  1. We are taking a 3 week holiday in the spring next year.

We plan to buy 2 litres of duty free spirits at our departing airport.

During our 4 night stay at a hotel prior to our Celebrity cruise we will probably drink some of the Gin/ Whisky purchased.

Please can you tell me what will happen to the remaining Spirits when we board the ship?

    Also

Is it best to pack them in our hand luggage or our big case?

NB we have the Classic beverage package so no intention of consuming our Duty Free once on board.

    I await your replies.

    Many thanks.

    Swabs.

Either drink it all or leave it for hotel staff. They'll love you.

Not only is it unlikely you'll be able to bring it on the ship, since it's already open, but it's unlikely you'll get it through security going home. No way can you take it in your carry on, and do you really want open bottles of liquor in your checked luggage?

  2. How is celebrity for people in there late 30s

That depends on the person. If you want a real party atmosphere, modern dance club music, lots of activities, that's not Celebrity.

If you just want to relax, sit around the pool, watch a few shows, then it's just right. There's plenty of music, just not heavy rock, rap, or electronic. Think classic rock, pop, that type.

If you're late 30s, you'll probably be some of the youngest people on the ship, depending on the cruise. Shorter cruises probably shift a bit younger than the general Celebrity demo, because it's easier to get vacation.

Like I said, depends on the person.

  3. If you want scissors, get a cheap pair of folding travel scissors. I have a pair, never been a problem. They're TSA approved, small, and when folded don't even look like scissors. I think I got mine at a dollar store somewhere. Or maybe a craft store. Regardless, they were only a couple bucks.

You should be able to buy a cheap corkscrew on board, they have souvenir ones. Or get a very cheap travel one, they should be easy to find in most wine/liquor stores.

The good thing about those is if they do get confiscated, no worries - they're cheap and easy to replace if necessary.

  4. Was looking at November 2018, we just want to relax. Have enough SWA points and we stay at Hilton and have about 200,000 points. We don’t drink, mostly soft drinks.

Then you might want GoBetter, get tips and OBC. The OBC would cover a premium non-alcohol pkg, or the bulk of it. Then you could have all the soft drinks, juices, coffees, waters, etc that you wanted.

Airfare and hotel wouldn't be an issue for you, good for you!

Costs are probably going to be similar. RCI might even be cheaper, considering you're looking at an older ship. But if you really just want to relax, Celebrity is great. That was the thing I liked best about it - I didn't feel I had to 'do' a lot of things on the ship.

  5. I was looking at either the Brilliance going to Cozumel/key west or the infinity going to the same place

Do a comparison - I usually find a few cruises on different lines, same length, same time frame, similar itinerary.

Do a mock booking. Similar room types. Then I set up a spreadsheet. Celebrity gives you a lot of options for included perks - balcony cabin with drinks, tips, internet, OBC is what I pick. Then I add any airfare required to get to the port (rough estimate), any hotel required (ditto). If the other lines don't include those things, I estimate what it would cost to add them.

Then I'm comparing apples to apples. Otherwise a cruise might look really cheap - until I tack on drinks, tips, and the OBC and internet that's included with Celebrity.

If it's a really nice ship, or has a lot of things that I want (RCI often does), I might go with that even if it's a bit more overall.

For shorter cruises, Celebrity doesn't have a lot of options. That might tip it to another line.

The other thing is that Celebrity is a lot more relaxed/laid back - less of a party atmosphere (at least to me), less activities. No mini golf, no rock wall, no flowriders, ice rink, zip line, not even on the largest ships. If that's important to you, take that into consideration.

If you get the full GoBest package, it's a good deal IMHO. But you do have to compare everything that's included to make a valid comparison.

  6. Hello! In 2020 we will be celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary and would like to treat our family to either a “Western” or “Eastern” Mediterranean cruise on the Reflection (our first time cruising on Celebrity cruiseline). We have cruised on several lines and our favorite, so far, is the beautiful HAL’s Konningsdam. This Feb. we will be trying out Oceania’s Riviera! BUT, our grandsons will be 14 and 16 in 2020 and we thought the Celebrity might be geared more to a younger, adult crowd and also offer a little bit more for the boys to do than the other lines we’ve grown to appreciate.

My question is......does the Reflection have any suites with two bathrooms that would accommodate my daughter/husband and their two sons a little more comfortably? Keeping the cost in mind....we even thought why not secure an interior cabin for the boys and then across the hall, a balcony cabin for my daughter/husband. We have one more (single) daughter so we are talking accomodations for seven people and of course, want to get the most bang out of our buck.

Any comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

I'm not sure there'd be much on the Reflection that would interest teen boys. You might want to look into one of the large family suites on RCI. Those have 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sofabed in the living room, and a huge balcony. Sleep 6 easy. And there's tons more for the boys - rock climbing wall, mini golf, flowriders, etc.

The older ships would be reasonable. We took our son and his wife and son for a Christmas/birthday/anniversary present one year. It was not a bad price, all things considered.

