  1. We're thinking of booking a Cunard ocean view cabin; previously we've had balcony cabins, almost all Cunard. Our window will be just above the water level. I can see that the lowest passenger deck can be a convenient (ie without many flights of stairs) location for the Purser's desk, theatre and restaurant. However, my main worry is about the window. To what extent will we have any sort of view, both because of our low level and also, perhaps, the window will be hard to see through because of waves/spray/salt?

  2. A slightly different alcohol question. We've often cruised Cunard (and P&O), though always from Southampton. We like to take a bottle or 2 of our favourite tipples and of course there have never been any problems at Southampton. This time we'll be boarding our Cunard ship in Dubai; would alcohol be confiscated at Dubai airport?

  3. I've just come back from a short trip on QM2, and whilst on-board I tried to list the physical changes to QM2 since my first voyage in 2006. They were mostly small things that many would miss, others were furnishings, carpets etc. Some obviously have happened to help with the safe running of the ship, or to assist passengers.

But anyone walking around the ship tomorrow would see her largely as she was ten years ago, with a few exceptions.

(I didn't post the list here as there will obviously always be things I've missed/forgotten/not noticed... and some here delight in pulling people up on the tiniest of errors... and two... I didn't want to appear more of a geek/nerd than I do already :o )

    Happy sailings to all :)

Oh do tell; little details would be much more interesting than the usual 'standards have slipped'. Hurrah for nerds!

  4. Hi,

We are doing the sector Dubai to Hong Kong which is 22 nights and we definitely leave the ship on the 21st.

If you are doing a different sector then maybe you leave the next day.

    Not long to go!

I've just checked with our travel agent again, who says that QM2 arrives in Hong Kong 21 Feb and that we stay aboard overnight and "Cunard have confirmed to me that you all disembark on the 22nd February".

  5. Me (ariadne the idiot) again, I am obviously in dire need of this holiday.

The pink dolphin tour leaves from outside the Kowloon hotel..we are staying there :-)

I do hope you can book it. They have said that we can pay cash but need to confirm our booking by 11am on the 21st. I think we berth early morning so that should be okay.

Ariadne - many thanks for the information

  6. Is there really only one laundrette on QM2 (deck 6 starboard aft)? I would expect more laundrettes for so many passengers, but can't find more on the brochure deck plans. I remember about 5 laundrettes on QE last year. When is/are the QM2 laundrette/s likely to be least busy?

It's wonderful to read all the advice from those of you who have travelled before on QM2.

  7. Hi Underwatr.....I hope you are having a wonderful time. I used to think you could only carry one coffee cup per hand......until a nice gentleman showed me how to carry two. Made the rest of the trip a lot easier. Who knew? :D

Brigitte, what's the secret to carrying 2 full cups/mugs in one hand?

  8. We'll be leaving QM2 in Hong Kong on Sunday 22nd Feb 2015 as well. I'm interested to note that you're planning the Dolphin Watch trip because we had wanted to do that but the pick-up is in Kowloon at 8.50am and we didn't think we'd be able to get there in time. Have you and your daughter made other arrangements?

  9. We've booked cabin 11089 on Cunard's Queen Mary 2, travelling east to west. However, I've now noticed that it's directly below the pool area on the deck above, which extends further outward than other decks. I'd welcome your information on how much extra shade a cabin in this area of deck 11 is likely to receive and also whether there are likely to be particularly noisy times each day/night from pool use, deck games, deckchair movement, partying, etc.
