  1. Just wanted to say that we rented a car through Juneau Car Rental for our port stop on August 1st. Its right at the end of the dock where the NCL Pearl docked, so no far walking. Our car was a 2005 Malibu with 177K miles. It cost $67.85. We had no issues, it got us where we wanted to go, at our own pace and booking, pick up and return was simple. We brought our own GPS and headed to Mendenhall Glacier first. Took our time exploring. Then went to the Alaskan Brewery and the hatchery. What an amazing sight to see all the salmon spawning!

So I highly recommend Juneau Car Rental!

  2. We prebooked a rental car through Avis for Skagway. I printed out Murry's Guide to the Klondike Highway and highlighted all the stops we wanted to make. We drove 230 miles, all the way to Whitehorse! Had a great day, took our time, saw many more sights and stops than the train allows and it cost $167. The video we got of a mama bear and her 2 cubs on the side of the road is amazing!!

If you do decide to rent a car, you need to book before you leave home. A gentleman in front of us just walked in off the streets and couldn't get a rental.

  3. Just got back from our Alaskan cruise on August 7th. We had beautiful weather! I wore capris to dinner in the dining room with no problems. Carried a light weight sweater, but needed it more for the theater than the MDR. Not needed at all in specialty restaurants.

  4. We booked a rental car from Avis for Skagway & I'm looking into renting a car in Juneau as well. For the cost of a car rental (under $70), I think its worth it to drive ourselves. Our ship is the last in port and doesn't dock til 2PM, so I don't want to have to be limited by public transportation being done at 6PM.

  5. We will be docking in Juneau at 2PM. Would like to take the Blue Glacier Express to Mendenhall Glacier and hike to Nugget Falls and not be in a hurry. I'm not seeing a whole lot of current information on the Blue Express. Will we have enough time to get to the Glacier, hike around for awhile at a leisurely pace and make the last bus ride back to town?

  6. We programmed our GPS at home with all of the places we wanted to go to and brought it with us. No need to use data and it was ready to go as soon as we got in our rental car. We only saw one show on the ship. You're right...it's your floating hotel . Although we did eat dinner every night. And we were very satisfied with the buffet!

  7. I've been planning our Hawaii trip for 2 years. I've read so much - both on cruise critic, online and in the Revealed Guidebooks that my head is swimming. I feel so overwhelmed! My poor husband said for me to take lots of pictures so he can see it all when we come home since I have him driving everywhere! :) One thing I do suggest, which I just started doing, is mapping out your itinerary so you don't forget the places you want to see, the tips everyone has passed on and all your confirmation numbers in one document. I have addresses, phone numbers etc listed. I feel a little more in control knowing its all down on paper and I can refer back to it as needed. But I also think we're going to need a vacation to recover from the vacation lol

  8. I booked a cruise on the Pride of America for Sept 2016 way back in April of 2014. Since then, every time I call Norwegian to ask a question, it seems the travel planner that I've talked to previously no longer works for Norwegian. Every time I call, I get a new person and a new extension to use the next time I call. When I key in that extension, that person is gone. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm thinking that working for Norwegian is not a good thing.

  9. We are on the Pride of America in Sept and there are 2 overnight ports. Are there any restrictions as to when you can get on and off the ship? If we choose to see the sunrise at Haleakala and want to leave the ship at 230AM or come back on at 4AM is there an issue with this? Or is there always crew on the lower deck ready to scan your card so you can come and go as you please?
