The unit price of the Icon ship will thus be EUR 1.25 billion, or almost $ 1.5 billion. The cruisers will be delivered to the customer in 2022 and 2024. The world's largest Oasis-class cruisers built in Turku at the time cost about 900 million euros each.

Besides being expensive, I thought there was a post earlier on the board that indicated that the delivery of the first Icon Class will be in Q3 2023 due to impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic.  Is this an older article or is that earlier statement no longer accurate?

I was really encouraged to have seen some posts here showing some of the blocks being delivered. Have there been more delivered since and is there any updated progress? Enquiring minds want to know 😃

  2. Does anyone know where on Decks 15 and 16 smokers are allowed on Oasis?

It's not shown on the deck plans.  I'm not a smoker, but we have friends that are.

I'd love to mark-up a deck plan to show them designated areas.

Any photos of the designated smoking areas on Oasis would be greatly appreciated.

I think the width will be a giveaway.  Not sure they could get to 230 GT without being as wide as OA class where 200 GT could be significantly narrower.

I’m not sure.  A lot of Oasis is open space, with boardwalk and Central Park.

that said, if they go tall, they must go wide.

Time (or more recent plans will reveal the truth.

Icon of the Seas blocks are in the house!

Well, I can see one of them in the foreground anyhow.

    Thanks for the update Lloyd!

What do you suppose the 3-tiered structure is in the backround after the pieces of the hull?

It would seem early to have a piece like that for Icon all set to go.  I would expect more hull pieces to come.

  5. I'd love to see 230K tons. That would make her bigger than Oasis class.

200K Tons puts Icon in alignment with what was said a while ago.

She will be larger than Quantum Class (roughly 168K tons) and smaller than Oasis Class (roughly 227K Tons).

This also means that design should be completed by now (even if finishes aren't selected and colors haven't been set).

But they already know what the spaces will be.  Does that mean that we should see some sort of reveal soon?

That would be a nice boost for cruising at a time when the news has been mostly negative.

Thanks Lloyd! This made my day 🙂

Without an open bay in the shipyard, where are they putting this and other mega-blocks? Also, I don't recall seeing anything about a steel cutting ceremony for Icon.  It would have had to have taken place several months ago in order to get a block this size together at this point and I would have expected some sort of press release.

    Did I miss something?

I am hoping ICON comes to Port Canaveral. Royal will need to put something here to compete with Carnival Mardi Gras (LNG fueled ship) and the new Disney ships. PC is the number 2 cruise port in the world.....

Maybe they'll move a Quantum Class down there (yes, I know they're traditionally thought of as colder weather ships), and bring the Icon to New York.  There isn't a Quantum Class leaving out of Florida, so it'll be like bringing a new ship to the market.

We love our Anthem of the Seas, but we'd love to have Icon come out of New York.

  8. WOW! I'm obviously just getting caught up Lloyd, but if that's not a typographical error, that would make Icon larger than Harmony and other new Oasis Class ships by about 9 GTs!

I thought that this one was supposed to be somewhere between Oasis Class and Quantum Class ships in terms of Gross Tonnage.

I'm looking forward to the press releases which will probably start to come out somewhere around steel cutting (right?)!

  9. Forecast for Feb 15 - suggests that temps in Orlando Florida are in the mid 70’s and in the upper 70’s to low 80’s.

found some cruise compasses online for Nassau for Feb which shows date and temp and was consistent with this.

At that time of year, anything can happen, but here’s hoping!!

also hoping that we’re not packed like sardines, but it is Winter break!

You will probably be onboard with a ton of kids and teachers. They have a week break around that time. We went that week last year. Fun crowd and the kids were all well behaved. Cold as heck for a couple days, then sun and warm blue skies. Not a ton of outdoor activities but a lot inside.

    Enjoy!

I was hoping that day 2 might be warm enough for pool/shorts, but it sounds like that may not be the case.

  11. No, it doesn't make sense. Not only is the access to them odd, but being so high up they will be much more exposed to wind than on the same deck as the pool. On cold days while underway, it will be uncomfortable up there, especially before drying off when getting out of them.

And some people like to move back and forth between the pool and the hot tubs. That won't be convenient with this goofy setup.

I wouldn't be surprised if they will be little used.

It looks like there might be some plexiglass around the hot tubs which would probably address the risk of injury and the wind concern.

  12. 14 is the most we were quoted and that I have ever seen.

Good to know that there’s still seating with other couples/families for when we’re just a family of four cruising and that people sit with the same family every night.

I completely understand why people would feel like they wouldn’t want to be at a table with a large family.

  13. We’re a group of 7 people traveling on Allure.

I’m curious what the capacity of the largest table is.

Going back a while, one of the things that I enjoyed was coming to dinner on the first night and meeting other people, who you would look forward to meeting each night for the rest of the cruise.

I haven’t has that experience in quite some time, and I’m wondering if that’s still happens.

Are there tables which would accommodate additional families over and above the seven of us?

  14. I'm a slow walker (knee & back issues), but we're already dealing with DD in a wheelchair, so no scooter/chair for me. If I'm pushing her, it actually helps me to go a little faster. I looked into a rollator, but eventually I did end up buying a quad cane for my upcoming cruise, partially for walking, but also possibly for assistance in standing from something like a lounger where I won't be able to get good leverage to stand up.

Is your dad willing to use a wheelchair / transport chair/rollator? If he doesn't want to buy one, they can be rented (chairs anyway, don't know about rollators). With a rollator, he can still go up & down stairs if someone else can carry the rollator for him

Great information. I’ve made the suggestion about a scooter and he pretty much told me i’m nuts.

I mentioned that he has no idea how big this ship is (he’s never been on a cruise, so big is always relative).

He walks a mile every day, so getting him to agree to a wheelchair is probably not going to happen.

He’s old and isn’t ready to admit it, at least not to anyone but himself.

His take is that if he needs to, he’ll stop and sit on a bench.

His larger challenge is standing for too long. His knees start to bother him.

Hoping that i’m wrong, but I suspect that at some point he’ll admit that he needs some help getting around.

  15. My dad is taking the family on Allure in June and is slow on the go, to say the least.

He refuses to get a scooter, and they have to be reserved in advance from what I can tell.

It’s his first cruise, so he has no idea how big this ship really is.

He gets around and can go up and down stairs, albeit slowly.

Does anyone have any experience traveling with a slow, 75 yr old on an Oasis class ship?

  16. Sadly, we were on the 6/30/16 Anthem cruise in which the boy drowned on day 1 (daylight hours).

There were no lifeguards on duty, which is not a commentary on weather they would/would not have made a difference as much as an observation.

The next day, life guards were placed on duty at the pools throughout the rest of the cruise.

They were at the pools at night and during the day.

Pools were open at night to allow guests to swim while watching movies.

I don’t recall about how many hot tubs were open, but there was more than one.
