  1. OMG That's to die for! Fantastic photo. Does it ever happen in late June or early July? We have a cruisetour scheduled for June 23 starting in Fairbanks and ending in Vancouver July 6, 2018.

The aurora in Skagway (at the Pullen Creek RV Park on the waterfront) on August 6th at about 11pm. When there's a strong show like this, the sky doesn't even need to be dark :)

  2. We've travelled with children and we each carry on our own small bag or sometimes carry on wheeled case. It's got swimwear, or change of clothes, makeup etc. Once on board you can go to your cabins immediately, get changed and freshen up before you have lunch and explore the ship. Our cases have always been delivered by the time we've had lunch and on occasions are there within an hour of boarding.

It's always been our experience that we cannot get into our cabins for a couple of hours, not right away but that said, it seems to be our luck that we are always delayed boarding because of immigration check of the crew, health inspection, and Coast Guard inspection and this is always before boarding therefore, delaying the boarding and delaying the room access. Last time we hit all 3 inspections, we are lucky NOOOTTT!

  3. I just called for my luggage tags a minute ago and the lady was very friendly and took my information down and said they would be sent out tomorrow morning. It took all of 3 minutes. Janet :D

  4. Does anyone have the phone number of the Captain's Club? We have 24 days till our cruise and I have ordered my tags twice and had not received them. Back in the mid-2000s you didn't have to order them, they were just sent to you.

  5. The Molecular Bar was a bar that just served a menu of craft cocktails. They were pretty cool with interesting ingredients and some flash and flare. It is being replaced by a similar type of concept, just with a different menu. (The contract that Celebrity had with the creator of the Molecular Bar cocktails ran out.)

Totally different place than the Martini Bar, which has iced counters (not in a frozen room). They serve martinis but also a full range of other beverages. A very fun and popular place to hang out!

Thanks for the FYI. Looking forward to experiencing all. :D:D:D

  6. Thanks everyone for your input. We have a Panama Canal cruise scheduled next year and I wondered the very same thing as we were given a classic beverage package. I think that's definitely worth it and we have a good bit of $$ to spend on OBC.

Not sure what the Molecular bar was but what is replacing it? Is that the martini bar in the frozen room? Wanted to experience that with my first martini :D

  7. My husband and I were getting ready to go on a trip to Hawaii with a new travel credit card from Chase Bank and I asked the rep about the RFID technology and having to keep them safe. He said almost no one uses the "old" technology now as far as credit cards goes. The new cards coming out are chips and they have their own protection built into them he said. You don't have to cover them with sleeves or wallets or any of the other protectors he said. They are not scannable. I did read an article I think on Consumers Reports that the Europeans are using pin numbers when using the cards keeping things safer but the US merchants didn't want to go to the trouble of making people remember their 4 digit pin numbers and they didn't want to go through the expense to set up the machines for the pins.

  8. I will be traveling to Maui that day but wanted to ask a couple of questions. I just finished watching the refloating of the Costa Concordia. After $1.2 billion dollars spent not counting the loss of life, how badly has it hurt the Carnival Corporation? Also, how many other cruise lines does Carnival own? Looking forward to hearing your answers.

  9. Ohhhhh ok I tried to figure it out...ok thank you. Yes at times we've had calls from one with HAL but we hadn't gone in that direction yet. We were thinking Panama Canal but I just read that the airfare to Europe has dropped be a use of the higher value of the USD in Europe so we may start looking for a European cruise.

  10. Best way I've found is to find a good PVP through carnival and browse this section for threads like this. Other than that, just monitoring of the "Your Cruise Deals" section you can get to by clicking the link at the top of the carnival website. They don't always email about all of their sales.

Ok. I've cruised about 4 times but not sure what PVP is lol. Some financial considerations have turned around recently and we'd like to start cruising more often after we get back from Hawaii in a month. Thanks for the info Viscus.[emoji4]

  11. Sadly, it's all done and over now. The super low fares were up for maybe an hour last night. Then more plausible ones (that seemed to change every few minutes) were up for the other 23 hours of the sale that ended a couple hours ago.

Oh well but it's interesting to hear about the sales. Maybe I'll get on their email list and look next time they have a sale. Is that how you find the sales?

  12. I have been seasick on almost all of my cruises but I bought the wrist bands at Wal-Greens with pressure points to wear around the wrists. I never got sick as long as I had them on. I never got sick on smaller boats, go figure. They are cheap, don't wait to buy from the ship store, will cost you 3x as much.

  13. Thank you Suite Traveler,

We cruise occasionally but usually don't fly anymore. We will be going to Maui next year and I am a terrible packer usually bringing 3 of everything just in case. We don't want to pay the baggage fees either because we're flying. You have really helped me thank you. I'm doing a test drive when we go to Vegas for a week.

  14. Hello Radio,

I have never read your threads before but I was perusing CC and found your postings so decided to read since it was live. Just wondering do you do this for fun or is this your job for CC? It's very interesting and really makes me want to cruise the Breakaway although we already have our vacation plans set for next year. Your reporting is really great so we can see and learn about all the great things on the ship. Have you ever done a live report on Panama Canal? My DH and I would love to do that next.

Thank you for your great pics and very interesting report. I'll be reading. Enjoy your cruise.

  15. There are only certain types of plants that are not allowed to be brought into the continental US and apparently I picked one of them up from the palm tree and tried to bring it back with me. I also had my lei that we got married with but when going through the xray they spotted the flower or plant that I had picked up and made me give it up  and it had already started to go bad but everything else was ok. I think it might have been a coconut seed that I picked up on the beach.

We didn't bring flowers on, but we did bring the roses off the ship that came with the Honeymoon package in Hawaii. Didn't try to hide them (not that you could have anyway) and nobody said a thing to us about them. Might be a fluke, might be something special about Hawaii. No idea....
  16. Is it ok to bring fresh cut flowers on board for your room?

When we cruised in Hawaii we bought some exotic bouquets and took them on board for the whole cruise then they were still looking great so we gave them to the lady taking care of our stateroom. Of course Hawaii is in US so it wasn't a problem.
