  1. We sailed the Royal to Alaska on 8/31.  We had an aft balcony and it was SO worth the splurge!

This was our first time on Princess.   Our 10th overall.

We felt many things were positive.

    • They did a GREAT job on embarkation and it was the only time we have had our bags waiting for us by our room when they opened.
    • The ship was beautiful and very clean.
    • Our party loved Matt O. and his staff.
    • The dining room staff members were excellent.
    • Debarkation was seamless
    • Best cruise ship buffet we have ever seen.
    • No constant selling!

    Things we didn't love--

    • Timing of the shows! Two nights we couldn't even get in. We had late dining seating and had zero time to get from the aft dining room to the forward theatre.  This is a deal breaker for me.
    • The production shows were OK but not great.
    • Movies Under the Stars were only offered on the first few nights.  We made plans to go on the last night and they didn't set anything out.

We had a great time and enjoyed ourselves.  Being with family and seeing the beautiful scenery was all that mattered in the end.

  2. We are scheduled to sail to Alaska on the Royal Princess in August.  The group includes myself, husband, daughter, and son-in-law.  The kids are booked in an interior room because it was cheap and they will be with us most of the time.  My husband and I are in Cabin D731(Aft D4 category).  I am preparing to make our final payment and am now second guessing myself that our balcony will not be large enough for 4 adults.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

  3. We were on the April 15th sailing as well. I am so sorry that you and your son got sick. We managed to escape it. I did notice a great effort by the staff to do extra cleaning and such. I noticed at the Windjammer (before the announcement) that they were frequently changing out the utensils.

I too felt very disconnected with the ocean on this sailing. We had an oceanview room but missed being able to sit in a bar or something and enjoy the view. Windjammer was the only place to do that.

We really enjoyed CATS. We did not enjoy the poor audience manners. But I guess when people are on a cruise they feel differently about common courtesy during a show. (And I know this won't change.)

We felt the service was exceptional everywhere we went on the ship. We were looking for the drink cards too.
