  1. NYcruiser,

I think I read that QM2 is going for a refit next year? and the Kings Court will be revamped. I can't wait to see that because like so many have agreed, the KC is a big let down for QM2.

I received an email the other day from Cunard and it was about changes I would like to see in King's Court. I was given choices, like: Did I like Classic or Contemproary design? (Classic). Would I be willing to pay $200.00 per person to be wined and dined by a chef as he/she prepared the meal? (NO!)

  2. You can do it all online using the official address Pennbank gave. Just fill the form in online, pay by credit card and you will get a page to print off with your number and saying your application has been approved. That's it. Nothing more.

There was a gentleman on the westbound crossing who had not done his ESTA before he left. He was able to do it on board... But, I think there was a window of opportunity... Not sure.

  3. I've done three TAs... The one in January got a little rugged... The two this summer were pretty much smooth as silk! I've been told to expect some rough weather in the winter...

As for room/bath configurations... Only in Grills have I seen tubs with showers. In Britannia Club - deck 12 - it was a small walk-in shower.

  4. Great review, nycruiser80

    Thank you for posting it.

There was talk after May 9th crossing that tracking of the ship's position on TV was only temporarily unavailable. Sorry that your report contradicts the "temporary" part… It is really something we missed and hope will be reinstated.

Again, thank you for sharing your experience. I enjoyed reading it.

Hi, it's me again... Lauren, the social hostess, said there was a problem with a transmitting element (she said GPS, but that doesn't seem right)... Supposedly this is to be fixed. I missed the TV channel as well!!

  5. We were on the July 6 eastbound crossing and there were a large party of Amish people. Perhaps it was this group returning home?

We were quite surprised to see them too but I suppose a boat is a more "traditional" form of transport than a plane.

We briefly got into conversation with one couple in the lift going down to dinner. They were planning to visit a few European countries but, sadly, we were running very late and had to terminate the conversation when we got down to the second floor.

Hi folks... I was on both these crossings. The Amish people were the same, they were doing a trip to a religious place (I forget the details). They were not the strict Amish we usually think of. I believe they were Mennonites... I saw one gentleman on a cell phone and another with an iPad...

  6. I was in Britannia Club once and found it to be very pleasant. The restaurant is quite intimate, and the service and food were very good.

Same here. I did the July 6 eastbound and the July 21 westbound TAs. Views out the windows are far better than either Grills restaurant (have eaten in both). Saw whale spouts one day...

  7. I'm now able to log in just fine too. First time I tried I got the P&O page, but then I tried again and got Cunard's. Interestingly, it went to P&O when I clicked on the voyage personaliser link at the upper part of the "already booked" page but went to Cunard when I clicked on the one on the lower part of the page. Ah the varies of website programming!

    Same here....

  8. Just tried to log in to my Voyage Personalizer to check info on my WB voyage on the 21st. The sign in page for P&O came up. Has this happened to anyone else? Very strange...

  9. Good chance that it will turn into a tropical storm soon but by time it goes north there's currently only a 30% chance of winds above 39 mph at New York.

Track the National Hurricane Center's coverage here: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

    Great! Thanks for the link!

  10. As of 8AM the storm is only a tropical depression and would not reach NY area until Saturday night. Since your are traveling by train - the day before - you should be fine.

And if it develops into a big storm? They only hold the ship for late arriving Cunard sponsored flights. Hope you took out travel insurance.

Yes, I did! But, I will be much distressed if I miss this voyage!

  11. Soooo, what will happen if this storm does develop into a hurricane? I'm supposed to train it to NY Sat AM... I know what Cunard did in January when there was that blizzard - they held the ship until passengers flying in arrived. If I have to go down on Sunday, I'd be panicked until I got there... Any thoughts?

    Thanks, Lisa.

  12. . Premium Economy with Delta involves seats with extra legroom, a bit more forward on the plane.

Did this with British Air in January. VERY comfortable. Worth the price (Gulp!).

  13. Please tell us the price and about the quality of massage services on the QM2. And what tip is expected?

How do we get from the port to Newark airport after disembarkation? Is there shuttle service, and may we book whilst on board?

Thank you, in advance, for all suggestions.

