  1. Our cruise last week on the Getaway only had the berries version. I bought a bottle of the original Sheridan's in Costa Maya at the duty free liquor store closest to the ship(literally the first building, right next to where excursions line up). It was $26 I think, and two for $44 or $45 if you buy two.

I was worried about putting it in my check in luggage flying home as last time we got some(in St Thomas) TSA opened it. They actually twisted the cap and broke the seal, then left the pointless note in the luggage saying it was "inspected". Sure enough, this time again they "inspected" it, but at least didn't break the seal. Although, they didn't wrap it as nicely as it was and it did leak a tad, I think the top got jarred to the side and it leaked from around the glass to plastic seal.

If you are flying out of FLL, the duty free store in there had it. It was more expensive, a little over $30 I think, but I would have bought it there to carry it on if I knew it was available. MIA might have it too, might be worth checking on your way to a cruise to know if you can get it on your way home.

  2. Now I am really starting to get paranoid! I called Monday as well for our June 5th sailing and they told me no upsells were available for the Havens or anything for that matter. I'm in a inside guarantee, first time with NCL.

Is you ship the Breakaway for the June 5th sailing?

From what I have heard and what the reps have told me, they generally will not offer anything to inside cabins until very close to the cruise. I had an inside and a mini suite, I got offers for the mini suite every time I called but they always said there is nothing for the inside. Until 5 days before the cruise, then they offered the inside an upsell to a spa mini suite(not Haven).

  3. Well, I had just about given up and hadn't called since May 4th. I was about to call the main NCL number to buy both cabins spa passes and decided I would try one more time with the upsell department.

I finally got someone who knew what to do! She immediately asked if I would like her to "link" my two cabins as they were not, once she did that she placed me on hold to ask for special permission to upsell the inside cabin. She came back and said it was approved. Sadly, there was only one H9(Spa Haven) available, nothing else. She said I would have been able to get both cabins into the 2 bedroom if it was still available... Oh well. :( However, she did manage to get both of our cabins upgraded to Spa Mini Suites, next to each other, for only $300 more than it would have been for the 4 spa passes! I'll take it! With her having to get special permission I didn't even try to bargain.

Five days from now we'll be checking into our spa minis! :D

  4. I called the upsell line this morning and got an H9 Haven spa suite with balcony for $1500 total over my guaranteed balcony. This is our 2nd NCL cruise and also our 2nd cruise on the Getaway. I haven't received upsell emails for either cruise. I'm so excited about trying Haven.

What date are you sailing on the Getaway?

  5. Hi,

A close friend of mine is actually a NCL "insider" and he told me that they (NCL) upsell department start to look at low volume bookings 6 months out and monitor the inventory with a eagles eye...NCL gives offers to booked guests with last names starting with A through M and then after 60 days whatever is left will be offered to N through Z.

its a pretty old school system...i know....also my "insider" said that he in particular search out guests with unique last names which does not follow the alphabet criteria...so if your last name is unique...your in...but again ...this is all coming from an NCL "insider" so you know its true.

    Best,

    Mark

Very interesting information, thank you. Unfortunately my last name is near the end... but it is very unique. So I have that going for me. :p

  6. Is this some kind of strategy you folks play? Buy a lower tier room in the hopes of paying more for an upgrade later - with the gamble that the upgrade will be less than the on-line rate?

Y'all take those upsells. That'll leave our (as yet to be assigned) balcony room eligible for better assignment.

Some people might play the game. I had never heard of an upsell when we booked this cruise. We will be more than happy in our mini suite, as it was a splurge when we booked it anyway. I really just wish our friends could be in something better than an inside.

Either way, you're on the ship and having a good time, right? But why not watch for the chance to make it an amazing experience if the option arises.

  7. Well they must have been upselling like crazy the last 2 days, there are now only 2 H9's and the two bedroom haven available online.

Now I'm hoping for a chance to get into spa mini's. I will have to save the Haven experience for our next cruise when it is just my wife and I. (now I have more reason to book another one soon!):D

  8. I can confirm as well this is incorrect. I'm on the May 8 sailing of the Getaway and had originally booked a guaranteed oceanview. Received our first upsell offer on April 4th. H7, H6 or H5 for $750pp, H9 for $500pp. We ended up taking the H9 on April 14th for $500pp CANADIAN which works out to somewhere around $390 USD.

That must have been amazing. I would immediately upsell all 4 of us into two H9s for the price.

  9. Were you told this by someone at the UPSELL phone number? I am on the DAWN (no haven), went from a balcony to a family suite with balcony then did another upsell to the DOS.

Yes, it is the upsell number. I have gotten offers for the one room but not the other.

  10. That's just not true. I recently grabbed an upsell on the May 29 sailing of the Breakaway to an H9 from a STUDIO. 1200 PP. :)

I was just told AGAIN that only our mini suite could upsell, they cannot combine the reservations(they told me to call the reservations number to try, but I might get stuck with a cancellation fee on the dropped cabin), and that rooms under mini suite level are not offered upsells until 3 days prior and she said it is NEVER into the Haven..... Sure.....

  11. It definitely wouldn't be the first time representatives had wrong information. I have seen a few balcony to haven upsells on my roll call so its definitely possible but I think may be more likely closer to sailing - and my offer was this morning through the upsell dept phone number.

Thanks! We are 20 days out, so we're right in the sweet spot of offers and Haven selling out. When I did mock bookings this morning only the two bedroom showed available, everything else said sold out(but then I still got the offers). I'll wait until later this week or early next week and try again to see if I can get anything for both our rooms.

  12. NCL has told me both times on the phone that the upsells into the Haven are only offered to mini suites and higher....

Our other room is an inside(mid ship, next to our mini). I really would like to just upsell both rooms to spa minis or even balconies, but both representatives I've spoken to tell me they only offer Haven rooms.

Am I just getting bad information?

  13. From what I've heard, they only upsell into the Haven. Three days before the cruise they might(or will?) open up the upsell offers to those booked under a mini suite, but I think it is still just into the Haven. Of course, their offers are probably much higher...

We are in a similar situation as you, except our second room is an inside room. Our mini and inside are steps from each other, and we don't want to give that up. I'm trying to figure out how to upgrade into two spa minis or balconies but it seems steep right now for what it is as an upgrade.

You might consider what we are going to do, just get spa passes. That will give you a nice place to escape to and make you feel like you have something a little "extra".

  14. Sorry for saying the "U" word... Just putting this out there for anyone curious what is being offered. We are on the May 22nd sailing on the Getaway, booked in a mid ship mini suite for $1219 PP.

    Called 4/25 and was offered H4 for $1,500, H5 for $1,000, H7 for $1,000, and H9 for $750.

    I called again today and was offered H4 for $1,250(-$250), H5 for $1,000, and H9 for $750.

The H9 is really tempting, and they would probably take less for it. However we are traveling with friends and they aren't in a mini suite or above and NCL won't offer them anything. We have cabins very close to each other right now and this trip is more about spending time with them, not my wife and I spoiling ourselves and ditching them. Looks like I'll just be getting the spa passes, we sure loved it in there on our last Getaway cruise.
