  1. We're with you....that is way too much. When they give their offers they need to be substantially less than the going rate to make them appealing....otherwise you would have booked it yourself at the going rate....how silly on behalf of CCL!

Just did a mock booking, the same 3 GS's are still open. If they are offering the same "deal" as they did for me, I guess they are not getting anyone to bite at that price.

  2. DW and I have a OS booked on the Dream for 01/11/15. I told myself if I get the call and it is 500-600 dollars to go to a GS I would do it and surprise her. Jenna was very nice on the phone describing how nice the room is and how we were selected for a special price for the up grade...... $ 1,053.00...

That is about $200.00 dollars less than the full boat retail price is going for right now. Needless to say I had to turn the offer down. :(

But until she quoted me the price I was pretty fired up !! :) Oh well....

  3. Just called. Would have worked but the price of the roomette has gone up since my initial purchase. The CS rep said since I had purchased it online, he would have to cancel my reservation and repurchase at the new price plus the discount, which was more than what I originally paid for. O well, it was worth a try

Sorry it didn't work out mrneil001. I called Amtrak this afternoon and a super nice rep. worked on trying to find me the code for over a half a hour with no luck. :(

  4. I'm just guessing, but maybe in a month or two they will extend the expiration date, or get a new code.

I took Amtrak from Effingham IL to New Orleans for a cruise two years ago, and I was able to use the Carnival Discount code. It saved me around $100 I believe on the tickets.

From my (limited) experience, the price of the train does not increase until a few weeks before departure.

Thanks halterk, That's was my thought, I was just hoping one of our cruise critic friends might have a inside track for the discount. :)

  5. Call 1-800-USA-Rail and tell them you are inquiring about fare code# V875 for your Carnival/Amtrak discount. I work for Amtrak but NOT in the reservations department. From what I can see it looks like 20% off but I can't tell if that's off the full fare or discounted fare. Just give them a call to check to verify.

Hi BlasianGrl, DW and I are sailing on the Dream from New Orleans Jan. 11th and Amtrak told me that fare code #v875 ends on Dec. 24th. you wouldn't happen to know the new code for after that date would you? Tried calling Carnival and they couldn't find it... :(

We are taking the City of New Orleans down from Chicago. Thank you very much !! :)
