  1. it's lousy that they take away from you if you win. they don't do that at the land based one i play at. also, i never knew to check the wed. after i got back if i got a lot of points. the last cruise not very lucky but got quite a few points. i thought it added up over the year, so my 5 cruises this year would move me up in comp categories. i'm going to call this week. last comp cruise was xmas week. i wanted to see what they'd do for me for back to back over ny. they said 20% off inside. i said forget it, since that week was pretty expensive.

  2. can i ask what extras do you get from the casino hosts? i've never had one come over to me, or maybe once, in all the hours i've played. i've played a lot and lost quite a bit, not many wins, and do get inside comps and still only 20% if not comped..same as 1st time i played.

  3. Tori, my aug. 29 cruise will be my 2nd solo. I have also done 2 all inclusives solo. I found the cruise solo pretty easy. They had solo get togethers in the studio lounge (it was on BA, this will be GA) and people could sign up to dine and see shows togehter. i did one but honestly found being alone was great. also cruisers are very friendly and i met a few who invited me to dine with them and never had trouble finding people to talk to. as for being the only solo traveler on gem (whoever mentioned thta), don't worry you'll find you are definitely not the only one. Last cruise i went with someone but we met several solos who had never even heard of this site. It's a really freeing experience to be alone and be able to do what you want. i now prefer solo travelling! a lot of people are worried about meals. i went alone, sometimes with a book, sometimes not but never felt uncomfortable.

  4. Hi,

I think i posted this under another link! Anyway, I am going solo (2nd solo cruise, 4th cruise..all NCL) on the getaway 8/29/15. anyone else solo then? I am a bit nervous, even though i did it once. That time a friend had to xl last minute but I went. this time it is intentional. I did have a good time alone but wanted to see if I could find some fellow solo'ers!..diane

  5. crash, I just wrote you a whole long response but don't see it! I'll sum it up. You have to order special menus at least 30 days out. we just got back from jewel and they were great with both celiac and dairy free. special waiter. You can also ask if you can take your food to other restaurants. we did one night in osheehans b/c i wanted to go. you order the night before. specialty ones are great too. they cook all celiac seperately. it was amazing how on top of it they were. enjoy!

  6. crash,

You do have to request the diet at least 30 days before cruise. we just got back from the jewel and my friend is severe celiac and dairy free. we were very pleased with the service. They had her order the day before each meal, then they set all gluten free food aside to be cooked seperately. she had a special waiter who had her order all ready to be cooked and offered any suggestions if she wasn't sure. he was very knowledgeable. another great thing is they can send your ordered food to another restaurant if other people don't want to go to the same one. One night they sent her meal up to OSheehans b/c I wanted to eat there. She had no trouble at all which is often more than can be said of onland places. They said they are seeing a lot more special diets. so don't worry! Have a great time.

  7. Nancy, would be great if the solo prices came down! I was looking on NCL, which has solo cabins on some ships and even there the solo cabin was more, not too much but I was surprised. Anyway, just thought I'd say great for going solo! I did my 1st solo in Aug. I was supposed to go with a friend but she had illness so I decided to go alone. It was a great decision. I met lots of nice people, as you know cruisers tend to be friendly! I had dinner with some a few times but realized I was actually content doing dinner on my own (it was freestyle) and even went to the beach one day on my own and really enjoyed it. I wasn't tied to anyone's schedule or preferences. Very freeing. Cruises are nice like that b/c you can talk to people most anywhere when you want but then retreat to read, sun, etc. I'm wondering if all inclusives, which i have done a number of time would be similar. This was the 1st time ever traveling alone. Have a great time. I'll be curious to hear how you like it and how you like the ship. I have only cruised twice, going on my 3rd in Jan. with a friend. Have fun!

  8. I have now been on NCL several times with free casino cruises. They are the only line I've been offered. I was wondering will other lines give free casino cruises? I also wondered, if so, can I get one by showing that I am frequently offered and have taken CAS cruises with NCL? Just kind of curious to try other cruise lines but when I'm offered so many free ones with NCL, it makes me not want to pay full fee for another line! Thanks for any input.

  9. no problem about not responding sooner. I've been on the other boards here as well. I'm looking forward to meeting you! Are you prebooking anything? I was thinking I should prebook cirque? Have you had fun on other solo cruises? I've done one but it was with a friend. This friend had to cancel b/c she is sick, so I just decided to brave it:)...diane

  10. I put a separate thread in but no response, so thought I'd try here. I'm going on NCL Breakaway to Bermuda 8/24. anyone else going? My travel buddy had to cancel, so it'll be my 1st time solo. wondering if any other solo cruisers on the board will be on that trip...diane