I spent a week at Canyon Ranch about three years ago. It was VERY nice. Manicures, pedicures, and massages were all wonderful. WhenI availed myself of the services on QMII for the same things, I found the manicures and pedicures not up to expected standard. Though I didn't use hair services at the Canyon Ranch, I did on QMII - I had to go back a couple of days later as the stylist cut my hair longer on one side. I don't know how these people are hired, but I can't imagine them being hired for a land location.

With that said, I am seriously considering giving them another chance... Not for a hair cut, but massage is a definite possibility.

    Lisa.

  14. My dream trip. I think we're forced to settle for a one-way flight for the foreseeable future.

Yes! I can't believe I'm actually going to get to do this!

  15. I hope you have a great time dancing. In my experience, at least half of the hosts are American. The most I have ever had on a cruise was two British hosts. On my last cruise it was one International to three American-style.

Oh, I hope so!!!! The Christmas cruise had 4 International and 2 American...

  16. Thanks for the replies! My packing plan was going to be clothes in one case, shoes in another. The more I think about it, the more I realize I'm packing for three one week trips. Though two of them involve formal wear, and the other one not quite as casual during the day as might be on board (nice shorts, etc) - looking at summer shifts for museum browsing... I've done three garden tours where strict instructions for day wear were very much recommended. The first time I was rather puzzled as to why, but once there, I understood. One was treated better. So, not sure I'll be leaving any luggage in storage - would certainly be nice! Getting excited! Now just to get back my suitcase being repaired!! It will be a busy weekend! I'm using White Star pick up, they come on Thursday.

  17. I have been told to use tissue paper or dry cleaning bags to help minimize wrinkling of clothing when packing. I have, also, used nothing. If I pack leaving clothes unfolded with smaller items (underwear, soft shoes, etc) in the middle then folding the larger clothes over the smaller ones, I can minimize wrinkling this way, as well. Of course, clothes that do not wrinkle because of the fabric used, is a big plus.

This upcoming trip includes three separate legs of a journey - eastbound transatlantic, London for eight days, then westbound transatlantic. I'm thinking same clothes, for the most part (need three formal outfits for the ship) I'd say the same clothes for all three legs...

What sort of packing guidelines do others use?

    Thanks.

  18. Well, Bananavan, sounds like you had a great voyage anyway! I'm traveling again July 6, in regular Britannia - only PG and QG until now... Guess I'll really be able to compare ALL classes by the time I am done! I'll be returning on the 21st in Britannia Club. I did have the opportunity of upgrading for the July 6 crossing to PG for a additional $6,000+ but decided to see if I ended up with a complimentary upgrade... We'll see! My biggest interest, besides the ship itself, is ballroom dancing. Just wish I could know ahead of time if there will be any American style dance hosts... My feet get hurt we International Style... ;-)

  19. Details from Fred's brochure are: - 14 June - Avonmouth, 18 June - Reykjavik, 19 June - Isafjordur & cruising Haelavikurbjang, Hornbjarg & Dranagaskord, 20 June - Akureyri, 23 June - Olden, 24 June - Flam & cruising Naeroyfjord, 25 June - Bergen, 28 June - Avonmouth.

I hope this helps; apologies if spelling is incorrect.

    excellent, thank you!

  20. Thank you all for your replies.

We chose Princess Grill and are waiting for stateroom assignment.

As for the Pol Acker, is there any chance that it can be traded in for a regular white or red?

It sounds as if we will get three bottles, one for being PG, one for being Cunard Club and one for using Amex Platinum. Oh, that this could be true for all three legs of this journey. :D (I know it will not, just as we will not move up in Cunard Club status after the first crossing, nor the Norwegian part, nor the return. )

Come on May, I want to sail.

Well, now... Sniff, sniff... I was PG, World Club, AND Business Platinum... I didn't get three bottles!! I did get chocolate covered strawberries from Amex, though... :-)

  21. I've been on QM2 several times in the last three years when she has hit 25 knots or more. Indeed in December 2013 I was on the bridge when I noted the main display showing 27 knots.

One difference between "a normal cruise ship" and QM2 you've not mentioned is that QM2 has a tremendous reserve of speed that cruise ships do not have. So if she is diverted/has to slow for poor weather (which has happened occasionally on my crossings on her) she has the ability to make up lost time.

    Hope this helps.

Was this when we were headed to NY and the big snowstorm was coming? We arrived the night before so as to be in port before the storm really hit...
