  1. We would really like to go to Blue Hole, but our ship docks at Montego Bay, and I'm worried about the drive time....Does anyone know how long it really is?

Has anyone gone to Blue Hole from MoBay? Did it seem like you spent your whole day in the car? Was it rushed? Would you do it again?

    Thanks!

How long is your ship docked?? It is 63 miles one way. At least one hour and 45 min.

I have only gone from Falmouth and it was FANTASTIC!

  2. We were quoted $200 for 2 which includes transportation from Montego Bay, entry and lunch. His pricing seems all over the place.

From what Liberty Told me when I was setting up our tour, they do private tours and group tours. The rate will be higher for private tours. If you do a group tour the price would be lower. I can suggest you join your roll call on cruise critic and ask if anyone would like to join you to keep your price low. We did this and it worked out great. Also keep in mind that Montego Bay is 63 miles one way to Ocho Rios. That is a big expense for the tour companies, esp since their prices are higher than what we pay in the states. Also the owners of the Blue Hole regulate the admission cost there and the tour companies

don't have a say so. I would use Liberty again in a heartbeat. (In fact we are this summer) They are honest and genuine people. Think of what the ship tours cost! They are 3x more. I refuse to do ship tours!

  3. Hey all,

do you guys know how long the drive was from Falmouth to Blue Hole? I know it is farther than Dunn's River Falls (Which we have done and it gets to be a ZOO the later you get there). Also, anyone do Blue Hole AND river tubing? we went tubing after the falls last time and that is the one thing EVERYONE wants to go back and do this trip.

I have reached out to a few different tour guides (we used Peat Taylor last time) but know there seem to be A LOT more guides now! YIKES.

I want to make sure we find one that has an air conditioned van and one that doesn't take like 30 people at a time. any suggestions?

We used Libertytoursjamaica. They will do a combo to the Blue Hole and tubing if you want. The ride to the Blue Hole is about an hour. Its not far from Dunns, but if you are in a smaller van and not a bus, it won't take as long!

We had Ricardo as our driver. Send him and inquiry what your expectations are and hopefully he can accommodate your group. We were very pleased with his services. I would hope ALL vans in Jamaica are air conditioned!!

    Hi Julia,

Greetings from Belize. Just wanted to touch base with you due to the fact that I saw your posts on a Cruise Critic. Sorry Belize is frustrating you, but it really shouldn't. We are very professional company with only the most professional and hospitable guides working for us. I understand your concern about the Trip Advisor review, however, in the beginning we had a major issue with them and our listing. They had our listing tagged to another company from another country. I thought if I posted a review with our company name, they would figure it out and fix it. That didn't work, however, after 7 months of persistence they got our listing right and posted that old test review.

All the international wholesales, including the tours sold on the ships are done by local companies. We are professional and we try to provide the best time to folks on vacation. We take that seriously. Hence the reason we monitor to see what people are saying. We have never gotten negative feedback, but whenwe do we will use that to improve our services.

All the reviews from TA, except for the one I posted are from very satisfied customers and they weren't prompted to review. We have taken thousands of guests on their excursions and the pics in our gallery and social media are all real pics, not of models like some of the other sites. Just real people having real fun.

Again sorry for your frustration, but I hope you get an excursion in Belize and that your vacation turns out spectacular.

    Warm regards,

  5. Planning for an upcoming cruise in January and one of our stops will be Ocho Rios. Heard about this tour company on TripAdvisor and wondering if anyone has any great experiences they would like to share. So far I think I have narrowed it down but would love to hear recent reviews and/or recommendations on this tour company.

We are thinking of doing the Blue Hole but open for suggestions!

    Thanks!

That's how I found them on Trip Advisor! Highly recommend Liberty Tours.

Actually, I just booked with them for this upcoming summer. The Blue Hole is amazing! Ricardo is so patient and kind. Enjoyed our day with him and can't wait to do it again!

  6. My wife and I did this and LOVED it. I found a fantastic tour company thru many positive reviews on these forums and trip advisor. Happy to say we made a wise choice by going to the Blue Hole. It was not crowded, very peaceful and beautiful. Never saw anything like this before. It truly is a hidden GEM, just as the reviews have said. The guides are there to help you, as much as you need, have no fear. Plan to return again this summer. We used this company: www.libertytoursjamaica.com

and it was the best decision we made. Prompt, courteous service, enjoyable ride from Falmouth to Ocho Rio's with highlights of island pointed out. Stopped for some jerk chicken after the Blue Hole. Excellent choice as well!

