Not sure, but I did receive a call from a Princess Vacation Planner at 9:30 CDT this morning (early on West Coast!) asking if she could help with future travel, or did I have any questions.

    Sounds like they are optimistic.

Yes, as did I. I asked about Princess plans and she said there is a corporate meeting today with a planned announcement for this afternoon. Not sure about exact timing.

I'm not familiar with a guide, but if you do some research online about some of the top sight seeing options outside of and around Juneau, you can map them out - there is basically one road out of town and one road over to Douglas Island so everything is very easy to reach. Sites  we have visited using our own car include: Mendenhall Glacier, Chapel By The Lake, Shrine of Saint Therese, Auke Bay, Eagle Beach, Salmon Bake, Macauley Salmon Hatchery (we fished here - so much fun!), Last Chance Mining Museum and Perseverance Trail, and the Treadwell Mine Ruins and Treadwell Mine Historic trail (on Douglas Island). Feel free and ask me any questions if any of that sounds interesting to you!

Hi Karatemom2, can you give me more details on fishing at the hatchery. My 17 year old really wants to salmon fish in Juneau. I have looked at charters but they are expensive. Shore fishing is fine. But I am having a difficult time tracking down where to rent poles, etc.

    thanks!

  3. Was showing my 17 year old photos I found online of the teen club on Royal and he was bummed that it didn’t have the dance club look he is familiar with from our Carnival Cruises. This is our first time cruising with Princess. We are going to Alaska in July. Anyone familiar with Royal’s teen club and how their teens have (or have not) enjoyed the club? Thanks!

Winona was very curt with me (via e-mail) about bending the schedule for cruise ships' hours. She basically told me they didn't do it. That the "special circumstances" mentioned in their description referred to things that might happen on board their boat (meaning engine trouble? seasickness? have no idea).

Princess changed our port times from 7-9 to 7-6 and I don't believe that leaves time to make all-aboard from the 2019 time tables. I'm going to be emailing her this week (she told me last July to do this) to see if they have changed anything since last summer.

Crystalspin,  what cruise are you on that has had the port time changed?

I have done both NB and SB several times with Princess.

Pro for NB - it gives you more time in Juneau and you can book independently AdventureBound Alaska which is ranked very high as a favorite excursion (boat ride into Tracy Arm/Sawyer Glacier).

Pro for SB - It used to have Hubbard Glacier. I am assuming it still does.

I haven't noticed a difference in time in Glacier Bay between NB and SB. I am out there all day as the whole day is gorgeous.

Both are good routes and you can't go wrong.

Coral, the Adventure Bound Alaska excursion does look very interesting. It looks like port time is 8 am. If boarding is 8:15 at Adventure Bound is that enough time to get off the cruise ship and to the AdventureBound?

  6. My husband and 2 teenage boys are planning a cruise only trip. Have narrowed it down to Coral Princess, as need a teen club for the youngest (very social and likes to connect with other teens) and Glacier Bay is a must. From there I am conflicted on north vs. south. South gives  much  more usable time in Glacier Bay, but less in Juneau. Also, Southbound has Ketchikan, but Northbound Icy Strait Point. We are active outdoor types and live in Seattle, so northwest and Vancouver BC are not new to us. Any thoughts/advice please? Thanks!!

  7. We arrive in Aruba in December 2017 on Carnival Vista with a published time of 8:00 AM. Is that the same as the local time? We are trying to arrange a tour with Jolly Pirates and I have heard the times are different. The tour leaves at 8:30, but if 8:00 ship time is actually 9:00 local time then we have a problem. Any advice?

  8. Planning for southern Caribbean in December and torn between a cove or balcony. My husband prefers the cove as he likes being close to the water. But I have also been considering a standard balcony on deck 7 or 8 to have a more sweeping view of the ocean and ports. Can you see straight down into the water from the balconies on the Vista? Or do you look down onto the deck below? Which is your favorite and why? Thanks!

  9. New to Carnival and keep hearing about the cove balcony cabins so have decided to try one. We booked 2290 but it is hard to tell from deck plans what is actually on the deck above-could be dining room or could be lobby. Has anyone stayed in this cabin? Is noise a concern? Thanks!
