  1. We used Uber on the day prior to our cruise to get to the hotel and Aces on the way to the airport after the trip. Both were good experiences. We had a party of four with luggage. Depending on your party size a cab may be just as economical.

  2. In May we rented from Avis in Juneau and Alaskan Car Rental in Ketchikan . Alaskan Car Rental will come pick you up at the port and take you back when you return your rental. Avis is a short, maybe 8-10 minutes walk from the port to pick up your car. My husband and I went and got the mini van then drove to the port to get the rest of our party.

In Skagway we booked a private tour with Skagway Private Tours. It was a wonderful customizable tour up to Emerald Lake and back. It would also be a great option as you can tour at a pace that works for you and avoid the crowds.

  3. Just returned home. Here's what we did.

Ketchikan - Rented a mini Van, $80 with tax. Toured the area including Settler's Cove, Totem Bight, lunch at Rose's Caboose, then drove the southern highway as well.

Juneau - Rented a mini van, again $80 total. Drove to Mendenhall Glacier and hiked out to Nugget Falls. My parent toured the Visitor's Center and enjoyed that. Also drove out to St. Therese Shrine, gorgeous area.

Skagway - Booked a tour with Sherry Corrington with Skagway Private Tours for 6 hours. Really lovely, private tour with tons of local information.

  4. We just returned from the same Alaskan ports. The weather was unseasonably warm. I took a water resistant jacket and just wore a long sleeve t-shirt underneath. We wore jeans into most of the ports and tennis shoes. You can always carry along some light gloves and a hat.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

  5. Grabbed lunch at Rose's Caboose in Ketchikan this past week. I ordered the fish & chips which was enough to share. My husband had the chowder and really enjoyed it. My parents ordered hamburgers which were also good.

  6. Shouldn't be a problem. iConcierge is accessed via the ships intranet - no internet access. Keep the phone in airplane mode and turn on the ships wifi to use the features of the app. For your internet minutes, there is a separate login and password. It isn't that easy to use on your phone. The pc's in the internet café are a better bet imho.

Thank you for the explanation. On the website I didn't feel it was as clear since I believe they used the word wifi but not intranet.

  7. For those who have used it can you please let me know how this will work.

I plan to download the app on my own phone as well as my travel companions all staying in the same room. I have the 250 minute internet package.

Is there a way to assure that I am not using my internet minutes with the app on? Would it be possible to accidentally use minutes without realizing it? I'm asking because I'm traveling with my mother who isn't super tech savvy and I fear she may unknowingly use the internet minutes assigned to our room.

Can anyone reassure me this won't be a problem?
