  1. We had the $88 package which included 2 drinks and a plate of food, so I don't know how much it would have been if bought separately. I somewhat remember seeing a sign that read that each plate was $22, but I'm not completely sure.

This is what the plate of food looked like, which was more than enough for me. The lobster was not that big, but I'm not a big lobster eater, so I'm not sure it would be worth that much extra.

  2. A&J, we were just there on 1/2. We had a great time at Tropicante, but the weather was miserable! We snorkeled a little, but didn't see too much, and because of the weather, the sea grass was all over the place. They did open us a path to get in and out of the water without having to walk through the stuff. The water is pretty shallow for the most part, but gets deeper the further out you go.

Steve, the owner, was great, have us a free shot of the house tequila, and when the rain was coming down hard, let us all go upstairs and had chairs brought up for us. I will see if I can find some pictures for you.

  3. I have to say, it's probably doable. If your toddler fits in one of those backpack style carrier, you can make it to the top. I guess it really depends on how he does on long car rides, because that is a big part. The boat ride is pretty exciting, with tons of animals to see, so that might not be too much of an issue.

  4. Coder, yes they will take you back whenever you want. They had vans for us, so transport was not sketchy. Beware the port area, lots of people trying to get your money, and take you to some random place. Look for the guys wearing the shirt that says "Little French Key" and "Frenchy's 44".

  6. I just did the Lamanai and speed boat tour. It is about a 1.5 to 2 hour drive from the port, plus an hour boat ride to the ruins. Most of the time spent at the ruins was for climbing them and learning about them. There is a nice open area, but make sure you have bug spray. Most of the people on my bus slept on the ride back. In our group, I think the youngest people were 2 preteens.

  7. Ship - NCL Dawn

    Deck - 8

    Stateroom # - 8020

    Stateroom Category – BD

Starboard or Port Side - Starboard

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Mostly. Due to its proximity to Stardust, you could hear the music, but there was not usually anything going on in the Stardust when we were trying to sleep, so not usually an issue. Some noise when getting to some ports.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – No obstructions. However, this is a hull balcony, and I will try to add a picture to show. This room is just about on top of the W of Norwegian. To get the best view, you had to be standing, but you can see while sitting.IMG_0207.JPG

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal, I guess, this was my first time in a balcony room, so I was excited by it no matter what!

Was wind a problem? - Never

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - Not aft.

Any specific problems with this cabin? - None, whatsoever.

Any other comments? - There was some rust on the balcony, but nothing that detracted from how wonderful it was!

  8. About the pineapple, alot of folks go gaga over the roasted pineapple at Moderno (the chupicabra). It is good.

This made me laugh out loud! I think you mean churrascaria. Chupacabra is the animal that kills animals at night. Churrascaria is the style of restaurant that the meat is served on skewers.

  9. It has been asked before, but I have not seen any concrete answers.

Does anyone know if you can rent an ATV for a self-guided tour of Costa Maya?

I saw this: "Jeeps, buggies and ATV's can be rented from Bazar Costa Maya, located in Centro comercial del Paseo del Puerto, which is the shopping area for the port. Email Bazar for more information and reservations." on a meet on cruise dot com, but the Bazar website seems to be out of commission.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

  10. Here is the dessert menu from "Chocolate Night" on the Dawn last week.

    Drooooooooling!

Thanks for this! I'm going on the Dawn in December and I'm super excited!

My first cruise (when I was a munchkin) was on NCL, I'm not sure the ship, but I remember the chocolate buffet as being a highlight for little me.

  11. Thinking of this as an option...was it standard or automatic??

From the costa maya cruise excursions dot com website "These all terain vehicles are semi automatic and easy to operate, (no clutch)."

  12. After mitsugirly's awesome reviews, we have decided to book this for our upcoming cruise. Does anyone know if I can kayak to the snorkeling site and then hop in? I'm just not sure it is worth the extra $10 for the snorkeling tour.

    Thanks for the advise.

  13.

Our day in Roatan cost us (pulling out my bag of folders sitting under my desk waiting for me to install them in a scrap book)...um, $59 for an adult and $49 for a child. Which I think that is a heck of a deal for everything it came with (food and transportation plus all of the amenities).

First, I am in love with your reviews. I'm almost done reading all of them, but the pictures are awesome!!! Even when you say that they are blurry or whatnot, they look amazing to me.

We are going on the Dawn from NOLA to Cozumel, Costa Maya, Roatan, and Belize (not in that order) in December and I am trying to get an idea of things to do.

Do you know if you could rent snorkeling equipment there? I know you brought your own, but DH and I do not own any, and I don't think we will be buying them anytime soon.

    PS: Fellow RN here!

    PSS: Go blue!:)

  14. After weeks of on-and-off reading, I have finally finished reading all the pages!

Now, my input. Take everything you read with a grain of salt, what works for someone might not work for you.

My last cruise was in 2010, RCI. My then BF, now DH, and I did not do any research or pack anything special, just what we would normally take for a 4 day vacation. Clothes, toiletries, meds, and that's it. Did not need anything else, and we were just fine without an over the door shoe organizer.

Our next cruise is NCL in December and we are super excited! Since this one is 7 days with 4 stops compared to 4 days 2 stops, we are doing a little bit more research on the ports and what we want to do, but I will probably pack the same way, not going out and buying anything else.

My biggest tip would be enjoy your vacation to your fullest, only you can make it the best ever. Also get off the beaten path, we stopped in Nassau and left the main street and found an awesome restaurant, cute little shops, and other places that were not packed with tourists.

DH says "bang a lot"
