  1. Hello! I'll be Cozumel on Carnival Vista in February 2023. I want to do an ATV excursion. I've researched several, but would love to hear if anyone has any recommendations. Ship time in port 07:00-15:00, local time 08:00-16:00.

The Carnival excursion has mixed reviews, and it sounds like the location is less than amazing.

Playa Uvas has two that look like better locales - one is on the beach, which sounds amazing! I'm leaning towards that one as a preference, but I worry about timing for getting there and back to the ship on time. They have 08:30 and 10:30 departures and state a 3.5-4 hour length. I'm don't think I could make the first one on time, and I have concerns about making it back to the ship in time from the second one. Pickup is Royal Village Shopping Center, which is a little walk from the pier. Does anyone have any first-hand experience with their excursions?

I have seen too many pier runner videos. I do NOT want to be one of those people! 😅

Things to note: I will be on the excursion by myself. I am not very interested in beach time, snorkeling, or any other add-ons, but I would like to have a nice place to eat lunch.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

  2. For some reason, I'm feeling less than enthusiastic about shore excursion options on my upcoming cruise (Carnival Freedom, late June from Seattle, WA). Planning ahead is usually my favorite part, but this time it's overwhelming. Our ports are Tracy Arm Fjord, Icy Strait Point, Juneau, Ketchikan, and Victoria, BC. We already missed the Tracy Arm Fjord excursion available to transfer to a smaller boat to explore as it is already sold out. I think this is causing part of my disappointment. Some of the rest stems from the fact that I'm seeing whale watching over and over, and that's not high on my list of priorities. I have done two whale watching trips in the past and both have been no-shows for any whales. I think if I knew I'd have an epic whale sighting, I'd book in a heartbeat to make up for the others, but I do very much understand that's not guaranteed.

We love wildlife. (Are we too early in the season for bears?) We love local color. Not big foodies. Not drinkers. Considering my first helicopter ride in Juneau.

(Edited to add: I'm very overweight but highly mobile. Many of the adventurous activities are sadly not possible due to weight restrictions - like the zipline, which I'd love to do.)

Please please help with any suggestions of the best options for a varied and rich Alaskan experience, including who to book with if possible. The excursions seem limited through Carnival, and some are already sold out. I'm also open to some self-exploration if you have tips for that as well.

Thank you so much in advance!
