  1. I couldn’t even imagine comparing these two ships...to me it’s like comparing a Fiji Apple to a Pink Lady Apple. I love them both. They both are sweet and good for me and i am never unhappy with either. I cruise carnival because I like the age range of the people, I like not having to make reservations for any shows so I am free to do as I please and I really like the food. I’m not a foodie though and a deli sandwich and salad bar for lunch everyday is perfect for me. Drink prices are cheaper on Carnival ships but we buy the cheers program so we don’t buy one at a time. Royal just went to requiring both people to purchase the drink package to mirror carnivals cheers package. I say you can’t go wrong and both ships will be amazing for you and your kids!!! Do one this year and try the other next year:)

  2. If you elect to stay in Fort Lauderdale pre-cruise check out SAS shuttle service for transportation to POM. They are a shared shuttle service with very reasonable rates. We use them when we are staying in Fort Lauderdale and cruising out of Miami. We also use them the return from POM to FLL airport. We'll be using them again March 2018. Checkout their website...www.ridesas.com.

We also have used SAS in the past and t was a very good experience. We will be using them again to travel POM to FLL when we arrive home!!!

  3. We are staying in between in Hollywood Beach. We fly in the night before (6 of us) and rent a car to get around that night. We will enjoy a nice dinner, pick up some drinks (sodas) to take on board and then get some good sleep. The next day I will drop them off at the port, go drop the car off at MIA and then grab an Uber to the port:) Works easy and it’s nice having a car!!!

  4. They will. I have actually called them and asked. They said as long as it is a can and not alcoholic and a “reasonable” size they will allow it. However their is always the chance a person at the port will not know any better. Just remember to bring them in your carry on and mix with titos vodka for an amazing drink:)

  5. I actually love this thread!! I travel 1x a year with a big group (12-16 depending on who is having babies, getting divorced etc) and everyone is so different. I have 1 good friend who does a spreadsheet for EVERYTHING. He will know the amount spent on anything vacation related. Then I have others who just let me plan everything and ask when to show up. I’m in the middle. I like to research so I can dream about being there and I like to plan on being early because I hate being late. But everything else can be fixed by a cold drink and no kids following me around asking for a drink:)

  6. Great heads up!! One year we came in during some huge Music Festival we knew nothing about. Took up 2 hours to drop the rental car off and get back to the ship. It was crazy!!!

  7. Maybe you’ll have your luck on a bartender this time, after you had one on your upgrade. Enjoy your OV cabin!

Thanks!!!! I am super excited:) I love carnival and cursing in general. one sour apple would never disrupt my vacation!! However she was not a nice person and so rude. I tried to kill her with kindness, tip extra and nothing helped. I decided that she was having a bad week and probably missed her family. My husband said I was just embarrassed because she was rude to me in front of people (which may be a little true)!!

  8. It wasn't a huge upgrade or a free one but it was still awesome!! Taking a quick girls trip in November with 3

of us in each room. Just got upgraded from an interior to an Oceanview for $40. The Carnival rep was

So awesome and accommodating. They wanted to put us on deck 7 but it was right under the galley. He was able to get both rooms onto Deck 5 Mid!!

    Can't wait for November 30th!!!

Hoping for a new bartender in the Alchemy bar since last time I sailed Sensation she was not a kind women even with me killing her with kindness!!

  9. Just call me a madman! :D

I'm on vacation and they've always done a great job keeping me entertained with their friendly service and healthy pours. I can afford it. I'm happy. They're happy. No one loses.

Perfectly said!!! We always always tip $1 or more each and every drink. I'm not wealthy by any means but I also have learned to budget extra for tips. I like how thankful they are and I know most of them can use it more then I. I have always tipped on paper. This cruise in November I am going to try tipping in cash and see if that's what they prefer. I'll actually just ask them because every cruise we find a few favorite employees that we love learning about!!

  10. I cant help with number 1.

For number 2, I have only a little to offer. On the valor we were paired at dinner in MDR with a mother/daughter with Celiac. The waiter had them pick their meals for the following evening in advance & they told us the experience was great. They said at other eating venues they spoke to those in charge & were able to get some appropriate options.

For number 3.. I did that once. I took an ex boyfriend & wanted so much for him to love cruising too. I tried too hard. Just go with the flow! Do what you do! If they're going to fall in love with it, then they will. Don't ruin your own experience or theirs by trying too hard. Show them a cruise as it is. Show them the options & let them pick what they like!

Thanks so much!! I couldn't help but laugh wondering if that's why it was an "ex-boyfriend" assuming he didn't like it.

Good to know about your dinning mates. I am hoping she will be able to try lots of things.

  11. Hey everyone, I've been on several carnival cruises and have even been on the Sensation before. This cruise is different though....I am 100% in charge of planning it for my girls trip.

