  1. I am currently on a transatlantic with my 6 yr old daughter..right now. The crew and staff go out of their way to acknowledge my daughter and entertain her. In the dining room they do whatever she wants food wise. and the Fun Factory keeps her busy for up to 9 hrs a day if she attends all her sessions. MOST passengers are happy to see her around. There are only a very small handful that have sticks up their bottoms but they just keep their distance and do not involve themselves with her. We can work with that. Children are very much welcome and you will enjoy it...all 4 of you x x

  2. Just returned from Eclipse Canaries cruise, lasting 13 days.

As usual service was of a very high standard, but the prices for the extras were so high and there was constant pressure selling. Many activities were at extra cost and the internet prices horrific.

The entertainment was extremely poor and disorganised.

The Captain and CD proudly boasted of how the ship was cruise ship of the year. It won't be next time.

Just read the recent reviews and you'll see I'm not alone in my thoughts.

    :(:(:(:(

Did you get back to port today?? Only curious because we are on the next cruise, but it doesn't leave tomorrow and no ship is in port..lol

  3. am i the only one who never has any problems spending obc?

If we get near the end of the cruise and there is some left there is perfume, handbags, watches.....and all those other things you didn't even know you wanted!

    i know right!! Lol

  4. I have a day hotel provided by Celebrity in Miami because I have a 9pm flight. Originally it was supposed to be a 5pm flight but I upgraded the seats and they had to change flight. So I asked what do I do and they told me they are providing a day room for me. I am lucky because it means I can drop luggage off. Maybe look into a day room??

  5. It is the norm, but most will not say it here and certainly not as consistently as I will. No kids unless it is holiday time. Plenty of other cruiselines that offer so much more.

Other cruise lines may very well offer more but the price tag attached to it is considerably higher and I for one fully intend to enjoy my cruise with my 4 children, regardless of the "children are not welcome"brigade. I know what to expect and so do my children

They will be reminded that bad behaviour will not be tolerated....BY ME!! :D

  6. I completely disagree. We have always done traditional late seating on every cruise we've taken where it's offered. DH has a lot of eating restrictions and it's very important to us to have the same wait staff every night so that the 20 minute educational session as to what he can and cannot eat only has to take place once during our vacation' date=' versus every night.[/quote']

My.mum and I always dine select dining and we.usually alays end up requesting the same.table/section in order to have the same wait staff. I prefer being familiar with my wait staff be a use I feel more comfortable.but the tradional dining times are either too early or too late for me.and.my.children...so it can be as straightforward with regards to special requirements as traditional dining is. :)

  7. I will be a party of 5 on the eclipse, and have paid gratuities in advance for select dining. Now, if i have to cue up due the amount of select diners, great.

BUT, if i have to wait because traditional diners have taken up spaces in the select dining area, you will have one upset mummy. I chose select because the traditional time were either to early or to late for my children. As a select diner, i cannot just pop down and grab a table in traditional dining room, so in my opinion, it should not be allowed the other way round either. It is hard enough accommodating those Blu passengers who decide that Blu is not for them after all, and of course suite passenger have the right (due to high cost of suite, so not complaining), to choose where and when they dine, with the exception of traditional dining. So, unless your willing to change your dining option completely, then no, select dining should not be an option. (again, this is my opinion)

  8. They have drunks areas in the Ocean view and also in the aqua spa cafe and outside by the mast grill.

Thanks for the laugh this afternoon!

I always wondered why soft drinks were extra.

You can bring on board as much bottled water and soft drinks as you want. Some people slap a luggage tag on it at the pier and it's delivered to your room.

I am so embarrassed..lol. What a spelling mistake!! ha ha ha ha. :p

  9. They have drunks areas in the Ocean view and also in the aqua spa cafe and outside by the mast grill. You can get basic tea and coffee and milk and water and there are some juices available, like lemonade and fruit lunch for instance. But soda, hot chocolate or anything else (including better quality teas and coffees) are all charged for as well as all other alcoholic drinks and cocktails and orange juice and apple juice etc. So yes, there are free drinks but they don't get served with your meals. In the ocean view you help yourself and in the MDR there is always water available.

