  1. Instead of having to go through Customs, then security, then line up to set up your S&S account and get the card and only then go into the boarding lounge, the new process bypasses one step- once you go through security you go straight to the boarding lounge and wait to embark. You only need to go to the Carnival check in if you need to put money on a Cash account or some other reason that you need to do a special checkin. You don't get your S&S card until you get to your room (1:30 for all cruisers who are not priority or FTTF). You use your boarding pass onboard for purchases if needed prior to going to your room.

Would this be considered “special”? We will need to do a switch of rooms because we booked one adult and one teenager in each room. Can we do that during embarkation or will we need to go to guest services after we board?

  2. If you are flying into FLL the day before your cruise and sailing out of Miami the next day, I personally would rent a car at FLL , choose any hotel, return the car to MIA the next day and then take the free shuttle supplied by car rental company to the Port of Miami. This is very effective for a smaller group the fits in 1 car. You need to rent from National, Alamo, Thrifty, Enterprise only. They offer the free shuttle. There may be other options such as Uber. Most of the shared ride services like to pick up at airports only and transfer to the port. Generally if you can manage to get back to FLL a shuttle ride is about $15.00 a person from FLL to port of Miami. Probably a wash in cost to a rental car. I am doing the same thing as you and rented a full size car from Alamo for $32.00 plus gas for a day.

Thanks, Berniez. Sounds like the best plan. Did you book directly through Alamo? I can't seem to find anything that low in price.
