It's a typical simple 'Aran' knit (though, unfortunately, it's not a hand-knit and is handwash only 😏).  I bought it in Ireland.

Here's a real Aran sweater with a more complex pattern (which I hand-knit - with 100% wool - probably about 30 years ago and can throw in the washing machine, no problem.  It was too bulky to bring and a cardigan is more versatile, which is why I bought it).

These would be knit for fishermen, especially on the west coast of Ireland for the Atlantic seas, and the wool would be waxed to make them water-resistant and warmer to wear.  Different families would have their own particular 'stitch' (such as the diamond panel in this one) which would identify them.

Another beautiful sweater and the history to match.  You are sooooo informative and kind to take the time to explain it all.  Thank you very much.

We have never sailed MSC, primarily Princess, and would love to know what your generally opinion of MSC.

    Thanks again.

I brought a really warm sweater for our Canada leg of the cruise and I've ended up wearing it more in the Caribbean lol.  The air-conditioning is up too high for me in the restaurant.  I only needed a t-shirt on the NA part of the cruise 🙄

People were saying how hot it is on the pool deck today ... I thought it was lovely  😁

I love your sweater.  What kind is it and where did you acquire it?

  3. For cruisers looking to attend Mass or visit a local Roman Catholic Church, please visit/use the following websites and contact information.  I'm told the services are free, but I'm sure they would appreciate a donation to help with expenses.

Ketchikan, AK      https://holynamektn.com/location  Service available May 1st - September 15, Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon.  You can find a "contact us" link at the   website.

Juneau, AK          http://juneaucathedral.org/visitors/cathedral-transportation/  A very lovely lady named Patty Morgan will be happy to hear from you and arrange pickup.  If you   email her,  at abpattyk@gmail.com she will get right back to you.  She says you might also phone her at 907-957-2000.   Again, I'm told the services are free, but  I'm sure they would appreciate a donation to help with expenses.

    How awesome are these folks!

Hope this helps other cruisers.  It sure helped me.

  4. I posted this on my Roll Call, but thought I might receive more information, as well.

Being a woman of a certain age, I use a small (8") fan after showering and while drying my hair.  When I don't use a fan my hair just won't dry completely and it's difficult to finish my makeup with a dewy face.

Does anyone know if I can bring a portable fan on-board in my carry-on luggage?   Appreciate the advise.

Can not find my roll call either🤔

I found both of mine by following:  Princess Roll Calls, Ruby Princess, and then manually searching for the dates.  You are correct, the Search function did not work.  I then saved the page in my Bookmarks and it now works fine.

  6. We always start walking from the terminal toward the exit gates and away from the crowds.

That's great advice! Last time we called for Uber upon disembarkation there were two identical Black Towncars. Our driver started to pickup the wrong group. Once I showed them the app we got the cars sorted out. We unfortunately were waiting at the end of the pick-up point along with the other group.

  7. Yes you can make dinner reservations on the Dine line on the ship. We always do the early traditional dining, it works well for us. This cruise we ate at the Da Vinci dining room at 5:15. The Michelangelo Dining room is anytime dining 4:30 to 8:30 and the Da Vinci dining room was from 7:30 – 9:30. We found the food was good, at least I enjoyed it. On Victoria Day dinner we had dinner at 4:30 to accommodate to arrival in Victoria at 7pm, it was busy.

We ate one night at the Crown Grill. It wasn’t the best meal I’ve ever had, not worth the $29.00 cover charge.

The theater would fill up pretty fast, we went to all the shows and got there about 25 – 30 minutes before the show started. We try to sit on the right side of the theater about half way down.

Oh my! That is sad news about the Crown Grill. We will be embarking 10/27 on the Ruby for 14 days and were looking forward to eating in the Crown Grill three or four times during the cruise. Now I'm not so sure.

It is our first cruise on the Ruby and we are already disappointed that the ship does not have Alfredo's as a dining choice. Do you think the Crown Grill has become poor on just this ship or company wide?

  8. I know, "Open the door", given that we do have a balcony cabin. That, however, does not create enough air circulation. This is especially true after showering and when I'm am using hot styling implements (ie hair dryer, curling iron, hot rollers). I still use a hormone replacement, so that's not it either. I just need air movement.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a travel fan? One that moves a lot of air and is air travel friendly?

Would Princess have a fan to loan? If so, how do I procure one?

Thanks so much for your help.

  9. I was on the Aug 1 Baltic Caribbean Princess cruise and am working on a longer review. My short version is that while I did have some problems (most notably a bad cabin location), I really did enjoy the cruise far more than I expected to. As to the common concerns I've read in reviews of this ship:

    • The ship looks "shabby" or "tired": The ship didn't look shiny to me, but it didn't look shabby or tired either. I thought it was in pretty good condition. I couldn't point to anything really worn out about it.
    • Sewage smells: I never found any.
    • Toilets not working: The toilet in our cabin stopped working once. We called guest services, and about 15 minutes later there was a flushing sound from the bathroom. Problem solved. The toilets are vacuum toilets (like on an airplane), and if somebody in a room near you puts something down it that they shouldn't they will block it for themselves and everybody around them. I don't see this as a problem with the ship.
    • Great food or bad food: The food in the buffet was mediocre Las Vegas buffet food. It wasn't the fantastic food that everybody talks about when on a cruise, but it also wasn't bad, and I could always find something I liked. The food in the main dining room was a step up from the buffet. I don't think there is any danger of them getting a Michelin star, but honestly it was pretty good. I didn't think the specialty restaurants were worth the up charge.
    • Price of the drinks: this was probably the biggest surprise to me. They were very reasonably priced (for a captive audience). They were about the same price as any bar downtown. I understand that drinks on other cruise lines are considerably higher.
    • Laundry not working: One of the dryers in the mini-laundromat on our floor was not working (somebody jammed the coin mechanism). The rest of the machines were fine.

I have my opinions about a number of other things mostly related to how Princess operates, but I think the ship is fine.

DrMark, can you tell me if the Caribbean Princess self-service laundry machines use quarters or ship tokens that need to be purchased at Customer Service?

We sail on her this October for 14 days and will want to make use of the facility.

Thank you for any information you might have.

  10. The responses from the reviews will be copied to a spreadsheet located at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1iJDFCtotsFNUvSNFzZ3LXomW95WX7R0svO7JhGRBvpo/edit?usp=sharing. You will be able to filter the data to view it many different ways.

Sorry, but when I open the link the only thing I see is a copy of the initial post describing what the spreadsheet will be. There is no cabin information. Am I doing something wrong?

  11. No Worries is no longer in that location. The Wyndam has put one of it's own restaurants in that location. No Worries is now in town right across the street from the Cabo Wabo.

Oh, that's too bad. Was planning on going by next week when our cruise overnight's there. Don't really want to venture in to town, except to taxi to Medano Beach Club for the day.

    What's the Wyndam restaurant like?

  12. I totally agree! Love that dress!

I just ordered this dress yesterday, even though we don't cruise until next September. I wanted to order it before they sell out of my size, as they often do on Igigi.com. Check their sale dept. too, they have some gowns marked down. http://www.igigi.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/694x901/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/e/s/estrella-front1-1.jpg

I got one of their little bolero things to go with it. I can wear it with my other black cocktail dress I am taking too. Now just to find some striking jewellry. I can't believe I have my dresses already. I agonized for months last cruise. I am tall, so it is hard finding gowns that are long enough.

    Wow!! Love your dress.
