  1. Has anyone done this tour in the last couple years?  It is an excursion at Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas port.  We are not big adventurers, so it seems the perfect way to see the two islands.  Mixed reviews, and only a few recent ones, but mostly people say it's decent. Current price is $64.00.

    From their website....

Spend a dynamic day exploring the sub-tropical forests and semi-arid scrublands of the Virgin Islands National Park before freely roaming around quaint Cruz Bay. Enjoy spectacular coastal scenery and soothing breezes while traveling by boat from Charlotte Amalie to the island of Saint John. Hop in an open-air safari vehicle for a ride around the national park’s coastal swamplands and sugar plantation ruins, viewing 800 species of plants. Enjoy free time in seaside Cruz Bay.

    Highlights:
    • Scenic Cruise: Set sail from Charlotte Amalie by boat and relish picturesque coastal views en route to neighboring Saint John.
    • National Park: Travel in an open-air vehicle through the island’s sub-tropical forests and semi-arid scrublands, home to 800 plant species.
    • Cruz Bay: Enjoy free time in the quaint seaside town, where you can souvenir shop or admire panoramic harbor vistas.
    • THIS TOUR IS OPERATED BY A TOUR OPERATOR THAT HAS BEEN THIRD-PARTY VERIFIED TO AN INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNIZED SUSTAINABILITY STANDARD.

  2. We went on a Royal cruise back in 2005. Either Navigator or Rhapsody, I can't remember now which.  It had a big screen tv above the pool area.  In the mornings while I was getting dressed, my husband would go and sit because they had Good Morning America on.  Do any ships or cruise lines still have this?  We have been on several cruise lines since, but years later and have never seen it again.  Maybe policies vary by ship/line? Does anyone remember seeing news of any kind on the big screens?

  3. Hello all!  We are starting to plan out next cruise. Both Harmony and Allure have cruises that go out on January 3, 2021.  The one on Harmony goes to St. Kitts, St. Thomas, and Coco Cay.

The one on Allure goes to Coco Cay, St. Maarten, and San Juan. We would be picking an inside cabin with no view.  I know that the ships are pretty close to the same, and that Allure will be getting updated before we go, but are the shows and food about the same also?  Looking at the deck plans Allure's inside cabins might be smaller. (but not a deal breaker)

We have always managed to do Western Caribbean, so this will be our first Eastern Caribbean, and I'm not sure which itinerary is best for us.  I have looked at the excursions, and again about the same for the things we would enjoy.  Prices are pretty comparable on either as well.  So I am looking for some opinions. Ultimately I know it is our decision, but some opinions will help us weigh the good and bad, pros and cons. Thanks!

  4. This pictures remind me of the "Behind the Fun Tour" that we did on Carnival last year. Does anyone know if NCL offers something similar?

  5. Just did this excursion this past week and thought it was awesome. Lunch was delicious, drinks strong and snorkeling great. Guides were very good and very helpful.

We are cruising on the Getaway in December and thinking about the Jolly Roger Catamaran in Roatan. My parents are in their 70s and wouldn't do the snorkeling, but the rest may be something they would enjoy. How much walking and obstacles is involved with getting to the tour?

  6. How much walking was required to get to the transport for the tour? Some ports have some type of golf cart type vehicles to transport people from the ship to the end of the dock. Do they have this at the Costa Maya port? When you get to the area where the NCL people are holding signs, how much further do you have to walk to get to the bus or van that’s providing transportation?

Good question....I wasn't thinking about the pier walk. I know that can be far at some. Maybe they would have a wheelchair they can provide just for that.

  7. My family is sailing on the Getaway in December and we are looking for excursions for my parents that are in there 70s. They are up for anything.....it's usually the "getting there" that's difficult for them. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was looking at the Salsa, Salsa in Cozumel, the Jolly Roger-Roatan Catamaran, and maybe Jeeps or dune buggys, or the submarines that are offered at different ports (Costa Maya & Harvest Caye). Does anyone have experience with the "getting" to any fun places? Some walking and stairs is okay, but is there a lot of obstacles, etc?

  8. Just don't forget that your forfeited deposit (less $50/person) will be available for you to use towards another cruise. Unfortunately since you didn't reschedule at the same time that you cancelled, it can't be used towards a deposit, but it can be used towards the remaining balance of another cruise.

Anyway, good luck, and I hope you get to go on one eventually!

Since I canceled after the "final payment date" that doesn't apply here. I lost the $250, but there was no $50pp service fee.

  9. Based on the information you have supplied, unless you are taking a 5-day or less cruise, you are past the final payment date (no matter when you made the final payment), but you are still within the 56-day limit. Early saver is not really an issue because the final payment date has passed.

Thus, the only question here is: If I paid a reduced deposit, is the cancellation fee the amount of the reduced deposit, or is it the amount of what the deposit would normally be?

I don't know the answer, but that's the question.

You hit the nail on the head....that is my question :) Yes final payment date has passed and yes it is a 7 day cruise. Thank you.

  10. You have said you paid 250.00 deposit(125.00) per person, so if that is all you have paid, then that's all you can lose... Also, if you purchased insurance that covers you for any reason, then you should be entitled to some of that money back from you insurance.

I did not take out the insurance, and the cruise was paid off in December.

  11. I am sorry, I know that this has been discussed before on here, but I couldn't find an answer to what was looking for. Due to my husbands unstable job, we are considering canceling. We are booked for April 2016, it is an ES, and I got 50% off the deposit. I did not take out the insurance and it was paid off in December. I put down $250 when I booked it. Now the contract #6, says the Cancellation Charge (Per Guest) is the deposit. So would that be $125pp? In my cruise details, it tells me that I would loose $250 is canceled today. But when I asked the VP guy that booked me, he says it would be $250pp. I know that it is not their job to cancel cruises, but he has been very unhelpful when I ask him direct questions. Feb. 14 will be the 56 days out mark.

  12. At the bottom line, whether you can visit any particular port on any cruise depends on the specific government regulations at that port when you visit, as well as the cruise line's own requirements.

So why wouldn't the cruise line tell you if you will need it at a certain port on your itinerary? Isn't saying a BC is enough, setting someone up, if the port that you visit DOES require it?

I have only cruised RCCL and CCL so I don't know what the other lines say in their requirements.

  13. I don't smoke anymore (husband does) but I don't want to have it blown in my face either. I do agree with "smoking areas" as I would not want to see people smoking just anywhere they felt like it. But it is unrealistic and selfish to expect smokers to not smoke at all on the ship for a whole week!

If you worked in the casino, I think you would have good reason to be concerned for your health due to smokers. But again, don't work there! But on vacation, in the casino for a couple of hours for a week, for maybe a few times a year, doesn't warrant a complete ban in all casinos. I think there should be a ban on stinky women's perfume too! That crap gives me a headache.

It's like guns, just cause you don't want to own one or don't fully understand them, doesn't mean nobody should own one.

  14. Slightly off topic....

I am not a smoker anymore. But I think it is silly that when you go on different ships, the smoking areas on outside decks are different on each ship?! Why on one its okay to smoke on the forward port side on the pool deck, but on the next ship, you have to go to the starboard side on the 11 deck. If they were the same from ship to ship, everyone would now where to avoid.

(examples only-I don't know if those locations are correct)

I think it would be nice to have a separate casino for smoking...to play, you have to smoke :) Of course if more people won in there, the others would say it was a conspiracy