  7. Will be on Oasis for Thanksgiving - Western Carribean cruise with kids age 14 & 11. My question , we are thinking of doing the zipline in Haiti, Dunn falls in Jaimaica & Three reef snorkeling in Cozumel. Do I book this with the cruiseline or should i book from outside ? Which companies have good reputation for these excursions.

    Must apperciate your help :)

I have used Island Marketing for snorkeling sailboat tours, and all inclusive beach clubs with very positive results.

Nachi Cocum is the popular all inclusive in Cozumel.

The Zipline is Labadee is approx $100 pp and is owned and operated by RC, since it is their private island.

I recommend The Blue Hole in Jamaica instead of Dunn's River Falls.

However, you must book an independent operator to go there.

We just recently visited and used this company:

    www.libertytoursjamaica.com

We had researched others and compared prices, vehicles, number of people, and found Libertytours was best for our group.

They are rated high on Trip Advisor as well. Would go with them again in an instant.

  8. Hello everyone I was looking for suggestions or ideas on what to do in Falmouth. My friend and I are in our 40s and enjoy swimming, zip lining and walking. Any good suggestions for activities around the Falmouth area will be appreciated. We didn't not want to spend too much money or go too far from dock.

    Thanks

You kind of have to get out of Falmouth on a tour to see the real Jamaica.

We did the Blue Hole with Libertytoursjamaica and had a fabulous day.

It is a hidden gem you WON'T want to miss. Worth going, even though it is an hour away. Why don't you want to go far from the dock? There is not much to do at the dock. We LOVED the Blue Hole.

  9. can I ask what the price quoted was for? and for how long? Just starting to look at Ochos Rios for my Dec 1st cruise!

I would suspect the price would be cheaper from Ocho Rios, if that's where you are docking. Send Liberty an inquiry via their website and they will give you a quote, depending on where you want to go on a tour. I think the prices are different depending on where you are picked up and what you want to do. Hope this helps.

He picked us up at the Falmouth Pier.

  10. So based on everything I have read on TripAdvisor and Cruise Critic, I found the names of several highly recommended private tour guides for my upcoming day in Jamaica... and all of course say they were the best...

I have since emailed them all and they're all willing to go where I want, but they've all quoted me the same price! How to choose?

Courtney Taylor, Errol Bowen, Marvyn Gayle, as well as going with a tour group like Ocho Rios Authentic Tours (Elizabeth Flowers) or Wentworth Tours (Wentworth Pearson)... and I'm still waiting to hear back from Dwaine Bailey and Ionie McBeam...

so... has anyone toured with 2 or more of these guys to help me compare??

    You didn't mention www.Libertytoursjamaica.com !!

The reason I said that is because that's who we toured with!

I cant speak for the other tour companies,,, but we truly had the best day with Ricardo @ Libertytoursjamaica. From what I could see our group was smaller, therefore I suspect we were offered more personalized service. Ricardo planned our day according to what and when we wanted to do it. No wait times for other passengers either, for the bus to fill up, because we were in a van!

Ricardo even called my wife a few times to confirm our ship, arrival time and where to meet him. He truly cares about his clients and wants them to have a memorable experience in Jamaica. We made a friend for life!

Give him a try, you will happy you did!

  11. Never heard of him, but we used this company and had the BEST tour ever!!

    www.libertytoursjamaica.com

Went to the Blue Hole, had a fabulous day at the falls, swimming and jumping in the most beautiful turquoise water. The guides there helped us maneuver throughout the day, took our camera and got some great pics with us jumping into the water.

We then ate at Scotchies for their famous jerk chicken, did some sight seeing and shopping. I highly recommend this company!

  12. Any other good options or any good private tours to take?

I highly recommend this company: http://www.Libertytoursjamaica.

We went to the Blue Hole and had the most thrilling and exciting day of our cruise stop in Falmouth. This company is professional, will pick you up at the pier in a clean air conditioned van and keep you safe. The Blue Hole is not touristy, so there are no ship crowds, has beautiful turquoise water, waterfalls, a hidden cave and a Tarzan rope swing. The guides at the Blue Hole assist you throughout your day. After all the fun, your driver from Libertytoursjamaica will take you to Scotchies for the best jerk chicken you've ever tasted!

Scotchies is a wonderful outdoor restaurant you can relax and enjoy Red Stripe beers for $2.00. Greatest day ever!!