  7. I'm trying to figure out what you're taking that would require that much pressing.

I can see some formal wear needing pressing - we always send out my husband's dress shirts (all 2 of them ;)) because he wants them really nice. My formal wear never needs pressing, it's usually something that doesn't really wrinkle (and it's VERY formal - satin, taffetta, sparkles, the works), and jeans, shorts, tshirts, tanks, etc usually don't need pressing anyway. Even if you would press them at home, relax! It's a vacation. A few wrinkles won't hurt anything :D

Even linen or silk doesn't necessarily need pressing - I've taken those plenty of times. Hang or fold them nicely, make sure your suitcase is fully packed so they don't shift, wait until the last minute to pack them, and hang them as soon as you get your suitcase. Most of the wrinkles (what few there are) will hang out, and besides - linen wrinkles when you sit down anyhow. Silk isn't quite as bad.

Most men's suits won't wrinkle much if you have a decent garment bag. My husband has a 'travel' suit that's mostly polyester, it never wrinkles.

  8. Has anyone been on these excursions? What are the baths like?

Excursion 1: A Day Trip to Nevis With Lunch. 6hrs $186. CAD (Baths in this one)

Excursion 2: St Kitts Catamaran Sail and Nevis Beach and Get Away. (4 hrs 30 min) On Sale for 129.00 CAD

The Canadian prices will seem high to Americans.

We did the day trip to Nevis last Nov. It was very nice. Tour of the island, lunch at the beach, a few hours on the beach. Nice boat ride.

Lots of options for nice pics, not a lot of places to spend extra (which was fine with me). Some walking, not super strenuous though.

  9. There is a large group of us going for Christmas and we want to be as silly as possible. Anyone have any creative slogans for a fun shirt for the family?

    Thanks!

If you're cruising the Caribbean, there are Christmas Hawaiian shirts, they're great fun and really different. Come in all sizes too. I got them for everybody when my daughter was stationed in Guam and we went for Christmas.

Not as cheap as t-shirts, but different. I found them on Amazon.

If you want to get shirts made, how about 'All I got for Christmas was this ship'?

  10. I used the link yesterday and it appeared to work. It said there were 35 registered although it did say as of December 13 even though it is currently November. Maybe Miami is on the other side of the international month line from us here in NC.

Well, it's really broken now. Dropdowns don't work, and if you just hit the submit button without entering anything, it gives you the detailed server error info.

    It DEFINITELY shouldn't do that.

And for me, on the main page NOTHING works. Not menus, no links at the top except for check in, which goes to the old look - which works fine.

Come on guys - it's been MONTHS. At least fix the links when you do get logged in (which don't work half the time), and for Pete's sake set up some redirects so the OLD links you have in emails go somewhere useful. Last email I got had 3 links, and they were ALL wrong.

I used to do this for a living, and trust me - setting up redirects is easy, easy easy. And when we did anything that was going to change how URLs got generated, that was the FIRST thing I asked everybody in marketing to give me, because the last thing you want is a bunch of marketing materials that have bad links.

  11. I was wondering since X doesn't have formal nights but now 'Chic Nights'...do some ladies still wear long dresses...not really formals but long nice cocktail type dresses? Or are mostly worn those nights short cocktail dresses?

ALso how many men still wear dark suits? Will my DH be out of place wearing his entire suit or should he just wear the pants with a long sleeve button down shirt with a tie?

    Thanks in advance.

I wear a long dress, lots of bling, and my husband usually wears a suit, but no tie. I like to dress up, so I'll take any chance I get. And we tend to get pics those nights.

  12. You had the "El Don Julio"' date=' it's my favourite in WCB.

    Others I like:

    "Don Julio Paloma" (refreshing)

    "Bulleit Infusion" (strong, fruity, spicy)

"Zacapa Above The Clouds" (after-dinner, smokey)

    My wife's favourites:

    "Tropically Your's" (coconut, pineapple)

    "Sailor's Crush" (pineapple, mint, lime)

    "Strawberry Fields" (Strawberries, grapefruit, bitters)

    (y)[/quote']

When we were on the Reflection last year the WCB was our favorite hangout. I made it my goal to try every drink at least once. Since my nephew and his wife are Don and Julie (and got married in Cancun, and gave all the guests 'Don Julio' shirts), all the Don Julio drinks were the first I tried.

All the drinks are good, I liked most of them. My husband likes bourbon, so he got the Bullit Infusion. A couple of the drinks are over the limit for the premium pkg, but not by much.

Can't wait to check out the WCB on the Equinox

  13. Hello

I am new to cruising having avoided this as I get travel sick. I used a travel agent and she suggested an upgrade to cabin 9226. I have since been told to avoid anywhere near the funnel as I will hear the engine and feel a vibration. Is this so? Can anyone advise me as it’s a lot of money and I’m considering cancelling.

    Many thanks

    Joy

If you can travel by any other means, you'll be fine. There's less noise and vibration on a cruise ship than on any other mode of travel, by far.

  14. This is my first cruise on X, 2nd cruise ever. We are less than 2 months out and have not heard from X concerning E Docs.

When do usually receive them ?

We leave 12/2 and we just got ours today.

