SONDRA! So wonderful to hear from you! Thank you for the kind words about my Mom. We're having her Memorial service on September 9. And yes, that Mothers Day in Les Beaux was one of the highlights of that cruise. I was going through photos the other day and came across one of Mom accepting those flowers I had delivered to her at that gorgeous restaurant in Les Beaux during our lunch together, and the look on her face...oh boy. I fell apart just seeing the joy. She was SO surprised, and thrilled!

Our private tours on that cruise were truly some of the best tours I've ever taken on any cruise. I feel like I've been chasing that whole experience ever since, and have never quite matched it. 🙂

Hmm...have you thought about booking a cruise on Symphony next year? Like maybe...Rome to Venice on Nov. 4 2024? 😁😁😁

It was a great cruise LeeAnn and you did a great job of arranging the tours. As I said, that day was a highlight for us too.

We hadn’t looked at cruising in November, but will check out that cruise.

We used to like Regent before they added tours and we tried Regent again this past March while waiting for Crystal to return. Regent is good. We were on the inaugural Crystal cruise and are booked on 2 more and have an open booking for a third. In fact we are also waiting to see the 2025 schedule because we booked an area of the world with Regent for this coming year. If Crystal does that same area in 2025, we are cancelling  the 2024 Regent cruise to book Crystal. Crystal just is better.

Thanks for the advice. The Regent cruise we took was many years ago and all of the tours we did were private. It sounds like the new Crystal is a line we’d really consider and will look into what cruises might work for us.

  3. LeeAnn

We were in that group of 12 on the Regent cruise. I tried to email you when I read about your Mom’s passing but the address I have is an old one. I still remember our great Mother’s Day in Les Baux.

I’ve been reading the Crystal boards as my husband and I are considering a cruise with Crystal next year and I was interested in how people are liking the new Crystal.

  4. KCSungirl - I start d to read your report as we’re considering taking this cruise next year and wanted to learn more about it.

Just wanted to let you know that I can sympathize with you about not having ESPN and being able to get the Open. I’m chewing my nails in anticipation of Rafa’s match tonight against Thiem and will do my best to send him your vibes from the UK.

Enjoy your cruise - I’m enjoying your report.

  5. There is absolutely no problem walking from the Marriott Pinnacle to the cruise ship terminal. We live half a block away from the hotel and we walk in the area both during the day and in the evening. It's definitely safe and an easy walk.

  6. We haven't cruised with Uniworld, but we cruised with Viking this past June. I have to say that on our cruise, when we had issues with the high river, they really went out of their way to compensate. Our bus ride to Strasbourg ended up being longer than expected as we were docked in an alternate port and they took everyone to lunch in a very nice restaurant. As there were still issues the following day with the river and we had to disembark a day early, they opened the bar on our final evening for complimentary drinks. When we returned home, the sent us a voucher for 30% off a future cruise which we didn't expect as the high river was affecting all the cruise lines and not just them.

  7. pontac,

Thank you for the information. We are thinking of booking this cruise next June and I've been reading the reviews and looking for information on what it offers.

I hope that anyone who is taking it this year will report back on their experience.

  8. Thanks for the information, Katjoy 56. We are thinking of taking that cruise

next June. On some of the reviews from last year, it seems that they boarded in Chalon Sur Saone which is a ways out of Lyon, but on the Viking website it says Lyon. It sounds like you enjoyed the cruise.

We took the Viking Rhine cruise this year and loved it. The boat was beautiful and the food and service were great. We did have a problem at the end of the cruise with the high levels of the river, but we knew to expect that there may be problems.

  9. notamermaid, we had a wonderful time Strasbourg. It was our favourite stop. What a lovely city - so charming. We had some excitement with a huge rain, thunder and hailstorm, but managed to see a lot of the city.

Viking told us this morning that they had to move from Mannheim, but had no idea where they were going to go. They were afraid that we'd get stuck on the boat and not be able to disembark us on Friday to get us to Basel. They had no idea at the time where the new passengers would board. There several boats stopped in Speyer and Mannheim.

  10. Today they moved the boat from Speyer to Mannheim after we had all left for Strasbourg. Tonight at dinner they told us that everyone would disembark tomorrow morning at 8am for a long trip to the Black Forest and then be taken to hotels in Freiburg for tomorrow night. From there they will bus everyone to Basel on Friday. The staff have been amazing and tonight drinks were "on the house" after dinner. They also added a lunch in Strasbourg today. We decided to take the bus ride as we really wanted to see Strasbourg. It was one of the reasons we took this trip.

Sisnsetbeachgal, we did see a bit of Speyer before our tour to Heidelberg. As they moved the boat to Manmheim today, those that had planned to go there weren't able to.

I hope the rest of your cruise, goes well and that the cruises that follow ours are able to do their planned itineraries.

  11. We are currently on the Viking Eir and we are docked at Speyer. We arrived yesterday morning and we've been told that this is as far as we are able to go enroute to Basel. Yesterday we had our normal tour and day in Heidelberg. Today they will bus us to Strasbourg as planned with the necessary time adjustments. They are making decisions day by day but it looks like they will be making plans to get is to Basel from Speyer on Friday. There are several other boats docked with us in Speyer.

  12. We visited Saigon on our cruise in February. We toured with Zoom for the day while we were there. We had the good fortune to be there on their New Year's Day and Zoom made it a very special day for us. We visited several areas where celebrations were taking place and the feeling in the city was wonderful. Zoom also took the time to take several pictures of us during the day, as well as pictures of all the places we visited. When we returned home, he mailed us a disc of all the pictures and it's a wonderful remembrance of our time there. We learned a lot from Zoom as he has so much knowledge about his country and city and he loves to share it with his clients. I highly recommend Zoom as a tour guide for Saigon. We are planning to return to Asia in 2012 and hope to tour with him again.

  13. I had completely forgotten about it until you mentioned the name. Also, I thought the questions and comments were referring to the products that Oceania put around the bathtub and in the cabinet for use. The Hermes products were in a small travel case on the vanity in the dressing area, not the bathroom.