  13. Hey everyone!

We are headed back to Jamaica in June, and I am looking for suggestions. I would like to do an excursion that won't be hours on a bus, but is a little bit off the beaten path and doesn't feel "Disneyfied" (Not knocking Disney! I am a huge fan, but I want my Disney feeling places to be Disney...). Last time we were in Jamaica we stopped at Ocho Rios, and did the Dunns River Falls and River tubing with Phil Lafayette, which was an absolute blast! He offers a blue hole and tubing adventure from Falmouth, but it is a lot more costly. My mom is adventurous, but she is turning 70 this year, so I want to make sure she is safe and has a lot of fun. She loved the tubing, and I think she would enjoy the blue hole. Does anyone have any suggestions of who to go with or other excursions that might work? We love being in the water, but are doing beach days in several other ports. I would like to have some jerk chicken, and possibly do a little shopping, but the cruise is all about her.

We used this company and HIGHLY recommend them. They can customize the tour for your family. If you want to shop- NO problem MON! Scotchies is where we went for the best jerk chicken ever! The Blue Hole is not to be missed! Its so Beautiful.

  14. Has anyone went on a private tour with Marvin Gayle? He has great recommendations on tripadvisor, but very little here. We are also looking at Liberty Tours, but their price is higher.

Don't know about Marvin, never heard of him. We researched different operators before we booked thru TA and CC, and can say were were very happy we used Liberty Tours Jamaica. Their price was actually the same, since the tour, admission to the Blue Hole, and lunch at Scotchies was included. You have to factor all of that in when comparing prices. Also the group size. We really didn't want to be on a large bus, waiting for other passengers to arrive and depart. Liberty worked well for us, and we felt we made the right choice.

  15. New to Cruise Critic. We are arriving in Falmouth on the Disney Fantasy in a couple of weeks. I just read a number of reviews here. People referring to Liberty Tours, Peat Taylor Tours, Jamaica Phil. I did see the link to Jamaica Phil; can you provide means of contact with the other two? Thanks.

Watch that video taken from Liberty Tour's website. Makes you want to go there NOW!

BEST tour ever! Highlight of our cruise stop in Falmouth.

  17. Howdy,

We just did this excursion this past week. It is beyond awesome! I took my Nikon d3100 with me and handed it to one of our guides. He was GREAT. Took lots of photos for me and kept the camera dry. The guides work very hard for tips (they are not paid by the park). Please remember to tip them accordingly.

I did every jump at least twice. Simple amazing and fun.

We would LOVE to see your pictures!! Can you post?

I am a camera fanatic and have a Cannon, however I have a Nikon that I purchased on the ship specifically for the continuous action setting. This setting worked best for us at the Blue Hole capturing us jumping off the cliffs. It also is great for the parades and the Ice show.

  18. I would like to recommend this tour company that we used that ended up being the highlight of our cruise in Falmouth to the Blue Hole.

    http://www.libertytoursjamaica.com

This company is available 365 days a year. Very reliable, dependable, knowledgeable of their island, provides friendly, courteous service. We had Ricardo as our driver and highly recommend him. He will customize a tour for your group with a personal phone call from him to plan the perfect trip for you and your group.

We had researched the CC boards and Trip Advisor extensively and definately made the right choice with Libertytoursjamaica.

Our group has already made reservations with Ricardo to return in the spring. Can't wait!!

  19. I really wanted to go to the falls, but an hour each way seems like a long ride. Is there anything else to do near this port besides go to Margaritaville? It will be our first trip to Jamaica. Is it safe to do much outside the port area?

Totally agree with the above poster! Libertytoursjamaica and Secret Falls were well worth the drive. I would venture out for sure and not just stay at the port.

  20. Thank you both for your replies!

I agree with the Long car ride being a challenge with kids.. I have heard that it is only 1 hour each way though? I could be totally wrong and would love to hear if anyone knows the answer to this..

    Thank you so much!

We went the the Blue Hole with Ricardo at Libertytoursjamaica and our group LOVED it. It was an hour each way. Ricardo takes a small group and will cater to your needs. He stopped at a local shopping center before we got to the falls so we could buy some trinkets and beach towels. I tend to collect shot glasses from every port, so I wanted one of Ocho Rios. No problem MON according to Ricardo. I saw some teens there having the time of their lives! This tour would definalty be more adventureous for them! Give Ricardo a try you won't be disappointed!

  21. Which excursion company did you use and how was your experience? What were the local food options?

We used Libertytoursjamaica.com and I highly recommend them!

Went to the Blue Hole, this by far was the best private excursion we

have ever done. After the Blue Hole, Ricardo took us to Scotchies for lunch for the famous "jerk" chicken. It was to die for. Not spicy as you would think, just seasoned perfectly, moist and grilled. Had some Red Stripe Beer there as well. Perfect end to a PERFECT day.
