Ages. We too booked a guarantee cabin. We booked a V2. We have no idea if we will be upgraded, but we will be happy with this cabin. FYI, this will be our first Viking cruise so we are very excited.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t upgraded but I like our v2 cabin. As soon as you get on board go straight to the world cafe reservation desk to make your dinner reservations at the speciality restaurants

  4. How does the ship indicate that you have the silver package? I really do not want to wear a wrist band. While I do like wine, I have trouble with the tannins and need a well rounded red. I surprisingly can tolerate a cosmo or a margarita. Are they included in the silver package?

    Thank you for your comments.

Any drink under 15, then you get discount over 25. Lol, cosmo and margarita are included. When you first get on board, you show room card. But they learn very quickly who has the package

  5. Huh? We just finished a cruise and we not only had to present our ID's to get onto the ship (and off too, for that matter) but we went through additional security where we had to put purses, bags, coats, etc on a belt ... just like the airport, but we could keep our belts and shoes on!

They see our photo in the system so when they see your card, they probably already know you

  6. Greetings, we missed the sign-up for Meet & Mingle on the Caribbean Cruise on The Sun embarking Monday Feb 5. I also can’t seem to relocate our Roll Call for this cruise. If anyone on the roll call with access to sending us an invite could email me, I’d be so appreciative. Name is Mary Kenny Email: lajolla44atgmail. Thanks so much.

Do you mean the Viking Sea out of Puerto Rico . That’s our cruise. I’ll let you know on Monday. My email is fpacifico@aol.com

  7. Your letter is unreasonable in the extreme.

As a future Viking passenger , I am pleased that Viking has adopted "the safety of our passengers is paramount" approach that the vast majority of cruiselines follow.

I will be amazed if many people share the opinions you have expressed in your letter .

    Rob

I totally agree with you,on my cruise next week, Venezuela was cancelled and st. Kitts put in the itinerary, not thrilled with the change but appreciate Viking for looking out for their guests.

  8. Hope you have a good time. But a Caribbean cruise is quite different than a 3 week cruise to the Amazon, having to get yellow fever, visa, possible anti malaria pills and scoping out stops on the Amazon which Viking obviously did very poorly.

The Caribbean is well travelled for many years and any hiccups that may occur will most probably be very different than those we experienced on this trip. The passengers on this cruise, including me and the others on this thread. Paid a lot and expected a lot based on the hype of the Viking sales people and what their optional, expensive excursions promised. And their itinerary.

"Done people are never happy with anything" should be a statement for those who have been there and done that and not a judgment from those who haven't.

Our first Viking ocean in the Baltic we could not find fault with anything. The second in the Med was tiring but we knew it would be and it was done well. The Amazon was not done well.

But we are giving them another chance and put down our final payment on the Nile trip. Viking is experienced in this route and it's a new ship, however we have very high hopes this one will be a winner.

All reviews should be taken with a grain of salt. It doesn’t mean that your criticism aren’t legitimate. And some people do complain about everything, I’ve seen it on my excursions. My point is that only some choose to post their reviews of the cruise on this site, but the majority of people don’t. So like I said, take the reviews with a grain of salt

  9. I would just add that most nights there is a 45 minute show at around 9.15 in the main theatre. It was repeated earlier on our recent trip due to popularity. This is a mix of on board entertainers, local acts and entertainers flown out just to do two shows each. We were very happy with the shows but as I mentioned before we were ready for bed after such early starts and very full days!!

You have the night club where there is live entertainment and people dance. That goes to about 12 maybe later.

  10. I was quite excited when I saw that reviews had been published for this cruise as we have booked the same cruise for 2018. I as continued to read, my heart sank. This cruise was to be a very special treat for us to celebrate our retirement and not inexpensive especially as we will be travelling from Australia. I cant cancel now either as I would lose our $1000 deposit along with $1500 per person. I chose this cruise for the Amazon component, but don't think we will see much with only 3 ports of call. The colourful toucan in the advertisement is what attracted me to look further at this cruise. Doesn't sound like cruisers saw much wildlife at all. I will contact Viking with my concerns.

I’ve been to Alaska and saw less mature than on my beach in New York city’s rockaway community. Some people I know saw tremendous number of species. It’s a matter of luck. You may go and see one toucan after another . The cruise line has no control over the animals that live each country.

  11. I heard back from Viking cruises today with this message

" Thank you for your email that has been forwarded to me from our USA office.

I regret to hear you have read bad reviews regarding your upcoming “From the Caribbean to the Amazon” cruise.

As I am out of the country at the moment greeting our wonderful World Cruise ship, Viking Sun into New Zealand, I have forwarded your concerns to our Australian reservations team and they will respond to you shortly.

Thank you for your patience and please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of further assistance." ( from customers relations)

I will share the response with you all.

I was on the Star in June and I can tell you that there was plenty of food. In fact you are over fed on the cruise. The ships will buy fresh fish from locals and its delicious when prepared. Most of the Caribbean is up and running, welcoming more tourists everyday. Take reviews with a grain of salt. Done people are never happy with anything. I can’t wait to start our cruise in the Caribbean this coming Sunday. So happy travels

  12. In that video it looks like people have claimed most of the chairs with their towels, but are not by them or in the water. Is this an issue usually? Easy to find open chairs?

    Plenty of lounges and chairs.

  13. Good to see you here Fpacifico! Obviously we’re all eagerly anticipating our vacation. I had to chuckle with the OP as well, it seems that’s all I’m thinking about, trying not to talk about it too much at work - I’m sure those staying in the Chicago winter don’t want to hear about it. We also had the same concern with the flight. First time ever we didn’t go the day before, because the ship overnights in PR before leaving. Can you share that travel emergency number? Calling for “chance of snow “ that Monday, but who knows in Chicago.

tel:1 877 523 0576, hope you have good flying weather, I promise not to drink all the pina coladas up before you get there

  14. I had seen the pictures and looked forward with much anticipation but was underwhelmed. I don't think mine was made when ordered and I kind of felt like Peggy Lee in "Is That All There Is". I'm going to give it a second shot in April.

I have to admit that ours was delicious but we behaved ourselves and had it once but it was made fresh

  15. I think you must have been in DV grade cabin or above rooty. Deec was referring to V grade where there is no restocking but can be good value as it is otherwise very much like DV. The other main difference between V and DV is no advance booking on excursions or dining which may be an issue for some.

You can book excursions in advance, but not dinner reservations. If you have the silver spirit beverage package then you do get liquor and soda restocked. No coffee machine or binoculars. But you can have room service bring coffee in am.
