  1. I was on the Encore Christmas week and masks were required while inside.  Once you were at your table or at the bar, you could take the mask off.  Outside was pretty much a free for all.  The casino was probably 50/50, although the pit boss would tell people periodically to put their mask on.  I would guess if numbers on Norwegian ships rise they will become stricter.  I have to wear a mask for work so I was looking forward to a week without them, but honestly it was not a big deal.

  2. No plan B for us! We leave out of New Orleans 3/22 and I’m taking extra meds and my laptop just in case.

But I do wish everyone would think beyond the immediate and remember that these companies would be crippled if they let everyone rebook to a later cruise. Same reason the airlines are not waiving change fees unless it is to those international hot spot cities. Think about this...if they just let people rebook, ships would probably be sailing at let’s say at 50%. But the cost for crew and actually operating the ship does not change. If they flat out cancel all cruises for say 6 months then they still have crew contracts they have to pay. If they don’t pay out the contracts then those crew don’t earn money. That’s 250,000+ people. Either way they are operating at a major loss. The ports who depend on the cruise industry also lose tons of money. It’s just a bigger problem than one individual. 🤷🏼‍♀️

  3. I leave March 22 and no way I’m canceling. So I say go and enjoy! From what I’ve read the ship wasn’t supposed to dock until Saturday so they aren’t actually stuck at sea right now. Unless people are sick or were on the prior cruise, people aren’t quarantined in their cabins. The tests results for those being tested will be done tonight and if any are positive they will decide the best way to disembark. I really don’t think they will repeat the diamond princess fiasco and keep everyone in the Petri dish. That certainly didn’t work.

Thanks.  I may have missed it , but what is your advice re: what PAX should do or use ?  I value your advice as always.

The CDC website will lead you to the EPA website which gives a list of what will kill norovirus.  It basically comes down to alcohol does not kill it so you need bleach or hydrogen peroxide based products.  Hospital grade probably guarantees it will kill it but I'm just going off what I've read on the EPA website.  Most hand sanitizers are alcohol based.  I'm on the 12/15 sailing so I'm reading as much as I can find on this!

According to another post concerning the previous cruise there were 3,602 passengers with a double occupancy capacity of 3,804 with about 50 kids on that cruise. 4,500 would mean 700 third and fourth occupancy folks, plenty of kids.

The CDC reports 3,602 passengers on the last cruise with 127 reported cases of Noro and 6 out of 1,769 crew with it.  It is only reported to the CDC if it is "2% or more of the passengers or crew" (according to the CDC website) so if it's only 40 passengers this week we may never see an official report from the CDC.  Hopefully next week it is totally gone!

  6. I'm on the Joy Dec. 15th and since it is on it's second consecutive cruise with a Noro outbreak (Panama Canal cruise confirmed by CDC, current week "reported" on social media but obviously not on CDC website yet), I appreciate the tips.  I can't see carrying around gloves, but I will carry wipes with me that are on the EPA list of disinfectants that kill Noro (https://www.epa.gov/sites/production/files/2016-06/documents/list_g_norovirus.pdf) and obviously wash my hands all the damn time.  My fear is getting noro at the beginning of the cruise and being confined to the cabin for the entirety!  So we will wipe down the cabin and be very vigilant about what we touch.  I agree with Deeliteful - how in the world do they disinfect ALL of the casino chips between cruises?  Does anyone know what they do in that area?  My husband plays a lot of blackjack!

  7. Great thread! Not sure how odd these are, but they are definitely different than a regular land vacation for us...

*Silly games with the family, whether it’s bowling, arcade games, ping pong or putt-putt

*The UPB which lets me try drinks that sound good, and ordering something else if I don’t like them

    *BINGO! Yes it’s a rip-off but it’s one of our must-do’s on a cruise!

    😊

  8. Ship - Epic

    Deck - 8

    Stateroom # - 8210 and 8212

    Stateroom Category – B1

Starboard or Port Side - Aft

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – As far as noise outside the cabin, it was very quiet.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – Aft - awesome view!

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Nice big balcony - had one lounger, a chair and a small table.

Was wind a problem? - No

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - No

Any specific problems with this cabin? - When docking you definitely feel the rumble of the ship. We also had a really windy day and could feel the rumbling all day.

    Any other comments? -

  9. Staff-We ran into all bunch of super nice staff members. Our stateroom attendant Norman was awesome. Julie in Cagneys and Nestor at the Spice H2O Bar were also great and helped make the trip fun.

Ports-Grand Cayman is always a good place to visit, although all stingray excursions were cancelled because of the seas that day. Obviously I loved GSC. I don’t care for Falmouth just because it’s such a long drive to get anywhere! Tendering was efficient at both of those stops.

Bars-Loved Maltings and Shakers. The pool bar was always crowded and you had to wait to get a drink for a few minutes. Shocking, right? I was amazed at how many people complained about that with 5,000 other people on board. It was never more than a few minutes wait.

Slides-Super fun! Aidan and I did all 3 after GSC and the bowl slide wins hands down.

Food-Garden Cafe was always great for breakfast and good for lunch. No complaints there. O’Shees is good bar food. The speciality restaurants were all fantastic!

  10. Parting thoughts on the week...

The ship - having the Escape, which I love, as a comparison, the Epic was just okay for me.

Bathrooms-Yes, the bathroom layout is weird, but we knew that going into it. It was more an annoyance than anything else.

Ship flow-The overall layout and flow of the ship was a bit weird for me. I think if decks 5-6-7 are going to be that main area, you should be able to access all three decks from the aft and forward stairs. The port side aft stairs take you to crew access only on deck 5. After a week I still could not remember where everything was on those decks except for O’Shees.

Elevators-Having only 2 sets of elevators, fore and aft, was fine with the stairs/elevators in the center.

Casino-The casino is gigantic so if you want to avoid the smoke (really only bad at night), go across on deck 7. The night we ate at Taste we were seated in the center section that you look down on and I went to bed that night with my eyes stinging. Smoke basically doesn’t bother me unless it is directly in my face but that night it was a bit much.

Pool deck-The two pools in the main pool area were tiny and they were packed with kids the entire week. I only get in the pool if it’s super hot so that’s just an observation. Not surprising on spring break. Loungers are plentiful on the Epic but on a sold out sailing, most chairs around the pool were reserved by 8 am. Spice was very crowded, too, but not so much reserving of chairs there. That pool is itty bitty but the adults just use it to cool off as opposed to play.

Entertainment-Loved Pricilla and Cirque Dreams. Bowling was really fun (bowled 3 times) even though it takes a whole new level of coordinated to bowl when the seas are rough!

People-For the most part everyone was really nice. We never ran into any obnoxious drunk college kids, or adults for that matter. Not saying no drunk people, just no problem drunk people.
