  1. Chances of cancelling a cruise are very slim - there are only a select few conditions in which this would occur, those being charters, mechanical issues, last-minute drydock decision (extremely rare, happened for Allure last January but that was the first I’ve heard of that) - overall I think you’re good. I would always recommend travel insurance in any case, just to be safe. Have a great cruise!

  2. I've seen people mention Tap-a- talk but I don't know what it is.

For a lack of better description, it’s basically a message board app where you can connect your accounts on various message board forums (CC and others) and all your subscriptions will show up in your notifications feed. I only use the app for CC, but it is very convenient and you never miss anything because all your notifications live in one place! I have it on iOS, and I believe it was free on the App Store.

  3. Just posting does not subscribe you. You have to add the subscription by clicking on thread tools

If you are using the Tapatalk app, posting to a thread does indeed subscribe you. I’m not sure about those not using the app.

I, for one, appreciate the work you do here and think it’s great to be able to know who’s in command of your ship. Thank you!

  4. Thank you-but when I was on Harmony last year, my son was 11 years old and I had to supervise him at all times. He of course could go on the flowrider because he met the height restriction, but they gave him a different colored wristband and wouldn’t let him ride if I even went to the restroom. Anyone else know this answer?

My apologies - I was not aware of any such rule, and even looked it up before trying my response to confirm I was providing you with accurate information. Case in point, I have been on many cruises with my family, including a brother who spends his days at the FlowRider - boogie boarding (although he has tried standup a few times). On the Oasis in 2014, he was 11 and while our parents would sometimes go back there to be with him for a little bit, I don’t believe they ever spent the whole day watching him. Granted that was 5 years ago so the rules may have changed since then; if they have, I have yet to hear anything about it or see it posted anywhere. My apologies again for the confusion!

  5. Deck 14 is directly below the pool deck, so there may be some noise. I would stick with Deck 12 as there are cabins above and below. As far as docking, as Bob stated, Harmony normally docks with the starboard side facing the dock, with the exception of certain port days when they need to test the lifeboats on that side, which occurs on select sailings based on the ship’s drill schedule. On sailings where this does occur, it will only take place on one of the port days, and all other port days the ship will dock starboard side as per usual. Generally, 12630 will look out at the dock and 12230 will have a view of the harbor.

The view depends on the port - if you book 12630, some days you may be looking directly into another ship’s balconies (or, given the height of Deck 12, directly across at another ship’s pool deck), and other days you may have a direct view of the island (as is the case with Labadee). Often times the port side will have a great view of the ocean or of the island itself, depending on the design of the port. Which ports are you stopping at? I believe the Harmony offers two eastern itineraries; which ports you stop at may determine which side is better for you.

  6. Tried to ask RCI on FB about the next Oasis Captain but they didn't know.

It seems as if Captain Goran could be switching ships with Captain Per, although Majesty to Oasis is a pretty big jump in size.

Thanks Karen for all you do here!

That is a big jump indeed - as such, I would imagine there will be some overlap with Captain Claus to get Captain Goran acquainted with the ship. Captain Rick of Symphony had never commanded an Oasis class ship until he started on Oasis for one contract to prepare him for Symphony. At the beginning of his contract on Oasis, he did two weeks of overlap with Captain Rob (also now on Symphony). Likewise, Captain Claus overlapped with Captain Per when he first started on Oasis. It’s routine procedure when Captains switch ships.

  7. Thanks all. We are in room 10189. Early January sailing...as in 112 day to sailing but who is counting

Your cabin is 9 forward of the one I had, so your view should be similar to the photos above. Great location in my opinion! As has been mentioned, there are ones with double-wide balconies slightly forward of the Rising Tide Bar, which also look to be in ideal locations but as the PP said, they are next to crew service areas (although there are interior cabins as a buffer next to the ones on Decks 12 and 14 on Harmony and Symphony only). IMO, you chose a great cabin and I hope you enjoy yours as much as I did mine!

  8. Again this is 10207, Harmony of the Seas, port side midship and the sixth balcony from the “living wall” at the forward end. Which area are you in? Either way, I’m sure you’ll be happy with your decision - I think you made a great choice on ship and stateroom! Safe travels and have a wonderful time!