  10. I ALWAYS get a drinks package and it is always premium. It's not about getting the most for your money. For me it is more about the freedom to drink what I want when I want. Sodas, water, teas, hot chocolate, igloos, wine, beer, cocktails etc etc. whenever I want as often as I want. And no bill to worry about. I just relax and enjoy.my.cruise. :D

  11. I am from the UK. I always book at least a year in advance. I book my chosen room with my chosen perks. Pay the deposit. DONE. Then I pay it off and go on my cruise. I know I am happy with what a book when I book it and don't bother with checking for price changes. Why would I? After all, I wouldn't book it if I wasn't happy with the price. Sorry you feel duped for want of a better word but you booked during a sale and were happy with what you.....until something better came along!! Unfortunately life doesn't always work that way and sometimes we need to take a chance.

  12. I did do a naughty one night. My mum was unwell and needed plenty of water....SO i went to my favourite bar person with an empty bag.

I got back to my room with 4 bottles of water for mum, and 4 cans of diet coke and a chocolate Igloo for me in one trip. Most of the time when this bar person served us, we managed to get a glass of wine and a can of coke or bottle of water at the same time. It is RARE for this to happen, BUT if you develop a good relationship with a particular server, then it might be worth asking. You don't know if you don't ask right? (by the way, had my mum not been poorly, i would never of requested quite as much liquid in one visit...lol (and at least it was non alcoholic he he he :D:D:p) lol :D:p:)

  13. From the Ts and Cs:

"Existing Bookings that wish to access the new benefits for the Buy One Get One Half Off + Free Classic Drinks Package promotion will have to cancel existing bookings and make a new booking.

(Please note cancelling existing bookings will incur cancellation charges)"

As we paid only £50 deposit, still worth it!

    Stuart

With a deposit that low, i would say go for it. Lose £100 for a half price fare?? SO WORTH IT LOL

  14. I have had a family removed from the solarium area (and they were none too happy) and if you want to call me an obnoxious hard ass so be it -- because if you or your little darlings are in an adult only area - then yes - I'm not o.k. with that. :p

Children are allowed on Celebrity and I accept that BUT if your child cannot behave in a civilized manner - than yes - I will shame you and them. There is not ONE person here on CC that comes on and admits to their child being the problem. Wait - there was the person that told the story of their child and friend who put their tongues on the Martini Bar (insert picture of raw tongue photos) - thereby having the entire bar de-iced for decontamination. The parents thought that was funny.

I am not out to annoy anyone with my children....There is no way in hell they will be setting foot in the solarium. I happen to enjoy the quiet of the Solarium and will be in there myself while.my children enjoy the Fun Factory. They will also not be allowed in the hottubs/whirlpools because I believe they are not suitable for my children's ages. They can be children in the fun factory and they will run off steam in parks while on shore. My plan for if/when they have a grump on, is to spend time in our room playing games brought from home. I appreciate everyone's need for a nice relaxing holiday. That is what I want too after all so will do whatever it takes to ensure my children do not cause any distress, but will also ensure they have one hell of a fabulous holiday. :D

  15. If I were going to take two children those ages on a cruise - Celebrity would not be my choice. While there is a kids club and kids are obviously welcome on Celebrity - Celebrity isn't that line that caters to kids. Why not chose a line where the goal is tons of family fun with all the bells and whistles that come with that? Where kids can be kids without getting the stink eye.

Celebrity is more sedate and there is a lower threshold of tolerance for children acting like children. I wouldn't chose to put my young ones in a position where they were expected to act like adults and have none of the really cool things that kids like to do. Very few children would rather lay by the pool reading than ride a carousel, go wave riding or ice skating.

I'm one of the ones that would be expecting best behavior from your children if you sail Celebrity. We chose to sail when we expect the least amount of children to be on board, we aren't the people that will put up with crying babies in restaurants and strollers blocking the hallway.

Everyone's opinion is different but I think the OP could do better for the kids.

Everyone is entitled to the holiday they want...lucky for me, at ages 6, 9 and 11, my lot are too old for strollers and crying in restaurants and blocking hallways. On the other hand, they are also too young for some of the things on the RCI ships, some of which require a minimum age of 11, meaning for 2 of my children it will be horrendous to see others play but they can't. I don't plan on taking them on Celebrity every time we cruise, this one is infact their first, so they don't know what else is available. But being disabled, my needs also need to be taken into account. I take my lot on a child orientated holiday in England each and every single year. Yes, this one is more for me, for a change. And I have way too much respect for the needs of others, than to allow my children to be the reason someone is unhappy.....We have a port intensive cruise, and we will be leaving the ship in every port and they will attend kids club from 9-5pm (other than between 12 and 2 for a swim and lunch), because i do not want any issue for anyone. That is not my aim. No, they certainly are not perfect, but they know when to behave. It will be an experience like no other for them.

