Unfortunately we were denied the visit to the island as we were on board the Regatta, Southern Cross Explorer, Sydney to Sydney, 201217 - 230118. When we arrived to anchor the usual scenario took place. The Captain lowered some tenders then immediately announced the sea was to rough and we pulled up the anchor and sailed away just as for Exmouth and Esperance. Oceania reason was that the tenders would take on water and if the tenders were damaged, then they would have to off load 150 passengers. In fact the ship had been dogged by malfunctions since leaving the states. At this point there were at least that amount who wanted to get off anyway as they had enough of the pathetic excuses made by Oceania. So sadly we missed what really was a nice place.
Thanks everyone.

We have just returned home after a cruise on Regatta, Sydney to Sydney and believe me the problems you had compares nothing to what we experienced on this cruise. We fully endorse your comments. What out for my post shortly.

Just like to say thanks to every one for the very useful advice you have supplied. We have decided to take one of the Oceania Regatta tours, we came to this decision based on where the tour is taking us to, and also if the ship cannot get into port and the amount we lose if done by a tour company on the Island. Some wanted us to take out another private insurance to secure the tour cost which made our decision to go with Oceania. So the tour will take us to KI south coast and see the sea lions, see Flinders Chase National Park. Stop off at Seal Bay and then onto the Remarkable Rocks also to see Admirals Arch. It's approximately takes 7.5 hours which will be quite a lot of travelling time.
Thanks,
Roger

Does anyone know the best way to do a tour on Kangaroo Island (Penneshaw), we are there for 1 day. We do not wish to use the cruise ship excursions as they are vastly over priced, we have contacted the local tourism office and they do tours a lot cheaper. There is one drawback if in the event that the tender cannot get ashore, the tour money handed over cannot be reclaimed. They advise to sign up for insurance to cover this situation. If this is done it doubles the price of the tour so back to square one. Our personal travel insurance also does not cover for local tours.
So has anyone else experienced this situation there, or do we just use the tender and hope for the best.

For some years now we have stopped the automatic gratuities being taken from our credit card. We pay at the end to those who we consider have gone above what would be expected.
We are soon to do a 30+ days cruise and if we left the automatic withdrawal it would come to some £1200 and no where else in the world would you leave such a tip for any number of people, this also adds a significant cost to your holiday if you let the cruise company take it. Call me mean but its also my hard earnt money.

Hi,
Thanks for the info. You confirmed what I thought to be the case. Been with Oceania four times but could not recall about their policy on brining drinks on board.
Have great cruise.

We are sailing on the Insignia shortly and was wondering if you can by bottles of alcohol on board and use them in your cabin.
How stringent are Oceania on bringing drinks back onboard when ashore?
Thanks

Yes we have, they will only cover the our normal insurance items, not the final payment. Silver Seas are not interested either!!!

We are having a problem getting cover if we have to cancel before we do a world cruise next year. We are not prepared to take the risk and loose 10,000's of pounds

We are due to cruise around the world next year on Silver Whisper. We are covered for the normal types of insurance one would expect, medical, baggage etc. However like every one else there is a final payment to be made before ones goes on the cruise. We have looked around locally with brokers and on line to get cover if for some reason after we have made the final payment we have medical problem, meaning we are unable to do the world cruise.
Most insurance companies will only cover for some £7,000 each if you cancel!
Can any one help in providing insurance companies who will cover the total curtailment. Or if any one else has or had the same issue we have to getting cover.
Regards.
Roger

As as part of a cruise we are doing we are stopping off at Livorno and Civitavecchia, we have been to both of these destinations before but have done excursions to Florence and Rome. Is there some local attractions and transportation into both of these locations we can do, rather then go to where we have been before.
Thanks
