We've taken a few cruises before where a certified birth certificate was sufficient documentation.
There are rumors online that St. Maarten will not let you off the ship and on to their island without a valid passport. Is this true? We're cutting it really close (January 25th sailing) and I'd really prefer not to have to rush for passports for our family.

All of our other cruises were satisfied with certified birth certificates/drivers licenses - but people are saying that St. Maarten requires a passport. Is this true?
Yes, yes, I know people will tell me that we *should* have passports in case something happens and we need to be flown home............but we live dangerously. ;)
