  1. maldenmusic thank you so much for this information! And that picture is that paradise that I'm looking for! :D I have another question if you don't mind! Have you ever paid the additional to go snorkling on the reef? Is it worth it? It is reassuring to hear you go here all the time and will be going back, that means it is that wonderful! I've only ever been to Cozumel one other time and we went to Mr. Sancho's AI but I wanted more of a paradise looking beach with no(or not very much) water toys and still with pay as you go options to just relax at.

    DO THE SNORKELING!!!

Cozumel is known for it's AMAZING snorkeling, however, most people don't know that it's famous because of the Palancar Reef (the 2nd largest reef in the world!!). Most people go to Money Bar or somewhere similar and do the free, off shore snorkeling.

By paying $35 you get a ride out to the reef (you cannot swim out to the Palancar reef), all your snorkeling equipment and a free 30 minute kayak (I think they're glass bottom) ride at the end if you want it. Other places will charge around $15 for snorkeling equipment and force you to buy at least one menu item anyway, so pricing works out well.

Playa Palancar is also never busy, because it's the furthest beach club from the cruise ports on the West side.

I hope you have a great time!

  2. My husband and I are looking for a quiet beach to do some off shore snorkeling while in Cozumel and we heard about the Palmar Beach Club.

It sounds like the place would be a lot quieter than Money Bar but offer the same quality snorkeling in the Dzul ha reef.

Does anyone have any recent photographs or experiences? We're only planning to find a place to snorkel in the morning then head off to San Gervasio so it doesn't need to be resort quality but it does need to be worth the $13 entry fee (2 beers included).

    Thanks!

  3. Hey there,

My husband and I (27 and 28) will be in Cozumel for the first time in March and we would like to take advantage of the snorkeling.

I am a moderate swimmer who's never been snorkeling and has almost no ocean swimming experience :o My husband is like a fish in the ocean and has been snorkeling numerous times in the Caribbean.

I would like to find a beach on the Western side that offers decent snorkeling a short distance from the shore (for me) and the opportunity for my husband to swim out further to a great reef. Any ideas?

We've thought about Chankanaab (maybe too touristy, expensive and lacking in good reef?), Money Bar (good snorkeling close to shore and far away?), Faro Celerian Eco Park/Punta Sur (difficult snorkeling?) and Playa Palancar (could my husband swim to the Palancar reef without a boat?).

We'll have a rental car so we won't spend all day wherever we snorkel, because we also want some time to see beaches on the East side and San Gervasio.

    Thanks! :)

  4. My husband and I will be taking the Liberty of the Seas to Cozumel, Mexico and Belize City, Belize on March 1st and are interested in seeing the Lamanai ruins on our day in Belize.

The tours seem very expensive and we've heard of anecdotal tales of people renting taxis for cheap in Belize City to go to Lamanai. But we have no idea how much it costs and no idea how easy it is to get tickets for the river boasts from Orange Walk to the ruins.

Has anyone successfully traveled from Belize City to Lamanai and back without a tour?

    Thanks!
