  1. Illness and death is no reason to dry dock

Depends what the illness is and noro can be well dealt with

There are regular deaths in cruise

I was on a 42 night cruise with 6 die

    It is what it is

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Understood, but with all of the bad publicity surrounding the mechanical issues on the Sea Princess, missed ports, dissapointed passengers and now the dreaded noro virus, surely it would be a good idea to bring the Sea Princess of the cruise agenda a bit earlier.

That would allow for Princess to fix and spruce her up and regain the trust and satisfy faithful customers who love the staff and service of Princess?

  2. Obviously Noro Virus can happen anywhere and anytime and is the major issue that will spoil any cruise

But I would have thought this would be the best forum to drum it into peoples heads the importance of cleanliness in a confined environment

Unless Cruise Culture is to turn a blind eye to the issue and hope it doesnt happen on the next cruise. :o

  3. Sorry I should have been more specific - a huge bout of Novo virus

I know the condition of a ship has nothing to do with sickness on board, what I did mean is given all of the bad press with the Sea Princess they should just bite the bullet and drydock/refurbish and bring it back looking fresh and operating efficiently

  4. Just heard on my local radio station that a Ship which left Fremantle several weeks ago has been inundated with illness and will be cutting out several ports of the itenarary and returning early to Fremantle.

There has been suggestions that they have had 2 deaths on board as well? If this is the Sea Princess, surely they should cancel all future cruises and dry dock it.

  5. Hi cruisers just got off the Sea Princess on Sunday. Rumours are that one of the stabilisers is not fully operational so they have to ease the speed back for passenger comfort.

Another rumour was a cracked shaft housing causing the speed reduction from 21 knots to an average of 17 knots during our cruise.

I went on the Ultimate Ship Tour and asked the Chief Engineer and he wouldn't answer my question as to why we had to cruise slower, just said it was a technical issue that would not affect our safety.

You actually receive $130 credit which come in handy for drinks :)

  6. Just been notified of issues with the Sea Princess, communication from Princess reads:

Please be advised that Sea Princess has experienced technical difficulties which have resulted in our inability to operate at full speed. This in no way compromises the safety of our guests and crew which is our highest priority; however, our technical experts have determined that it is necessary to advance our departure time from Brisbane to 3 PM.

Hope our 1st June cruise is not cancelled :(

  7. Hi David,

    Here is the notification:

Please be advised that Sea Princess has experienced technical difficulties which have resulted in our inability to operate at full speed. This in no way compromises the safety of our guests and crew which is our highest priority; however, our technical experts have determined that it is necessary to advance our departure time from Brisbane to 3 PM.

I hope they don't cancel the cruise :(

  8. Just had notification that we will be leaving an hour earlier for our 1st of June cruise leaving Brisbane due to technical issues.

We now arrive at our first port of call 3 hours later at 5 pm. Hardly worth doing a tour if that is the case.

Princess have offered us $100 AUD credit per person for the inconvenience - nice.

  9. Sorry to sound a bit simple, but Aussie based ships have the tips included in the fare, but American based cruises don't have it included in the fare and although it is automatically added to your account, you can have it taken off.

Aussies pay more for the tips and can't take them off the fare where American fares are cheaper and you don't have to pay the gratuities??

    How is that fair

  10. Life is too short to have to put up with extreme negativity.

I appreciate all of the excellent positive advice. But I almost feel concerned for our fellow poster Karate Man who uses his negativity, through this forum, to satisfy his relentless desire to feel important.

I guess unfortunately, we fuel his inner desire to agitate us and satisfy his needs, by posting to respectful members among us who are genuinely interested in a subject which is passionate to their hearts.

As I haven't cruised yet, I can gather that Karate Man is obviously a minority of those who go cruising and look forward to meeting a majority of happy cruisers who enjoy the experience and are happy to share.

  11. Thanks for advice to date, I appreciate the constructive advice like the idea of bringing your own envelopes for notes.

I will bring a wad of $5 and $10 notes along with a pocketful of coins for room service.

I don't mind leaving a tip for good service, but it appears that the room steward, closely followed by wait staff in the restaurant earn the majority of personal tips and judging by the feedback, usually deserve the thank you offer.

Cheers again for your tips (excuse the pun)

  12. Eaglemad the pools are as hot as the West Coast Eagles at the moment

    Sorry couldn't resist :)

Nice one Kiwiaus, I get plenty of stick from my brother who's a Docker supporter.

Yeah I agree though, they are a little cold at the moment, but I am sure like the Sea Princess pools, totally awesome :)

You think they would be able to use the exhaust to heat the water of the pools, I hope the hot tubs are warm??

  13. Does anyone know if Princess puts a hold on your credit/debit card for a pre-determined amount during your cruise as security, when you register your card?

I have looked on the Princess website and can't seem to find any information.

    Thanks

  14. Recently cruised on the Sea Princess and beer was $5.50 for a schooner of Draughtbeer. Cans and stubbies were $6 - 7 and Grolsch was $8. Coke was $2.55. Cocktails and Martinis were about $10. Rothbury Sparking was $25 a 750ml bottle, or $10 a glass.

Specialty Coffee's (cappuccino etc) $3.25 but we purchase the coffee card which was $35 for 15 coffee's when purchased on board.

Thanks for the update on prices, from what I can gather those prices include GST and you don't pay the 15% gratuities.

No wonder Princess don't want to promote the all you can drink packages on Aussie based ships
