  1. Trying to follow the system as well. We leave Monday afternoon out of Port Canaveral for the Bahamas ---unsure what to think --only our 2nd cruise and I'm feeling very nervous...

  2. We sailed on the Allure on the May 18th sailing in stateroom 14170. We were delighted with our room. I am a very light sleeper, but was not bothered at all. In fact, the elevator/stair area on deck 14 was very quiet and only once did I hear faint footsteps from the deck above. Our room attendant was amazing and we would request that stateroom on a return sailing. Have a great cruise!

  3. We have just book our first Celebrity cruise on the Constellation for Christmas week. I found the 'dailies" posted on cc and noted that the pool/hot tubs close at 10 P.M. ----- my husband needs extended hydrotherapy for medical reasons and I was wondering how set in stone the hot tub schedule is. Thanks for your input.

  4. I just wanted to let you know that we have booked a 5 day cruise on the Celebrity Constellation which sails on Dec. 22. We were able to book an accessible balcony. I don't know much about this ship- but I do think this is a better solution for our needs.

Thanks to all of you for your input - we needed to make the best informed decision possible and you all aided in this!

  5. katrina915 - thank you so much - I look forward to your report. I apologize for being so high maintenance, but I'm just trying to make it work.

I'm going to look at Celebrity to see if they have any accessible rooms available. We don't have to make the decision on the Brilliance until mid-Sept, so I still have time to figure this out.

  6. As an allergy sufferer, although not even close to what your husband goes through, I can sympathize. Have you thought of trying Celebrity instead? Their ships are 100% smoke free indoors. Brilliance is a great ship ( I have been on her 10 times), but you can not guarantee to be free from the smell of smoke.

I thought Celebrity allows smoking on the balconies - I'm new to all of this, so I very well could be wrong about that!

  7. yes its a terrible feeling , i sympathize with you and your hubby.

smoke especially will set me off, also wheat or cheese seem to trigger it, i keep a few inhalers nearby . seems to do the trick in a pinch. i couldnt possible book anything near a casnio. what about switching cabins to a different deck?

Oh my word, you truly understand ---- wheat is a MAJOR trigger for him as well. Tomato sends him in to anaphylactic shock - and even though we had contacted "Special Needs" prior to our cruise and spoke with the Food Manager, Head Waiter and our servers, he was served tomato on several occasions. We just have to be on alert at all times!

  8. Please don't be harsh with me - I'm nervous asking anything pertaining to smoking, but for my husband's health I have to find out.

We just completed our 1st cruise on the Allure. We discovered that we love cruising, but we want a smaller ship with more of an ocean focus. My husband relies on a mobility scooter, so finding an accessible stateroom can be challenging. He also has severe scent-induced asthma. Yes, this is truly a medical situation. I have been in enough emergency rooms while he was suffering from respiratory distress to know that this is serious. We haven't traveled much in the past several years, but upon reading of Royal's smoking policy we decided to take a chance. Our very first visit to the MDR on Embarkation day revealed to us that we had much to learn and consider. We were seated at the doorway on the same level as the Casino---the combination of the smell of smoke and all the perfume/cologne from everyone that had to walk past us proved to be too much for him and he had a major asthma attack. After that, we were reassigned and everything was great....it was just something we had not considered.

We are now booked on our next cruise on the Brilliance sailing Dec 24 and we are in cabin #7110. I have read a couple of reports that the cigarette/cigar smell from the Casino wafts through the ship. Can anyone please give us some feedback on this?

Please know that we do not have anything against those that smoke. We just need to take everything into consideration and be as health-wise as possible. Thanking you in advance for any advice you may have.

  9. Well thank you for posting, it seems like you enjoyed your first cruise. Which ship were you planning on booking?

We actually booked while on board for the Brilliance of the Seas over Christmas. My husband uses a mobility scooter and they had one remaining accessible stateroom.

However, we are now considering a switch to Carnival --- since the $$ stretch a bit more, we could afford a suite even if an accessible cabin is not available. Any advice?

  10. I have been a silent fan for a while now. Your review of the Allure actually prompted my family to book our 1st cruise which was the May 18th sailing. And now it's all your fault - we are hooked on cruising! We are watching your Carnival videos and realize we may need to rethink our next booking! Thank you for all the hard work and time that you sacrifice to assist your fellow cruisers - you are amazing! I can only hope that someday my family will be able to cruise along with Gambee!!! :D

  11. Generally speaking most E1 and E3 Accessible cabins cabin do not have as of sofa beds and or pullman beds. This is the case on the Brilliance. Therefore the only way to accommodate a 3 person is to have a roll-away bed. There is room enough in the cabin to accommodate a roll-away bed and it can be position to minimize any issue with using mobility aids when it's in use. Not in use the roll-away and be folded and back again the wall.

