After several cruises, both by myself and with my son, I have to say it is difficult to meet other singles or single parents on a cruise ship.

I've gone to the singles events and found few people actually attend.

    Am I missing something?

Is it possible to meet someone on a cruise?

Norwegian has the best program for single/solo travelers.  They have an actual cruise member which organizes solo events every evening including happy hour and dinner.  It starts on the first night and gives everyone an opportunity to meet each other.  Would highly recommend Norwegian for anyone traveling solo.

As bellagio referenced, I would highly recommend NCL to anyone wanting to cruise solo and have a good chance of meeting other solos/singles. I would also limit my options to the ships that have studios. I haven't sailed any NCL ships without studios, so while I'm sure they still make an effort with singles, the studio scene on the big ships has to make a big difference I'd imagine in attracting/organizing singles. Outside of that, like in the "real world" your best chance of meeting singles unfortunately is whatever "club" the ship has at night...which isn't really my scene. You could also search the singles travel companies' sites and find when they're doing cruises. Even if you don't want to go through the company and pay the up-charge, there's nothing to prevent you from booking on the same cruise. You may not have access to some of their private events, but there are only so many pools, bars, etc... on the ship for them to hang out at!

I travel solo about half of the time and found NCL to be THE BEST with catering to solo travelers.  They assign a crew member who organizes solo events every night and makes sure that we're dining with each other instead of cruise lines like Celebrity which go out of their way to isolate solo passengers forcing them to sit by themselves versus at group tables!!!

Lemondrops - Please let us know how many Sky Miles you used to upgrade and to what cabin?

I'm very curious, maybe even nosy...

Just noticed that you're in Durham, NC and I am in Raleigh.  Am an avid cruiser and would like any suggestions that you might have.

Thanks all!  I just booked a repositioning cruise on the Oosterdam in April 23 from Ft Lauderdale to Rome.  We took a Western Caribbean cruise on the Rotterdam in 2019 and found the WIFI available was very good for a cruise ship (3 - 5 meg downloads most of the time).  I was concerned about a transatlantic crossing.  It doesn't have to be perfect but I'm hopeful it will be of the same quality as we had on the Rotterdam.

David, how did you find the Internet across the Atlantic on the Oosterdam?  I was looking at doing a TA, but will have to have Internet access, so would like to know your experience?
