  1. We stayed in chateau Cervantes,

Just a couple of streets up from the port area in old San Juan.

It is a small boutique style hotel. Really lovely rooms, not huge unless you get the master suite on the top floor. Well worth it in my opinion.

  2. I think my opinion is similar to yours on this. I didn't find the steakhouse to be worth the upcharge. It was a nice experience but not notable. I'll happily stay in the mdr.

Chef's table on the other hand was superb and I'd happily pay the premium for that.

I have a cruise booked 8 months away and the chef's table is already full with a wait list. So they must be doing something right.

  3. My favourite deck is 9, because it had my cabin on. It was the 6k grand scenic ocean view. I've never spent that much time inside a cabin before but sunset/sunrise or stargazing was just amazing. We had 9200 and it has floor to ceiling windows all around one entire side. It's also around twice the floor space of a regular ocean view with very little added cost.

Loved itinerary and the ship. Best cruise ever!

  4. If you go royal then definitely go oasis class!

We were surprised how much we loved the Harmony.

In fact I just booked a balcony on oasis on a deal that was less than an inside on carnival for the same week.

All things are comparable but subjective. Just go book with whoever has the best deal for you and don't look back!

  5. Great price, but the cheapest price I can see is £581 for an interior room on 14th Jan or £625 for the same cabin on 7th Jan. How did you get that price?

    ;)

I have no idea! On the listed promotions on my paperwork it says 30% discount, oasis special and on board spend. We're going on the 21st Jan.

I thought it might be a glitch and they accidentally put the prices in the wrong place. But I've booked, paid and have confirmation.

  6. This is for UK cruisers, I had a look and don't see anything about it here.

I've just booked a 7 night on the oasis next January in an ocean view balcony deck 7 for just £430pp. This is when not logged in and without the balcony discount.

I was shocked, the balcony price was £300 less than the interior. There was no other explanation other than 'oasis special'

I won't complain though, between the low price, a discount certificate (from harmony pre inaugural last year) and tesco points...... looks like I'm paying £300 plus gratuities for two people on a 7 night cruise in a balcony! !

  7. The YVE Hotel Downtown Miami was highly recommended and they offer transfers to the Port. Close to Bayside Shopping Mall: https://www.destinationhotels.com/yve-miami?utm_source=google-knowledge-graph&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=my_business_page

Sorry, but the YVE is the worst hotel we've ever been to in Miami.

The rooms are tiny and the service is awful. The elevators will only hold like two people with luggage.

I'd go for the intercontinental or a cheap option would be the holiday Inn.

  8. We would like to know if either of them offer NON all inclusive. We don't need to pay $80 each for a taxi, couple of tacos and a couple of beers. We never understood the value, when most beaches are public.

Mr Sanchos does pay as you go. Free beach with no entry fee.

I haven't been to playa mia

I like Mr sanchos, nice beach and good food delivered to your chair if you want. Unlimited drinks are good and generally just keep appearing once they know what you like.

I haven't done any of the activities that you pay for like the water play things.

  9. I feel like you are a similar cruiser to myself.

Happy to be away and take care of people who take care of you.

I also like to see crew in their various roles, and get to know them a little bit.

On our last carnival cruise, my hubby got quite unwell and I ended up doing a lot of things alone.

I skipped mdr one night as I just couldn't face eating there alone so went to lido instead.

A lovely crew member who was on break up in the lido after the rush saw I was alone and sad so she had her colleagues and herself come sit with me during a short dinner.

Let me tell you, it must seem like nothing but at my lowest point it was so nice to think the crew genuinely care and take an interest.

This crew member was not in a tipped position.

  10. Hello all,

We are doing a back to back cruise on the valor, and was wondering what we should do between the two cruises when fewer people are onboard. We were thinking that we could try to be the first to the red frog pub for the free pint of beer, or to go to the pool while it is quiet. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help,

    Goldencruiser

We did b2b2b on the breeze and on the first changeover we had a delay which had us go back on with the plats and wedding guests.

We sprinted up to the red frog and were the first to be served with our free beer.

Some other folks came up just shy of us and we laughed together because we passed them on the stairs as they waited for the elevators!

Then some other people came and got really angry with us that we cheated and they should have gotten a free beer. I tried explaining that they were the 5th or 6th people there so they wouldn't have won anyway but they got more mad and screamed at me that b2bs were banned from the competition. Nobody told us that and some other b2bs tried as well.

    I'm just really fast lol

  11. Hi, welcome to cruise critic!

My first cruise was on the Carnival Ecstasy, quite a small ship without updated amenities. It was crowded. There were chair hogs. Rude people at the buffet, elevator......

But we had an absolute blast. We were together, celebrating, sunbathing, drinking........ We made it OUR vacation.

You have an itinerary with amazing ports, you have your friends, you have all the food you can eat and you have (hopefully) sunshine and time off from work/school/normal life.

If they enjoy this and then go on a larger ship, i'm sure that they will be wowed.

Keep the trip as it is, don't read into the negatives too much, you'll be so busy that you won't have time to see the downside.

    Enjoy your trip.
