  1. To me, that would kind of defeat the purpose of traveling. I could just drive a couple hundred miles to a nearby beach town and sit around, then go to the amusement area all in relative safety. I cruise for the itinerary.
    You may be lucky, Ate. I don't have a nearby beach town that has that good of an amusement area. The beaches nearby don't have excellent service 24/7. Or all of my meals included. It also doesn't include fantastic entertainment and towel animals on my bed at night. It doesn't have the rocking motion when I sleep at night. So I love a cruise where I just stay on the ship. It is my happy place!

  3. People cruise for different reasons. Some sail in order to visit the ports of call and others sail for the relaxation a cruise provides and some want to do a bit of both. My wife and I are in the relaxation group. We have visited most of these ports multiple times and we certainly enjoy having the ship to ourselves and others who feel the same. An added benefit is that there is no problem getting deck chairs on port days. :cool: One isn't better than another --- it's just personal preference. The key is to enjoy your vacation no matter how you do it.

    I am with you, too Danbee :-) I cruise to relax and have things taken care of for me! LOL! To me, it isn't the same as just "driving to a local beach" for a vacation. My local beach doesn't have excellent service. Or all of my meals included. It doesn't include fantastic entertainment and towel animals on my bed at night. It doesn't have the rocking motion when I sleep at night. So I love a cruise where I just stay on the ship. It is my happy place!

  4. Thank you, Jimmy and Amanda! I watched a lot of your videos and they made me so excited for my trip on the Divina in May. I really appreciated all of your info. You both look like a lot of fun! Hope to see you on a cruise someday :-)

  5. Arrrrg!:mad: Not at you OP - but at Carnival. I see you are on the Pride - six months after us. I am booked on the Pride in March 2015 and they don't have excursions listed yet. Well they do have one - the Sea and See in St. Maarten. That is it, almost as if it is a placard or something. Our cruise is the 2 week repo and that might have something to do with; but geez, they could at least release the FTTF.:rolleyes:

    Hi, ferfoodle! I would recommend that you check again today! I have a September 2015 cruise on the Pride, and I was able to get FTTF today!! Good luck :)

  6. I had the same question as you, bitsnscraps. I really wanted the FTTF most of all. I am sailing on the Carnival Pride September 20, 2015 and booked it over a month ago. Well, I have been stalking it daily to see when the excursions would show up. This morning, the Faster to the Fun finally showed up, and I purchased it right away.

    If I were you, I would keep stalking the site daily so you can have first choice! Good luck :)

  7. What works best for me is using the Search tab. Click search, and then type Single Occupancy. It will then give you a link for the Single Occupancy Sale.

    I did it for my last cruise in April, and it was amazing to pay no supplement :-) Usually the sale is for just the next few months of cruises.

    Good luck!

  8. Sounds about my typical day on board. I have similar stats, mid 40's, no kids, single. Like you, I have always seemed to cater to everyone else's likes, wants, needs, etc....this year I said enough. I booked a week on a catamaran by myself and just enjoyed...it was WONDERUL, I didn't have to take care of everybody's travel plans, only my own. I have done two vacations since then, and am realizing how much others expect me to plan their days and figure out the details, etc. I just booked a solo cruise (Carnival Freedom June 1), I can't wait to do what I want or do nothig when I want.

    I was on the Pride last year for a little 2 day cruise when it got stuck in Port of Baltimore after Sandy. Nice little ship, showing a little wear and tear, but overall good experience.

    Hi Mel!! I hope you have a great time on the Freedom! I agree with you about Pride, though she will be dry-docking this fall, so I will get to sail with the upgrades :-) I am dying to try Guy Fieri's Burger Joint!! You will have to tell me if traveling solo is as amazing as I think it will be. I am okay eating alone (I have my Nook Color with me at all times as I love reading), but I imagine that I will want to have dinner with people. Usually, I have traveled with family. My last cruise, I found myself being irritated that I had to wait to meet family for meals, and my parents said they "couldn't find their way" so I always had to escort them everywhere. I love them, but can't wait to be able to meander and never look at my watch except for the activities *I* want to do!

    I look forward to hearing about your time!

