  1. Hi All, we are taking a 28 day cruise on the Crown to Hawaii and the South Pacific, the longest cruise we've ever taken. An earlier post talked about taking a DVD player and some cables, etc. and that got me thinking about what special items experienced cruisers take with them on such a long cruise. What are some of your must haves when away from home for so long and what helps to makes living in such a small space comfortable? Thank you, we're beyond excited.

Lots of great info on the Roll Call for the Crown trip to Hawaii and the South Pacific.

  2. Our family had laundry done on the Star Princess. Everything came back in great shape. Some of the clothes were folded and some were on hangers. I usually make two bags of laundry, one for whites and one for darks, but on this trip I had only one bag for everything. As my husband is elite the bag was free, however, we saw the price and we would have been charged $63.00. (Had we been at home this bag would have filled one standard washer.). Love going home with clean laundry!

  3. We were recently an 11 day cruise to Alaska on the Star Princess. There were two days when the casino was made non smoking. There was also one bar designated for smoking. It was enclosed with doors on each side. This allowed the smokers to smoke without the smoke floating throughout the ship. Very nice for all.

  4. Its best to at least give them a heads up with a big group like that so they can prepare.

I agree. We called the day before we wanted to go to Sabatini's to insure getting a large table. We didn't just walk in. We were also celebrating a birthday and wanted to be sure to have a cake.

  5. We took the public bus to Totem Bright. $1.00 per person, $.50 per senior, and free for our three year old granddaughter in each direction. Loved it as we got to talk to many locals. We were told to be sure to tell the driver we were going that far. The driver then told us exactly when he'd be back. We had seats in both directions and never felt crowded. The Star Princess was in the slip furthest from town and the driver let us off as close as possible and told us the short cut back. Well worth the trip. We were also blessed with beautiful weather and didn't even need jackets. Hope your visit will be as good.

  6. We will be travelng with four senior citizens from SF to Alaska and back to SF on the Star Princess. We're traveling on July 17, 2014. Any suggestions on how to make boarding easier for them? Two are in their 80's and they are concerned about having to stand for long amounts of time. Is getting there later in the day better for them? Should we contact Princess? Thank you.

  7. We have used the parking garage in Long Beach numerous times. We have never had more than a five minute wait to leave the garage. However, we get there early and park on the first floor. We disembark in the middle of the process, not early and not late. I think the key is parking on the first floor. On longer than five day cruises we stay at one of the local hotels that have "Park and Sail" packages. This allows us to stay one night and then have free parking. The hotels we stay at have a free shuttle to and from the pier. (We've done this in San Diego, also.).

  8. Sailing to Alaska with our family on the Star Princess. (This will be our first time with them.) Our granddaughter is 3 1/2. What type of ID will we need to take her off and on the ship in the ports without her parents being with us? They'll be going on tours that she's too young to go on. Thanks!
