  1. GREAT question.

So we had booked Rock of Ages for the Thursday at 9pm performance. When we boarded, we were told that we had been re-booked to Tuesday night instead as the Thursday performances had been cancelled. We already had Cirque reservations for that night so we needed to find another time. I called the box office and they confirmed that they still had seats for the Sunday night performance, and (I had forgotten about this) that there is a 25% discount on the first night.

I had jotted some notes during my months of pouring over threads of a suggestion from someone to book Cirque for later in your cruise, then if they're offering the discount switch to Sunday and save yourself some money. So I guess without intending to, I did exactly that.

The first night price online will always show $39pp, but some have reported being able to get the price adjusted once you board.

This show is also complimentary on the first night if you have the ding package..... Just an FYI! Winston... I'm enjoying your review! I was on that sailing with you!

  2. Just off the Breakaway. We bought the UDP. We loved the cruise so much that booked same cabin etc for next May. We were in Haven suite so pay as you go would have been better. We loved Ocean Blue which is not included in the plan. We also enjoyed the Haven restarant, Cagneys and Moderno. We've seen the circus so will skip next time. We'll probably alternate the Haven,Cagneys, Moderno and Ocean Blue and pay as we go. We had Cagneys for room service on our verandah...the meal was amazing!

OT....most amazing Sangria in the bar between Moderno and Cagneys.

I was wondering about your cagneys room service.... If you have the udp, can you order room service from them at any time. Also, when your dining at these restaurants, can you order more than one ontree at your meal without an extra charge?

  3. Keep in mind - there are a few restaurants that don't allow shorts in the evening. The larger aft MDR does not, and neither does LeBistro. I'm not sure if there are more on the newer Breakaway and Getaway. But that leaves the midship MDR and most specialties, along with the buffet, grill & Blue Lagoon.

Does the same rules go for children? Could a twelve year old boy wear a pair of khaki shorts and a nice shirt to dinner inthe main dining rooms on the nights that are not the formal night?

  4. Yes it was an ncl rep that said extra surcharge items are not covered on the udp. She also said only cagneys and le bistro had extra charge items. Thanks for clarifying that is good to know. Do we get 20% off in places like Carlos bakery or Shanghai?

I'm confused... What would be an example of something that would have an extra surcharge?

  5. Our cabin gratuities get added on each day. We have never used the prepay option prior to boarding the ship. We have stayed in a mini suite and a balcony on cruises but we tipped for room service, when there was above and beyond service, and when we had a request and not only was it was taken care of there was also a follow-up to ensure everything was ok. We also felt in some circumstances a little $ present (not tip) for those we had daily contact with and made our trip feel more like coming back home rather than being away from it.

    Thank you for your reply!!

  6. People all have different opinions with tips. I was on the breakaway in a spa balcony. Upon arrival we saw the cabin steward and gave him $20 the first day. I personally gave $1 for each drink I got in the casino (I had a free drink card in the casino). We also left $3 for breakfast and $6 for lunch (if we did not eat in the buffet). We also gave the room steward another $30 at the end of our trip. He was great. We had room service every morning for coffee and gave him $2 or $3. This was all in addition to the DSC that we paid before we even went on the cruise. Also tipped the bag porter on our way in and on our way out. Everyone has a difference of opinion. There is no right or wrong way in tipping preferences although I will say its wrong to not tip your butler if you are in a suite. To each there own as it's said. There were 3 of us in our cabin.

Thank you for your reply! Is 1 or 2 $a bag still a nice tip for the bag porter?

  7. I'm so confused by all this tipping talk.... I thought tipping was done thru the gratuities that you pay so much per person.... I was always lead to believe that you were not supposed to tip until the end.... Who should be getting tips from us, that is not going to be covered by the pre- paid gratuities?

  8. I am bringing back this old thread to see if anyone has been able to successfully upgrade their cabin (pay the difference) and keep the kids sail free promotion recently. I called and spoke to someone at the 1800 number and was told I would lose the promotion if I change category. It looks like people have been able to keep the promo in the past. I don't have a PCC as I was told a PVC booked by cruise, was told it would be no point speaking to her. Should I bother calling back and trying again or is it a waste of time?

I would keep trying... I have the best NCL agent working with us... We also booked the kids sail free promotion and we originally booked an inside room... We are now in a mini suite!!! Don't give up! If you find someone that will help you, get his name and ex. # and ask him or her if they could be your rep! I sail at the end of May and I call every 4 or 5 days and check!!! The kids sail free don't matter.... He just looks for promotions for 2 people....he has been so good to us! Do Not Give Up!!!!

  9. We leave on our NCL Breakaway cruise to Bermuda this coming Sunday. I have read a lot about beach warnings due to possible contaminated water. Is there anyone around the Royal Naval Dockyard (where we are docking) that will be safe to swim? Any beaches that the warning does not apply to? Thanks for any and all help.

There... I have been having this same concern, with all the notices about the beaches! After much consideration, we have been immunized with the Hep.A and the Flu shot, and the Typhoid...

  10. Enjoy your cruise julzluv! Bermuda is a wonderful place :)

Everyone, I have a question and a picture to share. When the Breakaway is docked in Bermuda, what is her water supply? I found a picture while researching, but can't come to a conclusion. Maybe NJhorseman or SBtS can help.

    Thank you in advance.

  11. Enjoy your trip! I see that you are traveling on the Breakaway the week before we are. I hope your family has a wonderful time on the ship and on shore.

    Thanks so much!

  12. This is a great question! I had assumed that there was some treatment of the ocean water that is used in the ship's pools (my kids swam in them many times without giving it much thought), however if the water is treated at all, I am not sure how long it would take before it would be effective.

If you have traveled/cruised to Bermuda/Bahamas/Caribbean before, then I don't know that this is much different than those trips. I was not aware of all of this in the past, and I believe these CDC recommendations for Bermuda may be new than those of the other places mentioned. We generally try to eat on the ship and not in port anyway, but have always gone to the beaches. I was kind of freaked out about all of this when I first read it, but we will not go in the water (I did want to use the hot tubs on the ship) and will avoid eating/drinking on shore. I guess if I was traveling with kids, I would be a bit more concerned, but I don't think it would prevent me from traveling.

I just want thank you all again for engaging in these conversations..... I've been given a lot of info that I need to process.... I am traveling with children. We did get our flu, hep A, and typhoid shots last week...I'm so glad that I saw these posts and was able to prepare ourselves before our trip! I hope you all have wonderful trips, I pray that none of you or yours get sick!

  13. Thank you both for your responses, and the information that you provided.... I am so disappointed about these conditions... I have to admit, I am very nervous about letting my children in the water... I'm also concerned now about the pool water on the ship... They fill and empty the water in the pool each night, does this mean that the water in the pool will be contaminated? ( we will be docked in the port for three days) this vacation is making me a nervous wreck!!!!

  14. We were already booked (and into the cancelation period) when this came to light, so will just not go in the water at all. Bermuda is such a great destination and there are plenty of things to see and do, so we will just enjoy the other options available. I think if I was booking now, and was already in the cancelation period, I might look at a different destination as well.

Seems silly to be so protective of Norovirus on the ship (which makes good sense) and then go ashore and get into water which the US CDC is advising Typhoid/Hep A shots for.

Do you think it is safe to swim in the water once you are immunized with the typhoid and hep A?