Thank you for helping me with this! A few more questions.....is there a sofa or club chair in the room for comfortable sitting? Also, how many chairs does the balcony accommodate?

  12. We just completed our 1st cruise on the Allure - loved cruising, but want to try a smaller ship. While on board we booked stateroom 7110 on the Brilliance - it is an accessible room. The crew member working with us left much to be desired - never even said "thank you". . .but my big question is that we will once again be sailing as a party of three (myself, my husband with his mobility scooter and our adult daughter).............does this cabin only accommodate 2 people? I would appreciate any clarification. TIA

  13. We were in 14172 on Allure last November. Phenomenal cabin, no noise, hallway turns right after the elevators so no sight no sign of kids. Cabin wa Huuuuge! Enjoy!

So relieved to read your glowing review about your room - we will be in cabin 14170 and I've been concerned about possible noise. We are getting so excited! My dh has been practicing and admitted that he wished he would have gotten the scooter sooner - he was able to survive a mall!!

  14. You stated back in Post # 11 "We purchased a Pride Victory ECV". For the record the Pride Victory ECV is a Full Size scooter.

Well, we were told (and it also states on the Spin Life website) that the model we purchased is a mid-size mobility scooter. I don't really care if it's in the category of petite, average, jumbo---whatever....as long as my DH is comfortable and it gets him around it's a winner!

We can break it down but often, just like iuki stated, we just pull the basket and batteries and it fits right in the back of our Kia Soul!

  15. My husband and I have been on several cruises with his Pride scooter! You will be just fine. You should be able to do anything that a 'normal' walking person would do!!! Most of the stewards/waiters are just incredible on the ships. They often fight about who will park it when we are seated for dinner. Even tenders can be handled if the weather is ok. If the entry to the ship becomes too steep they laughingly push my husband up the ramp!!! Please do not feel the least bit upset about inconveniencing anyone!!! they will understand. Those that do not are just plain rude and would be anyway!!!

Enjoy your cruise to the fullest!!!!!

Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words!

We have also rented a manual wheelchair to be in our cabin upon arrival on the Allure. When we call about the excursions, we have received so many different answers about accessibility, so we are trying to be prepared!

  16. Unsure if my husband's scooter is considered a "full-sized" or not - we can break it down into manageable pieces and we did opt for the bigger battery, as well. My DH is a bigger guy, so we were advised to go with a bit sturdier model. Since we live in the Orlando area, we are going to put it through it's paces at Disney World.

Now we are trying to figure out the whole vehicle lift thing----any advice?

Excited for the cruise - just a bit apprehensive about the scooter and mobility issues. We're pretty flexible though, so I'm hoping that will do us well.

  17. First of all, my comments are not meant to be offensive. I am not a politician, thus I lack the ability to use diplomacy at times.

May I suggest that you drop ECV from your vocabulatary? For the handicap that use mobility scooters or electric wheelchairs, they are not a “convenience” they are a necessity. If your husband requires a mobility scooter due to a medical situation, we all will share information in hopes of making things easier. However, if that scooter is just a convenience, please do not offend us.

    Betty

Seriously???........Diplomacy requires a great deal of grace. . of which I do not see being extended here. I have said time and again...we are new to all of this. My DH has a Harrington rod fused to the length of his spine and has degernative dics above and below the hook points-----I will not even go into the details of the pain he experiences. Someone merely asked what ECV stands for and I answered. I know many others that would be upset if I used the word "handicapped". And for our little family---the scooter will be a MAJOR convenience. I certainly hope this post is not indicative of the people we will encounter on our cruise. For the first time in years, we are attempting a vacation - I trust the vocabulary police will not prevent me from gathering and gleaning useful information from these boards. So, if I am being offensive, I shall withhold further comments. I feel so sad .............

  18. ECV=Electronic convenience vehicle

We purchased a Pride Victory ECV and DH is practicing with it. I can already see that this was a very wise purchase.

Since this will be our first time traveling with an ECO , I do have questions simply about dealing with it enroute. We don't have a vehicle lift (yet). We are driving from our home in the Orlando area...and yes, we already did a "test" pack of our vehicle to ensure everything fits! But we dont know the ECV ettique --- do we reassemble it for the hotel shuttle/taxi to the port or take it in pieces?

This seems to have added another layer of unknown to our trip, although I'm certain it will be of great benefit in the long run. Any other basic advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
