  1. Our ship is docking in Nyashamm when we go to Stockholm.

We also will be using tenders/launches. Looks like this dock is around an hour

from the main part of Stockholm. Any suggestions of how to get to stockholm?

Should we book a tour? Take public transportation. How easy is it to get around Stockholm once we get there? Want to go to Gamma Stan and the city center perhaps to the vasa museum and maybe the royal palace.

Not sure if there is any other recommendations of places we should see.

The ship docks at 7 am on a Saturday and leaves that evening at 7 pm

We had a similar cruise just last week. After tendering into the port of Nynashamn, we bought round trip shuttle bus tickets from the tourist center to take us to the train station. The train station is like a 15 minutes walk away but considering Stockholm is like a hour away, you would want to save time and take the shuttle instead. You can also purchase the all day transportation ticket at the tourist center.

From the train station, you can take the commuter train into Stockholm. Its about an hour and 6 minutes to get to Centralen T. From Centralen T, walk around 400 meters to Sergels Torg and take the tram # 7 to the Vasa Museum. After the Vasa, you can take the ferry to Gamla Stan.

pls take note of the train schedule as there are only 2 in an hour to and from Nynashamn.

Let me know if you have any questions, and will try to answer based on my recent experience.

  2. The bus runs at 14 and 44 past the hour most of the Saturday.

But as I noted the info about the cruise shuttle is still on the website so I'm thinking that they still run does shuttles.

I noticed that bus 27 will run less frequently during Saturdays. Together with the bus 27, will the special shuttle bus 26 to Oceankaj still be in existent by early May? or it will be totally replaced by bus 27?

    thanks

  3. Regarding Vasa, May 11th is a Monday so I think that it will be primarily cruise ships visitors at Vasa but not so much peak for "regular" tourists.

There will be two other ships in port, Saga Sapphire and Celebrity Silhouette, the latter aren't expected to be in port until 9am so perhaps you have a good chance at

getting to Vasa before CS's passengers do.

I had a quick look at the journeyplanner, you should be able to catch the 07.50 train to Stockholm which would get you to Vasa by approx 09.10am in the best case.

The tram and buses are very frequent so if you are unable to catch the 9am tram, a bus or tram will depart within less then 10 minutes.

The time required for Vasa is mostly down to yourselves. One hour is minimum but you could easily spend 2-3 hours there.

But let's say two hours which should leave you with plenty of time to explore Gamla Stan.

thanks so much for your input. The more I read about Stockholm, the more I feel the time is too short to see and enjoy it. :)

  4. Our family group of 6 will be tendered into Nynashamn on May 11 from the Regal Princess. As I am planning the trip, I need to make a decision whether to do Stockholm on our own or join the tour group. The Regal Princess will be at Nynasham from 7 am until 6 pm. Because of the distance from Nynashamn and Stockholm, precious time will be devoted to traveling back and forth.

From my research, I found that we can take the commuter train to Stockholm from the Nynashamn station. To do this, we can take the shuttle from the pier to the train station at 30 SEK per person. If we do not take the shuttle, this will be a 15 minute walk to the station. Then, buy a 24 hour travel card at the kiosk near the station for 115 SEK. The train ride will be appoximately 1 hour.

The train makes 2 trips each hour:

From Nynäshamn: 20 and 50 minutes past every hour.

From Stockholm: 4 and 34 minutes past every hour.

From the Centralen station in Stockholm, I will have to take a bus going to the Vasa Museum. This will take probably around 15 minutes.

How much time should I allot in the Vasa Museum? Since its not possible to book or buy tickets in advanced, I'd like to get an idea how long the lines could be at the Vasa? I have read somewhere that it is possible for them to close the line and ask people to come back in the afternoon if there are too much people. Since we will be there on May 11, is this considered a peak period for the museum?

From the Vasa, we will take the bus back to the Gamla Stan. We will be spending time to walk around and have lunch there. How far is the Gamla Stan to the train station? If I aim to take the 3:04 or 3:34 train back to Nynasham, will my plan be doable?

I can see that there are so many advise in this discussion and would appreciate inputs so I can make a decision whether to do this by ourselves or just join the tour. Economically, the DIY would be a lot of savings, esp since the 2 kids do not need to pay entrance at the Vasa. Plus the tickets for the travel is reduced to just 70 SEK.

    thanks in advance.

  5. The 26 bus is a regular passenger vehicle. I really can't guestimate how many would fit inside with luggage.

Another way to reach the port would be to take the train to Osterport station then take the 26 from there. It is a very circuitous route that is still 20 minutes from UNICEF. You pass the DFDS terminal on the way. Today there were no cruise ships in port and the roads were clear.

hello! I'd like to ask if the photos you have are of the bus #26 on a regular weekday or are these the ones of the shuttle buses that are available during the weekends?

    thanks in advance!

  6. thanks so much for the information. How often does the bus# 26 have trips from Osterport? Also, how long is the walk from the Unicef to the port? Im trying to weigh if taking the taxi would be my better option. Also, I have to consider that I will be hauling luggages to the port from the airport. Do you think taking public transport is still practical given that we arrive Copenhagen on a Saturday?

    thanks

  7. We will arrive at Copenhagen airport and need to go to Oceankaj on May 2 for the Regal Princess cruise. Accdg to google maps, we can take the M2 to Kongens Nytorv St then take the bus #26. then walk a kilometer to Oceankaj. Is this route practical to do? I read in the earlier post that the recommendation was to take the train instead of the Metro. What is the difference between the 2 in terms of cost and accessibility? In terms of purchasing tickets, which one will be most convenient?

    Thanks in advance

    Josephine