  15. Yes they are. For US passports the city of issue is not listed anywhere in your passport book. I've always assumed that it was the city to which I mailed my passport renewal information. Since I just renewed my passport this year and mailed the renewal application to Philadelphia, PA (which I have always mailed it to in the past)I assumed it would be that and Philadelphia is what I entered in the past. Since I had to enter the new passport information for my upcoming cruise online check in I called the US passport office and inquired about the city of issue. The person I spoke with had me count back several symbols from the bottom line of code on the bottom row of the picture page. I read the code numbers and they told me that my passport was issued in Charlotte SC. My husband's was issued in Portsmouth, NH! The only way for anyone to know for sure is to call the passport agency. Since my previous passports all probably had the wrong City of Issue listed, I guess for US passports it doesn't much matter what you enter. The question may matter more for passports issued to passport holders from countries other than the US.

There are 2 places where passport info is requested - under your profile/immigration documents, and when doing online check in.

If you enter it under profile/immigration documents, they DO as for city (and they ask for country 3 times, and the country list is wrong). BUT you don't have to put it there. You get asked for it in online check in, and there they DO NOT ask for city. That's also the only place you really need to worry about entering it.

Maybe if they ever get the website fixed correctly, they'll fix the profile piece. I'm not holding my breath.

  16. Anyone managed to upgrade a cabin without paying more due to price drops.

Our current cruuse has droped a huge amount, so that aqua cabins are £800 less than our invoice price, for a guarentee balcony.

If we cancel we lose the $300 OBC and our £300 deposit, but will they upgrade us if we don't cancel.

Call and ask. It never hurts to ask.

Is that price including all perks? If it's not, you might be able to upgrade AND get all perks for a minimal increase. I'm sure they'd let you do that.

  17. I'm a little confused about how I'd be able to upgrade for very little. Please elaborate :D

It's pretty easy. Go to any travel site, and pretend book your cruise (we're doing the same itinerary and ship Dec. 2), and see what the cost would be for the same type of cabin and perks. If it's less, or you can get a better cabin/perks for only a few dollars more, make note of it and call your TA so they can see if you can get it.

We originally booked with an obstructed view balcony with go best (I think 2c), but when I checked later a Concierge Class with go best was only $40 more - so I called and got the upgrade. You DO have to check regularly, and since you used a TA they'll need to contact Celebrity, not you directly.

But it's very possible, this isn't the first time I've done it. Make sure to check for any senior/military/police discounts you might be eligible for as well. They don't always have those, but it never hurts to check.

And enjoy your cruise! This will be our 8th, on 3 different lines. We love it, I think it's the best vacation value around.

  18. I noted that my Eclipse cruise 03-18-18 the price for our cabin dropped $600 since we booked it.

Celebrity does not give me any information because I booked with a TA they only tell me call to your TA.

Call your TA and tell them what you found. If you have a specific cabin in mind (do a test booking to see what's available) tell them to ask for that.

If it's the same package, you should be able to keep it. It's also very possible you can get a much better cabin (better location, etc) for the same price you had been paying.

We didn't use a TA for this upcoming cruise, but when I noticed prices had dropped I call Celebrity and went from an obstructed balcony to Concierge Class for $40 (total, not per person). Same go best perks, but a MUCH better deal overall.

If I'd used a TA I would have told them and they would have called, but that's the only difference. On previous cruises where I did use a TA, that's how it works. You tell them, they call.

  19. Oh no. Has anybody experienced this? I booked through a TA and paid my deposit. Got confirmation email with link to pre-register. I can't' date=' it won't let me. It says I have a booking "on hold" that will expire in 24 hours! Tried to call TA. Closed on Sundays. Called Celebrity who was nice, but not able to talk with me because I booked with TA and "must go through the travel agent.

I've booked a pre-cruise hotel as well as airfare to and from, and travel insurance. I called TA, left voicemail, and sent email. Don't know what else I can do.

Is this standard procedure? My first cruise with Celebrity, but have used this agency many times in the past without issue. Maybe new agent doesn't know proper codes.

    I'm bummed. :([/quote']

Pre-register for what? You shouldn't have to do anything, except maybe sign up for Captain's Club. Do you have a confirmation/booking number? You should be able to look up your booking using that, though you won't be able to make payments since you used a TA.

  20. I understand completely, but at the same time, I'm a bit bummed. St. Martin was the reason we chose this itinerary. We've also been to St. Kitts before, so I think I'd like to do an excursion to Nevis. Anyone have any suggestions to that effect? Thanks.

We did the excursion to Nevis when we were on the Reflection last year. Very nice. Not real strenuous, lunch was good, beach was awesome, the tour around the island was interesting. Nothing better than lying on the beach in Nevis listening to the soundtrack of Hamilton. :D

It's a nice day out. We did the ship excursion just so we'd be sure to be back in time. It was worth it for the peace of mind.

  21. Have you looked into flights from MCO to FLL? I know we did that once. My daughter and son in law were running the Disney marathon, we stayed at Disneyworld for a few days, then flew to FLL for the cruise. Southwest was the only one flying it, I think.

If you're using miles for the other flight, it might be the cheapest way to go. REntal car would be a serious hassle, and likely cost as much as a flight, provided you can find one.
