  1. Food reviews from our group varied. Everyone liked Cagney's but even then two steaks were either under or over cooked. Moderno was a hit with our group except for the over cooked lamb chops. La Cucina was a complete disaster. No one liked the food. the service was pleasant, but the food was salty, the pasta overcooked. The best thing about it was the bread. Since it was my night with the grandchildren, I was not a happy camper. The group loved the Sushi Bar and had lunch there often.

Service in the MDR Summer Palace was slow but we were a group of fifteen and it was the end of the evening, so it was to be expected. Food wasn't great. Our group preferred Indigo for both food and atmosphere. We liked the Outdoor Cafe for breakfast except when it was very cold.

Star Bar and Bar city were favorite gathering places. Sky bar also had its adherents!

Entertainment was very good. Second City was great. Jazz pianist Peter James was outstanding. The comedian Jim was terrific and the other cocktail lounge pianist were also entertaining.

Liked the trivia activities and our group met in various numbers throughout the cruise.

While I loved the Pearl staff, I don't think I am cut out for cruising. Have to see if I am tempted by great itineraries and prices.

  2. Hi all!

I'm a first-timer taking my two kids 12 and 16 to Alaska from Seattle in just a few weeks. How close to the scheduled times do the ships arrive in dock? If they say a 2pm arrival, would I make a 2:30 excursion?

    Thanks!

    Michelle

I just returned and the ship docked early in each port. You can be off the ship thirty minutes after docking. Victoria was the only port where there were long lines exiting the ship.

If you book the excursion through NCL, the excursion will wait for you!

Have fun. I think you will really love the experience.

  3. This was the first cruise I have taken. I thought it would be a great idea to take my family on a vacation. We all wanted to see Alaska so finding a cruise was the answer.

Booking the cruise couldn't have been easier. However, when we went to 8 cabins we became a group. The NCL assigned someone who wrote one email and was never heard from again. No one else provided any information until I contacted group administration and Wanda provided assistance. However, she ws limited in what she could do so booking reservations was difficult.

We did manage though and everyone enjoyed the trip. It is wonderful to have a family that gets along like they do!

As to the Pearl, it has the best staff ever! These people are unfailingly pleasant and helpful. I needed a cane to walk and every time I did the buffet I had offers of assistance. they carried my plate, fetched coffee and sweet rolls, made conversation and smiled!

Eugene was our room steward, and while our only request was for a second robe, he greeted us every day and made great towel creations for our amusement. Manta ray, mouse, monkey, bunny and turtle sat on our couch for the trip.

The balcony cabin is small. I found it very crowded. Yes, you can store things on shelves and in the closet and hide your bag under the bed, but the space between the twin beds was impossibly narrow. My bed was against the wall and I am a restless sleeper so I kept bumping my head or knocking over the telephone on the table between the beds.

I loved the balcony though and would never consider booking an inside cabin.

We decided that everyone was free to do what they wanted and only had two group activities. One was a dinner in Cagney's to celebrate son Pau;l's fiftieth birthday. it was wonderful. They set us up in the private room. The food and drink were wonderful. We ordered a special cake in celebration. Great night.

We went on different excursions. The kids (11,12 and 14), 2 adult grandchildren, five kids, two spouses and one non-family friend are hard to please, but we did it. Two spectacular excursions, Tracy Arm Fjiord and the helicopter glacier tour in Skagway were standouts.

    More later,

  4. Special thanks to Mysticks1 on the Celebrity Cruises forum for this idea. I would like to begin to assemble one for NCL

To the moderators, I would appreciate if we could make this a "sticky" at the top of the page for all to see.

Twice a month - I will try to post a PDF for all the ships and cabin information compiled here.

Please, refrain from posting cabin questions here so this can purely be an informative thread, especially for those that are first time cruisers or seasoned cruisers looking for a great cabin.

    The template is as follows:

    Ship -Pearl

    Deck - 10

    Stateroom # - 10566

    Stateroom Category – Mid-ship balcony

Starboard or Port Side - Port

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Very Quiet

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? -No

Balcony View - unobstructed view. Balcony railing in the way when you were sitting in one of the chairs

Balcony Size? It has a normal sized balcony for the class.

Was wind a problem? -Wind wasn't a problem. Overcast and cold was a problem.

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? -

Any specific problems with this cabin? -It is small. barely enough room for two people.

Any other comments? Biggest advantage for this cabin was Eugene! Great steward.

  5. Thank you for your responses. I did talk to NCL about group and I did get two "perks". The reduced the total fare by the cost of one berth and gave each state room an OBC. The dining arrangement was through NCL group administration as well. The problem is you have to drag information out of them. I don't know if it is because they don't have the information or they are disinterested in helping.:o

  6. What size group r u talking?

8 Balcony staterooms and 16 people. Decided to take the family on a cruise to Alaska.

Managed a group dinner at Cagney's for my son's birthday. Trying to arrange one of the glacier tours for the group.

Can't find one person to deal with for arrangements beyond payments (I don't even want to talk about what I went through!).

Tried to book a hotel the night before we cruise and the night we return but tried to late. NCL tried, but couldn't help us. I had no trouble getting a hotel without NCL, but now have to pay extra to get to the ship and gthen to the hotel when we return.

No real advantage to booking a group and NCL didn't give me any choice once a reached the 8th stateroom.

    Not a great experience.

  7. Has anyone arranged a group on a Norwegian Cruise? I am wondering if there are special embarkation lines for groups or is it every stateroom for themselves? I know everyone has to have the documents checked individually but wondered if there was a special line for groups.

They make it hard to arrange for group. No information. Lots of screw up-some mine-some theirs.

    Any information would be appreciated.
