  1. Yes, that happened on our ship, very early in the cruise. We diverted toward Tampa but didn't dock there. The medical evacuation took place while at sea (that might be how they always do it; I've never experienced anything like that before.) We arrived in Key West a little late because of it. I've since read that the passenger is in stable condition, which is great news as that's all that really matters, of course.

Tell me did you hear about a passenger found deceased in their cabin? Also a child falling on deck 12? Apparently this was the talk on several occasions. I never heard any announcements for an emergency.

  2. We were on the same cruise! It was our first on Breeze but 19th Carnival cruise. I have definitely seen a decline over the 11+ years. I agree completely with the dining room menu. Desserts were strange. It was ok because I was usually too full anyway. I love soup so could have had that every night. One night the starters were all seafood based except the mushroom soup and I don't like mushrooms or seafood so I ordered kids mac and cheese. The grilled chicken breast seemed to be a "formed" breast that was pre-grilled. Yuk! We spent a lot of time playing trivia but did see the Country show. It was really good but they hung a huge Texas flag against the back curtain and it was hung backwards (red stripe at the top). Yes us Texans are serious about our flag...lol. I saw the same things with the staff. One time I was getting a salad in the Ocean Plaza on a sea day (its salad and soup) and the guy fixing my salad was texting the whole time so I had to keep repeating my order. Also in Lido buffet I was getting something sweet and 2 workers were arguing back and forth in front of me. Also at night 2 in the dining room our head waiter informed us the 3rd team member just resigned. Our cabin was freezing most of the time (deck 8 aft balcony). I will say that the bedding is down and that is not appropriate for hot summers. I didn't mean to hijack your review, just wanted to agree with you. :)

  3. HI there! Thanks for your review. We sail next week and I was wondering which terminal the Breeze went out of? Was it terminal 1 or terminal 2? We've sailed out of Galveston 6 times and last summer was the first time we sailed out of terminal 2 and it was terrible.

Thanks for the tip on which waiter to request. We are doing anytime dining for the first time this sailing. ;)

I believe it is terminal 1 because Breeze leaves on Sunday and Royal Caribbean will occupy terminal 2. We will be on the Breeze in 3 weeks.

  4. I've been on the Magic 2x and my 3rd will be in March, right after dry dock. I have been on the Sunshine once, the 2nd sailing. I loved them both. Magic is bigger and tends to have more public spots to hang out. It has the Italian place but did not have Guy's although I hear they are getting one. Sunshine had it all including a JiJi's. That place was amazing!! I think both ships are fine so you might want to choose based on $$ and itinerary. Good luck!

  5. For all 3 cruises out of NOLA, we stayed at the Hyatt Place that is right near the port. It is across the street from the convention center and just down from the cruise terminal. You could walk to the ship but we always park at the terminal garage so we drive. Very nice hotel. We have walked to Bourbon St from there but it is a good walk. Harrahs is nearby too.

  6. Thanks for the suggestions. The insurance is on my dad only and it is through carnival so I have no idea if it is a "cancel for any reason" policy. It was $119 for the policy. My grandmother is 100 so not sure you can justify her sudden turn for the worse. If I can get reimbursed for my dad I would have to cancel him and then I would spend money to pay for my son to be in a cabin alone. Guess dad will be a no show.

  7. So my dad is not going to go since his mother is not doing well and he is too nervous to leave her. He is booked in with my son and we did take the insurance on him. What is the best way to handle this? Do I cancel him now and hope Carnival doesn't want more money since my son will be in a cabin alone? Do I treat him as a no show? When do I place a claim for reimbursement for him? Never in all our cruises have we had to deal with anything of this sort. :o

Oh son is 18 and in the cabin next to us so no worries about age.

  8. Although I've been on 16/17 (lost count) cruises, I have never had to do name changes. We are going on the Freedom in 2 weeks and we have 3 cabins. Looks like my dad can't go so we want to make changes.

    Now: cabin #1 dad, son

    #2 me

    #3 son, hubby

Change to: Cabin #1 son, son

    cabin #2 me, hubby

    #3 friend, her daughter

So what am I looking at for name change fees? Original bookings were all Early Saver. Cabins are paid in full including mine which I paid double occupancy. Thanks for any info!