Problem 1: There are 6 of us and they wanted to keep it cheap so we split 2 rooms, 3 in each. I put us on deck 11 because it's my favorite. I'm just realizing it isn't a "bunk bed" situation but a 3rd shorter bed.....anyone ever sleep on this type of set up? Is it acceptable? I'm easy breezy but I'm worried about the other person who has to sleep on it.

Problem 2: we have 1 friend who has celiac disease and is just recently diagnosed so still figuring it out (and obsessed with talking about it and telling everyone about it). I sometimes think her fears of cross contamination are unreal but I don't know. Other then the main dinner will she have dining options. I want her to have so much fun!! We are doing Mr. Sanchos is Cozumel and I am worried she won't be able to eat there either:(

Problem 3: I'm just nervous that they won't LOVE cruising like I do!! I'm second guessing everything.....any must do's for newbies that I might ignore since I've been on so many?

Selfishly I want them to fall in love because next year is someone else's turn to plan our girls trip and I want to cruise:)

    Thank for any advice

  12. I bought a set from Amazon and love them. Easy on and easy off. I tend to "put them away" between cruises and can't find them so I order more.....my next cruise is in November so I better start looking now. For the price it is well worth it!!

  13. [quote name=tatt2ed;53591584Im guessing they want the casino for their dirty habit and not so much for the fact they want to donate some excess cash to their casino.

Nope we like to donate money and no

dirty habits to be done in the casino.....

I will be booking a Havana room on the Horizon as soon as the May schedule is released. We travel with a group of people and like to be on the same floor' date=' however I think snagging a Havana will be much better then waiting for them to decide!!

Thanks for the great info, we decided on deck 10 forward but as close to mid as you can be but still considered forward. Noise don't bother me any, I wear ear plugs and bring a fan for my scheduled naps. The busy Lido deck doesn't bother me much either.

Then again neither does flip flops at dinner, waiting to get a drink, once a day room cleaning or anything else aside from plain rude people. I'm very easy going on vacation!!!

  14. May of 2019 has not opened up yet for bookings. There are four sailings available in April of 2019, with two 6 day sailings to the western caribbean, one 8 day to the south and one 8 day to the east. If you can afford it, the southern would be the best because of the great ports that normally are only stopped at sailing out of san juan.

The Horizon will have Havana cabins, with a total of 79 of them. Deck 9- 8, Deck 8- 8, Deck 7- 12, Deck 6- 12, Deck 5- 39. They consist of inside, lanai, aft balcony, corner balcony and suite. The only other ship that has them right now is the Vista. I would get set up with a PVP if you don't have one already so you can be notified as to when bookings will open up.

Thanks for the great information!!! I will be stalking it as well as letting my PVP know. We are doing Southern this time on the Vista. I LOVE San Juan. Can't wait to book the Horizon:)

  15. We went with the Lido deck and I am having Havana regret!!! Man oh man do I wish I would of splurged. We travel with a group of 10-16 and I felt bad making them upgrade. Now that I have researched it, it looks AMAZING!!

Will there be Havana rooms on the Horizon? Any other ships have them? Our next group trip will be May 2019 so I want to get my research done early:)

Oh and we actually went with the May 19th out of Miami, not April:)

  16. Do you honestly think that someone who packs some alcohol in their luggage to drink in their stateroom doesn't buy any drinks on board? Gamble in the casino? Buy things in the shops? Buy excursions? Eat in pay restaurants?

How can you justify even thinking of putting them off the ship? Ever hear of selective enforcement?

I couldn't agree with you more. We have in the past brought on some Titos Vodka however we don't drink it on the ship. We will bring it to the islands for my husband to sip on at beach clubs with his lemonade, even when drinks are included. This is because he is a Vodka snob and has a hard time drinking Shelf Vodka. I can drink shelf and/or beer so not a problem on my end. We are loyal carnival cruisers, buy the drink package, are extremely polite to other cruisers and staff, spend way too much in the casino and are over tippers. Other then bringing a bottle of Titos we are great cruisers. I don't bring wine on because I really like the stuff they have available to buy. I wish we could bring a small amount of other stuff on board. I will stop bringing Titos if we can ban the people who save 12 chairs up front at the pool and use 2 all day!!!

  17. 1. I know you are kidding, but their dress code is vague, and nowhere near routinely enforced. Makes things so much harder than it needs to be.

    2. What makes a pair of yoga pants "fancy" their attitude?

    3. My wife is a special ed teacher, it is always amazing to me the ways in which autism can present. I'm sure you have read the articles about synesthesia in people with autism and how their other senses can perceive color.

My Nike track pants are my lounging pants and my black yoga pants are my "gotta hit the grocery store" pants:)

I don't think pictures would be bad at all. Flip flops are vague....they make some nice fancy ones now that are cute and comfy!!

I have read the studies, they are amazing and confusing to me. I'm thankful it's just purple but it is overwhelming to him. But he works through it, knows to look away and worse worse case puts on sunglasses.

I don't think people wear flip flops to "break the rules..... I think what some consider flip flops others consider sandals. If they didn't want either they would say "closed toe shoes only".