My apologies that these ones are blurry, these are video stills. In the distance in the second photo is the Rising Tide Bar, while the first and third photos (and the bottom left corner of the second) show the skylights looking down into the Royal Promenade - I even got a direct view of the 90s party from my balcony, which enticed my mother and I to make our way down there and join in. I can’t say enough good things about this cabin and the relaxing atmosphere that came with it! ee61dac50b42754a85777825d786a1b3.png2cd683d3f8d5d5a45654a0fb46e81386.pngf2cc0f5219a90bf9c3a932aac4705b9b.png86c25e7e8f69e84acaf67efa8abd84aa.png

  9. Where do I begin? You made an excellent choice!!

I stayed in one of these cabins on Harmony - 10207 to be exact. My brother and I shared this room while our parents had 10206 across the hall. We loved these rooms so much that when bookings open up for our planned 2020 Symphony cruise, we will seek out these exact same cabins again, with 10208-10209 and 10606-10607 as our second and third choices. We love that location because it’s directly above where the musicians play at night, and it’s also the lowest deck of CP balconies meaning you’re as close to the park as you can get with a balcony - however, you’re still high enough to get a view over the entire park. My balcony was right at the treetop of a tree that stood directly outside (although the wind sometimes managed to blow leaves onto the balcony), and there was a corresponding tree on the starboard side directly in front of the balcony of 10607.

We specifically booked our cabins on Harmony because we had enjoyed sitting in the park in the evenings on our past Allure and Oasis cruises and watching the evening musicians up close, and had wanted a view of that area - while I have heard the sound quality is also better in this area, there are speakers throughout the park that the are connected to the musician’s microphone and also play cricket and bird sounds that can be heard anywhere in (or in this case above) Central Park.

It’s beautiful especially at night with the lights and sounds. During the day you’ll have some noise from the pool deck band (as is to be expected with any CP balcony on any deck), but it’s minimal from Deck 10 and it’s only in the afternoons anyway, when most people are either onshore, up on the pool deck with them, or elsewhere out and about the ship. Other than that, it’s very quiet and I often found myself sitting outside and enjoying the ambience of it. I had a Boardwalk Balcony on Allure and while I did love the view and would definitely stay in one again without hesitation, in my opinion it still can’t compare to the serenity of Central Park.

I hope my photos are able to provide you with an idea of what’s in store for you - I hope my post helped, and please let me know if you have any other questions!6495cd04ca185878731ead1c57afdde0.png1fc7a6f2662cd9f3c6439874777c316f.png7dddc72f59c8b947c3c20aeb4a91263d.jpg7851d45e4fc1d7244bd1f9272141b60b.png

  10. Hi,

Cabin 9429. I typically stay in inside cabins, but the last few cruises I have been spoiled and been in balcony cabins.

    Regards,

    ML

Hmm... that one could be a toss-up - I pulled up a deck plan and there are no connecting cabins on that side of that hallway to use as a reference point - not to mention it gets a little complicated predicting the layout of those inner interior rooms. I wish I was able to be of more help - either way, you chose a great ship, and deck close to many things as it is practically equidistant from activities up and down! Have a wonderful time!

  11. a contract can range from 8 to 12 weeks. That's why I am dependent on knowing the exact date a captain signed on. My excel spread sheet only calculates 10 week rotations.

That makes sense - I know that 10 weeks is the norm, but as you mentioned, there is often variation in the exact length of the contracts for individual Captains. Thanks again for all your hard work on this thread!

  12. Can somebody please explain how this list works? Specifically what is rotation? And how long does a captain stay in service on a ship?

A rotation is a Captain’s contract on a ship. It is called a rotation because each ship has two captains, rotating every ten weeks - however, Captains will sometimes serve 11-week rotations. Hope this helped clear things up!

  13. I’m not 100% sure, but I believe the On Air Club (Deck 5 towards the front of the Promenade) shows sporting events - additionally, the AquaTheater (Boardwalk, Deck 6) may sometimes show games as well. Safe travels and enjoy Oasis!

  14. We loved our Central Park deck 11 balcony in 2015. There were no perks at the time, but we quite enjoyed the Full Monty from the man across the way. Remember to close the curtains!

Oh my goodness! That’s quite the sight! Yes, always remember to close the curtains when changing - or anytime you’re not dressed, for that matter!

I have never witnessed this, but did witness a fun, juvenile pillow fight in the room across the park while I was on the balcony on the last night of my Harmony cruise last April. Alas, there is no way to post videos on here, so my footage of that shall stay off CC! Don’t worry, nobody got hurt and nothing damaged (I was surprised at the latter. The mother came back later with the stateroom attendant, who did not look pleased at the mess he had to clean up). Was a fun spectator sport to watch!

  15. Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I had a Deck 8 Boardwalk Balcony on Allure and a Deck 10 Central Park Balcony on Harmony, and will have another CP Balcony on Symphony. I loved them both, but really fell in love with the serenity of Central Park. I too heard a bit of noise from the Boardwalk being directly above the carousel, but the balcony door blocked out a large percentage of the volume. However, I could still hear faint ringing sounds until the carousel closed for the night. It sounds like you had a similar experience with the action of the Boardwalk and peace of Central Park - two things that are unique for different reasons, and I personally would book either one again in a heartbeat! Thank you again for the input, and I hope you have a wonderful rest of your cruise! Make the most of it!
