  1. OP here, another thread that probably validates there is something currently making the ship shake more than normal. You said that it was ok "except when pulling into port with the thrusters." In our cabin, we never would have known when the thrusters were on or off. It shook like that the entire time. No worse or better when pulling into port. It was still shaking like a previous poster said when idling in port the entire day. So if that would have bothered you the enire cruise, then I suggest others cruisers move. It NEVER stopped violently shaking. :(

The OP is sticking to the original story no matter what anyone else says to the contrary. I was in an aft suite on the 4/26 sailing just a week after OP and did not experience anything as described.

  2. I am absolutely comfortable allowing others to post opinions...:confused::confused: That's the whole point of this. And I want neither an apology or compensation. I do not own Cruise Critic nor am I trying to control what people post or say. Not sure where you're getting that.:eek::eek:

But I think you're misunderstanding that the whole point of me posing this thread is to post about actual experiences, rather than just opinions. It's doesn't mean anything to anyone else to say, "yeah it vibrated, but we were ok with it..." or... "yeah it vibrated, and we thought it was horrible..." that doesn't help. That didn't give me a good enough idea of what was going on, hence I booked the cabin from hell. hahaha

Everyone has a different tolerance. so The two other cruisers who wrote in "disagreeing" with me didn't give any descriptive information other than the usual "yeah it vibrated but we were ok with it, we didn't think it was that bad." I thought it would be helpful to let other cruisers know if they were experiencing the extreme rattling within their cabin, to let others know if these cabins were safe, or not safe from that noise. And when I asked that question, they didn't answer back. You can disagree my opinion on how bad the shaking was, but you can't disagree with my experience with the whole room squeaking and rattling, that's a fact. It's also a fact that multiple crew members told us lots of the crew was sick, people were leaving the dining room because of the shaking, and we were sick when we have never experienced sea sickness before.

The whole point was to be a little more descriptive about it so other cruisers could know ahead of time if a particular cabin would have the same issues. There are a lot of people out there (like me) who this is a HUGE deal to, and could make or break a vacation. I actually started a thread when we first booked the cabin asking how bad it was since I heard varying degrees of tolerance, and nobody ever mentioned the entire room rattling. But now that I bring it up in this thread, there are others who have experienced this. I just wish I knew it ahead of time. So the only goal of this is to hopefully prevent someone else from having a bad cruise, or to let someone know that another cruiser who recently traveled in their cabin was free from the 24/7 squeaking/rattling fixtures and brain shaking.

Hi; suite 7296 here, from last week’s cruise on Pride. Let me say again that we had vibration in the floors but no extreme cabin shacking “squeaking and rattling”, and we had plenty of stemware in this suite with no rattling and used no wash cloths to stop squeaking. No completes heard by us from other passengers about vibration, and saw no “people were leaving the dining room because of the shaking”.

Maybe the sea conditions were different during your cruise that made for “extreme cabin squeaking and rattling”, but I think it very unfair to make a strong “Just off the PRIDE, WARNING about aft cabin shaking" - ”to possibly save someone else's vacation" to stay away from aft cabins in just your 7 day experience. Report what happened to you but suggesting that people avoid aft cabins {IMHO} just goes too far.

  3. I have to disagree strongly. I too am just off the Pride (May 3rd) and like you, I had an Ocean Suite, 7296, and did not find the vibration to be anything as you describe. After 35 years of cruising, I find that any ship will vibrate and shake, think of it, a huge steel pencil shaped object shoved through the ocean by huge propellers, you will get vibration, it’s the nature of the beast. Being on the same ship with the same cabin location as you I can’t agree with your assessment. We book suites, because we spend more time (than most people) inside our cabin enjoying the balcony. I can’t say vibration kept us out of our cabin during the day or kept us awake a night. I noticed no unusual shaking in the dining room either, beyond a normal reminder of the huge powerful engines a few decks below the room. A vibrating ship that is like a “paint mixer” is the former Carnival Destiny. I don’t know if the problem was addressed during her conversion to the Carnival Sunshine.

I am looking for a model of Celebrity Mercury. Do you have any ideas as where I can find one. It will complete my collection of ships I have cruised on. They did not have models on board when I cruised but they do now. Celebrity will not sell me one saying they are only available for purchase onboard. We cruised on Regent Seven Seas Navigator this winter and had no expectations of finding a model of her. I did on eBay and it arrived yesterday and is realty nice.

    Thanks:

    Steve

  5. Jane, you know there are insensative people everywhere:eek:

I know we are all different people and what is important

to one person is definitely not always important to another.

Here is hoping everyone has the bags and shoes they prefer:)

I am in a predicament myself right now....when 2008 arrives

I will be 50. I want to do something special for that birthday.

The only way my I can afford it is to give up my cruises

for 2007:rolleyes:.....lets see how I get through the next year.

And that is still going inside...but I really want to do

a Transatlantic or Europe. The time frame for what I

am looking at isn't even open yet.

Wish me luck....it looks like I will be staying home after

my December cruise...for at least 16 or 17 months.

    Ooops..sorry I got off the purses/shoes topic...forgive me.

    Hi Lois!

This has nothing whatsoever to do with handbags - but for a Trans Atlantic cruise, you may be able to get a real deal for a repositioning cruise in the fall or spring when the ships move from Florida to Europe and vice versa. We got a bargain on the Grandeur a couple of years ago. It was pretty last minute (two months out) when we decided to go. The cruiseline offered free air on our cabin accommodation. If you have a great TA, then maybe they can be on the lookout, especially if you are flexible with your travel dates.

For my 50th, we were going through the Canal. I didn't want to be anywhere near home when that epic event happened!!

To get back on topic, please wear shoes and carry the handbag of your choice.:)

  6. I succumbed to a LV bag a couple years ago in St Barths. I normally don't like flashing logos, but this bag was so beautifully designed and crafted that I had to have it. It's called a Viva Cite and is probably the most comfortable shoulder bag I have every owned.

On the other hand, I have a closet full of old Coach bags. I refuse to buy the "signature" collection. I haven't loved Coach since the early 90s when the bags were still so classic that they continued to sell their original styles from the 1940s. I have a Dooney and Bourke bag that Steve gave me right after we were married, in 1981, that is an equestrian style in a polished cordovan leather. I adore that bag. It is a true classic.

I cherish my black textured leather Ferragamo bag (dressy) and my old Coach shoulderbag -- it's 22 years old and still perfect. I remember paying exactly $100 for it 22 years ago when I really could not afford it. It served me well for years and years. Then there are also my Nantucket baskets. I also have a black Chanel bag that I bought with the help of year's worth of Nordstrom points! I have a brown Longchamp bag that I bought on a cruise. I have always been a "bag lady". When I was so horribly overweight, it was really the only fashion statement I could make.

I always rationalized that buying a good bag was good sense, because it would last forever. This has been true of all of my good bags. I rarely buy something truly trendy, because it would look dated as opposed to classic.

I still covet a Judith Leiber bag. If you recall, I work on a fashion show every year. Our most generous sponsor, a local jeweler who sells Judith Leiber bags, hosts a pre-event before the real event. He will discount everything in the store that evening. I may just.....