  9. Sorry for the re-posting, but the format of my 1st turned out wrong and hard to read!

    Hi -- I know I am starting this discussion SUPER early. However, I cannot contain my excitement. This will be my first solo cruise. It will be on the Carnival Pride Sept. 20-27, 2015 sailing out of Baltimore, Maryland. I am from Virginia, so this cuts down significantly on my costs as I can drive there. I am single, no kids, and love to travel, especially by ship! As many of you probably can relate, I have spent my last 7 cruises catering to other people's agendas and itineraries. I enjoyed my sailings, but I cannot say how excited I am to travel by myself. That said, I am very outgoing and social, and would love to meet other solo passengers (or fun couples/groups) to dine with or enjoy all of the amazing evening activities. To get a sense of how I enjoy my days onboard:

    * Wake early

    * Enjoy sunrise on my balcony

    * Get coffee

    * Lay in hammock (if not taken) on Serenity Deck and read

    * Go to breakfast when hungry

    * Sit by pool most of day (or bingo/trivia if weather is ugly)

    * Have pre-dinner wine or cocktail

    * Enjoy dinner

    * Go to evening show

    * Casino

    * Evening Comedy Show/live music

    If anyone is interested in any of the above or in this sailing, let me know. I love to plan way ahead as then I have something to look forward to!

  11. Hi there! I'm Tracey and I took the plunge and booked my first solo yesterday. My first solo trip ever! Eeepp! I figure after the last 2 years of spending my vacation healing from an accident and watching my father pass away from bone cancer, I'm taking this chance to escape reality. Granted I'm not escaping for another year but it's something to look forward to. s a 40 something single mama...I deserve this. 've been on another message forum before and have met some wonderful and amazing people and I am still friends with quite a few of them. I do hope that will be the case this time. Even if we aren't sailing at the same time there is always the chance of sailing on another trip because I don't intend on only taking one cruise. Looking forward to meeting y'all or at the very least making some great online friendships. :)

    Hi Tracey,

    I, too, and in my mid-40s but have no kids. However, all of my previous vacations have involved juggling other people's needs and desires above my own. So, I, too just booked my very first solo and I am over-the-top excited. Again, like you, mine is not till 2015 (September -- how am I going to wait?!?!?!) But in the future, I would love to travel with fun other solos, particularly for poolside chat buddies and fun dinner companions. And fellow casino troublemakers if so inclined! LOL!

  12. Second solo! Loved the first, but I really do have to learn to talk to more people!

    Have heard so many people with good things to say about this ship, had to book it to see for myself.

    Wanted the itinerary with Half Moon Cay, another thing that gets rave reviews. Can't wait!

    Hope the other lines follow Carnivals lead and make these solo sales easy to find.

    Hi! I am booked for a solo on the Pride... but not for a long time.. September 2015! ARGH! But I just went on the Pride earlier this month and loved her. Not sure how I am going to wait the next 500+ days. I hope you will post a review of your experience. Also, I would strongly encourage you to eat at David's Steakhouse. It is work the money. I know that even if I wind up eating there with just me and my Nook Color, I am doing it ;-) LOL! Have a great time!

  13. I am sailing on the Pride this upcoming Sunday, March 30. Your review is really making me excited. I splurged on a balcony room, and I expect I will do just as you did... decaf coffee at night and sitting on the balcony with my Nook :-) My parents will be in the room next door, and we have requested that they remove the partition between our rooms outside. So maybe we will have a pseudo "extended deck" too! :)

    I look forward to reading the rest of your review!

  14. OMG!!! It pays to goof off at work reading Cruise Critic!! LOL! I booked a 7-day cruise on Carnival Pride for March 30-April 6, 2014. When we booked the cruise, I was told that as a single passenger, I would have to pay double. Thus, I paid over $1800 to have a balcony room on the same hallway as my family members. Well after reading your posts, I went on the Carnival website and saw that my sailing had a single supplement sale! I then called Carnival, and they were so great and returned almost $900 of it to me. You all saved me much money and I can't thank you enough! I told the Carnival Operator that probably this money will go back to Carnival anyway... we are going to David's steakhouse, and now I can spend time in the spa!! LOL!

    Thanks, again, everyone!!
