  1. I don’t like to go to the same ports so I usually don’t go on Caribbean cruises. That’s why Europe cruises are better to me. I like going to different countries. If I want to enjoy the ship I would do a transatlantic cruise. Which I do want to enjoy a mega ship but I haven’t because they don’t go anywhere different.

  2. That sucks they wouldn’t let you sleep there. If you are not bothering anyone or indecent who cares? One time I was so sick and drunk I slept on a deck and was not bothered. Very immature then and that was the last time but it was a great sleep. Breeze, smell of air, sounds etc. You can’t replicate that in a room.

  3. I always feel bad for people who get jet lag. I get so excited for a new city or big holiday i can’t sleep going. I slept from nyc to LA (since I’ve been there) then was up my whole flight to AUS drinking and watching movies. Landed at 10a local time. Shuttle to first city. Bags down Bloody Mary by noon. Then just active until I couldn’t handle it anymore. Passed out at 7p and woke up at 8a and was ready to go. Couple people said it. Hydrate hydrate hydrate. Also on the plane set your time to your destination and don’t think “it’s this time at home, I should be...”. I know this is not for everyone but if you can stay up for 20 hours before your plane ride most likely your body is just screaming for sleep, so you will. This is how I am on the way home. Beat from the holiday and exploring and usually not wanting to go home.

  4. Good things to think about @evan and @psych. Will definitely remember all these tips. I don’t like hassle especially when I know I did my job but someone didn’t do theirs. He said/he said is annoying anyway and especially on holiday. These 31 can’t come fast enough.

  5. @coevan it wasn’t carnival per se but I knew someone who was on celebrity very recently and knew this wasn’t the case but someone who was on NCL and said it was (although I think they just got it wrong) but since I am going on carnival and do not know personally people who have been recently I said carnival. @sparks that’s a good point about how many will be in the room.

  6. Thanks. I knew I was right. I shouldn’t have listened to the opposite but I haven’t been on carnival in some time and didn’t know if things had changed or were different from other lines. Thanks all! Good to know!

  7. Hello. I was wondering if anyone can answer a question about towels at the pool situation. How do you go about getting fresh ones and returning them? Is there a fee attached? I have been hearing conflicting stories. Thanks.

  8. Since everyone else is commenting I will too because I’m bored. If wife doesn’t drink even 2 a day it’s not worth it. Can we all just agree even with the package (i will never NOT get it) the cruise line is still WINNING? They over charge anyway for what they pay for the bottles. As I said on ship mate, If you live in a place that A drink costs $15 and a craft brew $9 and you go out only 3 times a month even just getting 2 then you are used to paying that and it’s VERY much worth it. If you live in a place that a double is $8 and 2 beers for $5 then it may seem like a lot and not worth it. So it’s definitely over priced and just like gambling the house always wins but you will have fun trying to beat them. I get stuff I would NEVER try at home just so I know. I NEVER eat two entrees at home either but I do when cruising. I don’t eat dessert every night but I do cruising. So again if your wife doesn’t drink it’s definitely not worth it. If you were going with another couple I know people have put the drinkers “together” in one room and the non drinkers in the other. Just have to wait 13 years til your boy starts drinking! Lol.

  9. I am so mad I didn’t read this when I wanted to cruise solo. But it was more about paying double then eating alone. Now I see there are single rooms though but hard to find. I just came upon one just messing around. Any one know if any line actually publishes them instead of hiding them? Let’s make most lines have a few on each floor.

  10. Depends on how much time you have, how much you want to spend and your expertise or experience level of public transportation. As a New Yorker and someone who visits Boston OFTEN my suggestion is to NOT take the train. It’s way more expensive than the bus, usually a shorter ride (which I never get how) but obviously not as comfortable and it leaves you in the correct spot to get either a bus or nj transit train to Bayonne. Like someone said, with multiple people, luggage, time, stress dealing this may be a bit much but it’s what I would do. South station to port authority via mega bus, bolt bus (could be as cheap as $5) or greyhound to (your desired mode) to Bayonne. So plane is easier but

  11. Okay, just a couple things I learned with Cheers:

We had Cheers for the first time this cruise and it was nice to get pretty much what we wanted and not worry about the price tag. I feel we got our money's worth out of it even with 4 ports. We learned that if you order an alcoholic drink, you can order a non-alcoholic drink at the same time without having to wait 5 minutes between (say for example, you can get a cocktail and a soda together or a beer and a bottle of water together) or if you order a specialty coffee you can get a bottle of water with it. This wasn't a case of just one bartender skirting the rules, it was anytime we ordered at any bar. This is something I hadn't heard about before going and I don't know if it's something new, so I'd thought I'd share that.

We hit up the coffee bar a good bit and learned you're not just limited to the menu, you can pretty much customize your drink in several ways, my morning go to was a triple espresso with amaretto syrup and milk. Everything at the coffee bar is all included in Cheers, with the exception of one thing, Odwalla bottled smoothies, they are $3.99 a piece.

I'm gonna take a break for a bit, when I come back I'll cover the ports and the spa.

That’s good to know about ordering two drinks. I’m always amazed people buy water at $5 a clip but not the cheers package when they don’t drink that much and there are ways around that. Triple espresso?!! Wow good for you.

  12. Here is a link to the best bar on the ship, The Alchemy Bar. If you're getting Cheers, this is the place on board to utilize your drinks wisely. Unlike most of the bars on board, where bartenders make drinks using sugary junk and a lot of pre-made mixes, the Alchemy Bar is where mixologists craft cocktails utilizing higher end ingredients. The menu is just a sampling of what they do, they have the authority to make you whatever you would like and have the expertise to back it up. Unlike the guys pool side that follow menus and sometimes pour stuff from a pitcher that was made hours before.https://www.carnival.com/~/media/Images/explore/onboard/bars/menus/alchemy-bar-menu.pdf

Looks like there are some experienced imbibers. I like it. Thanks for the tips. I assumed no angels but have to ask. Woodford is a little rough to me still but I have a week to get used to it.

  13. Hi Alyssa,

I am in the same boat as you, so I have never cruised solo, mostly due to dinners. Perhaps there should be a solo group chat, where people could get to know each other and plan cruises together. I would cruise 52 weeks a year if I knew someone going!!!

YESSS BOXER JIM! It seems like it needs to be more men because it seems like there are more solo women cruisers (in my experience not so much non cruisers) and I am sure (assume) most women do not want to room with a man for obvious reasons even though most aren’t sketchy, harmful and aren’t trying to hook up. So I am definitely willing to get to know everyone and one day take over a ship with all solo cruisers. Lol.

  14. What are your favorite bourbon and vodka? I've been looking into bourbon on the ships and Buffalo Trace & Woodford are most common.

How did you find that? Angels envy and Tito’s.

  15. Its funny. Someone said it was $45 so I thought about it. Saw it at $90 and definitely said no. I’ve never waited on a line before at embarkation, not have had many tenders and don’t care about disembarking early. So until those things happen I will not get it. I’m surprised people do. Well just don’t fully understand the perks I guess.