  16. We take our kids on Royal Carib, it is not true that it costs double, in fact it is less expensive for what you get.

Celebrity is a couples holiday for us. Dont people do couples vacations any more? It would do your kids more good if you went away once in a while as a couple , than dragging them along because it is convenient, or cheaper for you.

It is not true that the new ships will have more for kids. In fact it is the opposite, Celebrity is looking to make "modern luxury" more of a reality with mid size ships that will have nothing for kids.

Modern luxury is not for those who want to change their babies and toddlers by the pool. It is not for those who bring strollers and prams aboard to wheel their offspings on the jogging track as those using them are trying to dodge them, it is not for kids in the dining room , where there is a certain decorum that is demanded/expected.

Cruise long enough and you will have all the things with babies, toddlers and kids in general to mar what should be a luxury experience.

Those of you here, that are so adamant that you take your children everywhere with you no matter how inappropriate because it suits you, when was the last time you went away just with your mate? I highly recommend it.

Moreover I recommend that you try Celebrity, have a quiet , romantic dinner, lay out by the pool or swim together, go dancing, stroll on deck after dinner, go into ports and enjoy time together, sit at a bar and toast each other, take a dance lesson, order room service and sit on the balcony, do a couples massage and all the other things I have left out here that can only be done on couple holidays.

That is the "modern luxury" Celebrity is offering and showing in their adds.

First, let me assure you that for the time frame i am looking for, the price of a RCI cruise was in fact double the price when i booked this cruise over a year ago....not that i should have to explain myself. Why else would i have chosen celebrity?????? Number 2, if celebrity was in fact truly for couples only, then i would not have been able to book for myself and my children because it would of been classified as an Adult only Cruise line...and it isn't. And probably most importantly....I INSIST on taking my children along on this cruise because we as a family have had 4 years of trauma and heartbreak, the latest being the death of my mother, so if i want to take my children on a cruise so we can gather our thoughts and be together, then that is my choice!! Yes, i have travelled as a 2some...me and my mum. And we had no issues with the children being on the ship..why would we. Oh and FYI, my children will indeed be eating in the MDR. After all, the experience of them eating in a formal environment is not alien to them so why should i deny them that because people have a problem with children being on their chosen cruise line!!! Obviously we will not be eating in any of the speciality restaurants, because i for one do believe they are adult enviroments and not suitable for my children. Especially my 6 and 9 year olds. I am sorry people do not approve of parents taking their children on a celebrity cruise, but this is what I have chosen, in part due to price, in part because i feel very at home on the Eclipse and also in part to soak in the memories myself and my mum shared on the 2 cruises we went on the Eclipse.

  17. Simply no, I would look to RCCL.

    J.

Sorry but that is NOT your call to make. I am taking my children aged 19,11,9 and 6 on. celebrity cruise and they are all looking forward to it. They know what there is for them to do and I will take some other bits and bobs for them also. They know how they must behave in the public areas and they know what they cannot do. ie press all the buttons on the lift, or run around the ship scraping and shouting. They are too old for public temper tantrums si that win't be an issue. People need to realise that we as parents need something suitable for everyone. Once thay are older, obviously RCI will.be better...If they.choose it. But no one has a right to tell people with children that no, simply.put it is not a cruise line for children. It is rude!!

  18. Please excuse my confusion, but my experience seems to be somewhat different to those stated here.

I live in the UK, and booked direct with Celebrity.

I originally had a Concierge room for 4 people with 2 perks. My oldest son decided he would like to join us after all, and i noted an available Family Room.

So I rang them and they changed my booking to family room, I kept all my perks, did not have to lose a deposit...all i had to do was pay for the bigger room at the going rate and the 5th person.

And my mum also noted a cruise she had booked reduced in price by nearly 1000 pound......she rang them and they refunded the money.

No need to cancel and re-book in both cases. I do realise it is a different story with travel agents, but we had a bad experience when we booked our first cruise with a TA (we were left abandoned in San Diego with no information on how to get to our pre-booked hotel), so we only book direct now..maybe that is the difference...:):)
