  1. This could happen sooner than you think. If the cruise industry sees this much potential, a flood of lobbying could begin, and Congress loves nothing so much as lobbyists...and their dollars. Once the various tourism trade associations start coordinating their efforts they could easily open up the island for limited tourism.

Yes, but certain members of Congress HATE the cruise industry.

  2. Does anyone think carnival will go to the wristbands like Disneyworld? I think the disney ships are making the move as well as RCCL. If you dont know what I'm talking about basically its a band that opens your door has all your info so you can make purchases it very convenient and less likely to be lost then the current SS card. What do you guys think.

Sent from my Samsung S3 using Forums mobile app

I can't stand the thought of even thinking I have to wear a wrist band.

I do like Disney's method of having one card for your hotel, the parks, and the ships. I also like their method of moving your luggage from you room to the ship. From the airport to your hotel. From your stateroom to the airport. Walking onto and off their ships thinking you're the only one doing it.

  3. We got off the Liberty yesterday, and I will say that I was a little let down. There were 11 of us and we all had the same concerns. Now let me say the Ship is Beautiful, and the staff and crew were wonderful.

It was the constant vibration the whole 7 days which was more noticeable in some parts of the ship then others. Like something out of balance.

Then the food did not seem up to part. Guys Burgers was good, and fast service, Fish & Chips was good, a little greasy, but it's fried right. I'm talking about the Main Dinning Room and the buffet.

There is something lost by having the same menu every night (except the port of call section). It was fun when you received the menu and you opened it up to see what you could order. We noticed that there were a lot of empty spaces every night and some at our table only ate in the MDR once. I think the American Table is a bust, they need to rethink it. Then the buffet seemed it had the same offerings every day. I have to be gluten free, and there was not a single day that I could go thru the buffet.

I have read others post about the food, and I know to each his own as far as taste, so I hope it was just bad timing on my part.

Other then that it was a fun vacation.

There'sgot to be a reason they haven't rolled out these menus fleet wide. I can only gather the feedback is not good, and that feedback should continue.

    I too like daily menus.

  4. Is there another someone to take the friend's place. Under most fares pax can be changed for a $50 fee.

    ^^^THIS>

In any case, it always pays to call and let THEM tell you your options. I had to do that once, and I did get money back, however, it was not any kind of restricted fare.

They're not ogres. They WILL see what they can do for you. To simply do a no show, you have ZERO options.

  5. if you have insurance you need to cancel.

If no insurance there is no reason to say anything except to get back her port and tax money.

But I will say that I am impressed that you were able to book the 18 year in her own cabin with your daughter.

Why? I put my 6 year old in her own cabin, as our cabin had a max of 2.

It was however adjoining, but I understand you can have older in their own cabin as long as it's within a couple of cabins of the parents.

  6. Just a thought, but what about the possibility that Vista could be a smaller modified version of the Pinnacle project by Fincantieri that was released a few years ago. As I understand, the project was only put on the back burner but was never officially canned. I think it was a great design and has a lot of potential.

That concept sailed 10 years ago, right into RCCL.

Even a mini "Oasis" wouldn't work.

  7. We may soon see what happens, but I would be shocked to see anything approaching a coup. Gangs roaming on Coki or St. Thomas? Did you get up on the wrong side of the bed today? While not perfect islands (can't think of many that are) I would not hesitate (there are a couple of islands that do fall in this category) to sail them.

Oh, and yes Coki Beach is well known as a location for drug sales, thefts, and gang violence.

Who knows. It seems many have forgotten history.

I keep hearing and reading people saying 54 years of an embargo didn't work.

    HUH?

Castro was intending on invading all of Latin America if memory collects right. He was going to be the leader of third world countries. That didn't happen.

As far as a true coup, I can only imagine who's waiting in the wings. I may have been watching too many black and white flicks lately.

  9. Here's the rub, though: The quarters weren't unsatisfactory to the OP, or else they would not have stayed in the room. That's exactly what Carnival will say, too, and rightfully so. If you refuse the business the opportunity to make something right (in this case by moving you to new cabins), you lose the right (in my opinion) to complain about it later. The OP can cry, "Health hazard!" all they want, but apparently they didn't think it was enough of a hazard for them to remove their children from the room. Carnival tried to rectify the issue on board, but the OP didn't allow it.

Again, I disagree. I had quarters where the air conditioning wasn't working right. The cabin was specifically chosen as it was the cabin we spent our honeymoon in, and friends we had met on that cruise were in the cabin next door.

We didn't move. Our choice. But the cabin was still unsatisfactory. Again, my choice. I got my $$.

  10. To be completely honest, this comes across as a money grab to me. To make it very clear, I'm NOT saying that mold is acceptable. My feeling, though, is that the OP clearly did not think this was too much of a health hazard at the time, since they declined to be moved from the cabin. Again, mold is unacceptable, but you DO have a few options. First, demand that the mold is cleaned. If the cleaning is unacceptable, you either move cabins or you leave. Period. Staying in the "unacceptable" cabin and then demanding compensation because you chose to stay there is just, well, a money grab. It's like having an unacceptable meal at a restaurant. If it's truly unacceptable, you don't continue to eat it and then demand your money back after you finish.

Carnival did not force the OP to accept the mold. The OP admitted that Carnival attempted to clean it and weren't successful (likely due to staining and the inability to remove the sink). Carnival offered to move them to new cabins, and they're offering compensation. OP, you would likely have had a better chance at getting more compensation had you actually accepted their offer of new cabins.

You don't know. This is all speculation.

All I do know I was unhappy one cruise where, being there were so many tweens on board, they closed the speakeasy bar and made it a temporary club.

I simply spoke my displeasure, and for those words, I was offered 20%.

So if 20% was worth one sentence, I would expect much more for unsatisfactory quarters. Hell, look at those cruisers on the Ebola cruise, who got a full refund, each and every one of them, because they missed a port. That usually only gets you $20.

  11. I will be taking my first Carnival cruise in April

I have just completed the personal details etc for this cruise and when I viewed the rules and regulations regarding the on board account I was surprised to note that if you choose the debit/credit card option to cover your on board account you will be charged 1.5%.

I e-mailed Carnival to check whether I was reading this correctly and they confirmed the charge.

I already have $700 on board credit so hope that my account will not be too large so would perhaps prefer to pay in cash

What is the system for cash payment - do they want a sum to commence the account when you embark the ship. Do they take the obc you have into account when calculating the sum required.

If you choose a credit card and then pay in cash at the end instead of charging your card is there still a cost.

Forgive the questions but in all the cruises I have taken we have never had to pay 1.5% or any % on the credit card charge for the on board account.

It seems a strange way to do business to me as USA never makes a charge for using a credit card for purchases unlike Australia and UK

I never heard this, till I saw your sailing was out of Australia.

Another reason there should be a separate board for Carnival AU.

  12. Want to get my Glory review up soon and PhotoBucket seems to be full of viruses. It works slow and my computer doesn't like it, so it closes it. My old computer won't even open it.

    Any other websites?

    Thanks guys!! :D:D

I just to say this surprises me. I've never had a problem with Photobucket.

Now, Webshots I can scream at.

And Facebook must have just changed something recently. I keep reading that people using it and had pix in posts here are now"gone" from the review.

  13. Is there really a downside to telling them at check in that my daughter will not be joining us on our cruise? (as opposed to just letting her be a no show and not saying anything)

I had a triple booked, and ended up going as a single. I called my PVP. She refunded the third fare, and told me they could do anname swap for pax #2. This is before ES, and was a Monday before a Thursday sailing.

Can't say this is the norm, but had I just gone as a no show, I would not have gotten a refund.
