  1. HI! We are completely new to Norwegian and to doing a flight package with a cruise line.  We are doing the Canada Fall Cruise out of New York.  For those of you that have used cruise flight packages, can anyone tell me what airport Norwegian uses to fly into New York.  Though we usually like to do make our own way to the port, we are trying to figure out if we should use Norwegian transfers since we are using their flight package.

Any suggestions or advice is much appreciated.  🙂

  2. Wow! I have been cruising a long time, but I must live with my head in the sand! This is the first time I have heard of this. I have heard of VIP's coming on board and someone getting moved to a cabin they did not book or want, but not because of overbooking on the cruiseline's part.

This is also my first time on Celebrity and I am very excited. :D My group will be with you, hcat, on the January Sillouette, and we had 3 or 4 booked for months before they gave them a cabin#. We all have one now, but all this talk makes me nervous.

I'm not going to worry overmuch tho...never heard of it before, and hopefully will never hear of it again. (fingers crossed :D)

I do hope the OP and his wife are having a wonderful time. I would have reacted badly to the call, but would put it behind me once all was settled. I sincerely hope they can, too.

  3. We used Mobile passport too - literally 5 mins, no line, no waiting.

Download the app - enter passport info - take a picture - select travelers - select port - fill out customs form - breeze through customs.

The only port offering right now is FLL, but many airports are using it too.

Definitely a great experience for us as well.

    Sheila

    Thank you for your suggestion!

This is the first time I have heard of the Mobile Passport, so please forgive my ignorance ;p ...

I downloaded the app. Do I enter all passport info in now, and then complete it the day we are to disembark?

  4. I buy Pandora charms in each port I visit. Spoon rest and charms are all I buy on vacation.

I have 4 different bracelets and have loved filling them.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

I sometimes buy charms in ports, and I, too, love the ones I have bought. But buying on the ship does not interest me at all. The whole point of the charm is to mean something. Do you feel the same?

  5. I'm enjoying your review thanks! We're on this same itinerary on Aug. 11th.

I've booked a rental car to do the same type of trip ourselves in Skagway where the intent is to drive up to Emerald Lake with scenic stops along the way. Would you recommend stopping in Caribou Crossing for a little bit?

Would love to do a tour with commentary but $184 x 5 people is just too much for us so we're going to try to replicate it as much as possible on our own.

    Any suggestions are welcomed!

We rented a car in May when we were there on the Legend and drove to Emerald Lake. That drive was the highlight of my trip! And I loved everything about this whole cruise, so that is saying something!! :D

If you haven't already, google Murray's Guide..I bought it and printed copies for each of us (6). It is AWESOME! We were able to keep up with where we were all the time by the mile markers. I think I gave like $10 for it or something...can't remember for sure, but it was worth it's weight in gold to us!

We stopped in Carcross and ate lunch at the little sandwich shop place across from the white church with blue trim (can't miss it :)). They make their bread and it was good!

Enjoy!! And don't forget your passports!

    Sheila

    PS...loving the pictures and review

  6. Of course the price will not impact Mom's enjoyment of the tour. The problem is during the planning stage, she is unable to get money out of her head. That is just the way she is, especially after spending thousands of dollars on the cruise itself, two one-way flights, and travel insurance. She also reserved a hotel room and will buy wine on the ship. So all she can think about is the cost of the whole trip piling up. And no, I can't help her out. I can only afford souvenirs and meals at HAL's 2 specialty restaurants (Canaletto and Pinnacle Grill).

Can you see wildlife from the floatplane or only during the landing? The main reason I always thought a cruise would be better than a flight is proximity to animals. This will be our only chance to see whales off the ship.

We flew with Michelle a couple of weeks ago... Agree she and her whole group of people are top notch.

As for seeing wildlife, I saw a bear, but it was soo far away, it was just a little spot lumbering around. Would not have seen it if it had not been a clear area on the ground and the fact that it was on the move.

We also saw Orcas... SCORE! ... but altho she circled low and we could see them plain as day, it was nothing like being in the boat whale watching.

Good job on you doing your research...it's a little tedious working thru all the information and opinions, but it will be worth it in the end.

    Have fun!!

    Sheila

  7. Thank you for posting the review! I was with you on the cruise - I took pictures at the meet and greet :p - and it was wonderful to go back thru it all with you this way. Your pictures are so good and I loved your choices for posting.

I was one of those that had Alaska cruising on the bottom of bucket list - but fate intervened and Moma had it at the top of hers - so a Mother/Seester cruise was born! And I am soooo glad it was! One of my top 3 cruises!!

Thanks to BudgetQueen and several others, especially Jennifer B, for all the great information and advice.

We did a few things different than the poster of this review, and I will post them below. I wish we would have had time to do a couple of things he did too!!! :D

    Just FYI -

Juneau - we did Fishing, Whale Watching, and Wildlife Expedition...And went to Mendenhall Glacier (did the 40 minute walk)... then back to town for Red Dog Saloon and Tracy's King Crab Shack food.

Skagway - Rented a minivan from Avis for 6 people, bought and downloaded Murrays Guide off the internet and followed it up the Klondike Highway to Carcross. Awwwwwwesome! Some people say you can see a lot of the same views as the White Pass Train...of course, we just took our time doing it.

Ketchikan - Island Wings Floatplane to Misty Monument Fjords and back to town for the Lumberjack Show. Never made it to Creek Street - Dang! Guess we gotta go back!!! :D:D

We also did the small boat excursion in Tracy Arm Fjord - definitely worth the money!

Thanks again for the review! Maybe we will see you next time! Gotta take my hubby back to see all he missed! LOL!

  8. I have been cruising with Carnival for 16 years and have never needed it before, but I feel the need to write a note of complaint to Carnival for an issue with my cruise a couple weeks ago.

Could someone please give me the email address to use for complaints ... and compliments too, of course. :)

    TIA,

    Sheila

  9. We have a fisherman with us, and are trying to nail down if there is a fishing tour out of Juneau, Ketchican, or Skagway for him.

We will be cruising May 18-26 - will they be ready for fishing then?

Thank you for any help you can give me. :)

  10. Every once in a while, I will see a post that mentions the Lumberjack shows, but I haven't seen any specifics on them...like which ports they are in and when they are performing, etc...

Can anyone shed some light on these for me? I would love to see a Lumberjack show!

  11. I want to give kudos to the person that started this thread and all who have participated!

This will be our first trip to Alaska, and I was simply overwhelmed with all the choices. Then I found this thread. I printed off every post and went thru them making notes on a sheet for each of my ports. That gave me a base to start asking questions to know what would interest my group the most. I am still in the asking question mode, but have narrowed it down considerably.

Thank you again, and when I finish our itinerary, I will definitely come back here to post it in case it might help some other poor overwhelmed soul! :D:D

  12. Irie Tours in Curacao! They are awesome! We used them for a large group for a day trip and another large group for an afternoon trip. Wonderful people to work with. They will make recommendations and also customize your trip for you if you want.

Imho, Curacao is one of the prettiest places in the Caribbean. Of course, as I think of each island, I can think of at least a dozen other beautiful spots!! :p

  13. I have so many favorite photos, I just cannot make myself choose one over the other...But these make me happy.....

This one never fails to make me laugh. It is of my BIL and SIL at Senor Frog's in San Juan.:D
