  1. We just returned from the Sky 3 nighter over Christmas, 12/25-12/28/09 and DW, DS (14) and I shared a Cat. II Superior Inside cabin that was totally paid for with $1,000.00 in credit from the old rewards program on the MC. Booked it in January, then applied the credit to it (total of $992 for the three of us at the time I booked, including port fees & taxes). Then during early 2009 months I earned enough on the new World Points to get both a $100 OBC and a $50 OBC, and NCL correctly processed these credits onto our stateroom account, so it was a terrific "free" cruise.

  2. I got two (2) certificates, each worth "up to" $500 off a cruise, and I did have exactly 1,000 points through the end of last year. Next step is to apply these certificates to our current booking on the Sky--$992 was the fare for the three (3) of us. I will be able to apply the discount toward all three passengers, won't I?

I do plan to hold off for a while, make sure I'm not going to make any changes, that would be an administrative headache to try to fix if I'd already applied the certificates.

  3. Thanks Browe for the reply. After watching the travel channel show about Pearl in Alaska last night I got interested, and priced it out, and once adding in air fare, was REALLY sorry I didn't know about/join the mastercard program until last year--$1,000 doesn't make that trip do-able for us, though $2000 or $3000 might have if I'd had the time to accumulate points that I planned on when I got the card almost a year ago.

  4. And then there are those of us who still haven't received anything. If all certs were mailed by January 31st as originally promised, where do we fall in the scheme of things? I'm giving them until February 20th, but I'm tired of the date constantly changing and not hearing anything and won't wait any longer than that to take action.

I have gotten nothing. Absolutely nothing. I had 1000 points, my max for the year, by September 2008, so I paid the monthly balance as I always do and put the card in a drawer for the rest of the year.

Looks like I ought to wait until the end of next week before I start rattling their cage if I still have not gotten anything?

Can anyone who has used one of these certificates (I'll be getting 2 for $500 discount each), can I apply them to an already existing reservation (I booked Christmas on the Sky this morning)? And if so, will the discount be applied so that my deposit would be refunded (I booked 3 of us in an interior for $992, seemed the best use of a $1,000 credit). Had hoped to have the certificates already in hand when I booked, but I did not want the fare to increase or lose a preferred cabin location while I wait for B of A, so I booked.

Thanks in advance for any helpful responses/info, this will be our first time on NCL. Assuming I get the certificates, that is.

  5. [quote name='CRUZIN TOM']Their points value will probably be just like Princess. I just received an email from them announcing their new cards. Very similar to NCL's new cards. Most likely the same BAC. This is Princess's

Now that I'm in the mode of trying other cruise lines and the rewards cards are all falling into line maybe I'll try Princess (Disney did not, as I recall, give double points for charges with Disney, but if I am mistaken about that I apologize, I have not used that card in a couple years).

If I already have a card from the same issuer, would rather change the account to Princess than impact my credit rating by getting another credit card at this point.
  6. I knew I'd find the people with the answers. I did notice how some things that are simple and uncomplicated to one might give rise to questions from another (okay, quick, did I mention that i'm a lawyer? )

Example: "I don't think its that complicated. Simply put your can earn 1000 points in any statement year."

And the next thing I wondered was, "what is a 'statement year'"? But that's me being a lawyer and having terms defined is what I do all day long. The answer y'all did an excellent job of providing is 1) yes there is still a 1,000 limit to what you can earn in a year; and 2) the year is not a calendar year, but a rolling year from month #1 (since the points will start evaporating after 36 months).

So I'm just about there, with about 4 months left in year #1, and while the second NCL card is an intriguing possibility -- we did the same with Disney -- I just don't want to open another credit card, I'll just accumulate Hilton Points or maybe some Disney points toward use at WDW for DW and DS (I enjoy their cruises, but not the throngs at WDW) or maybe some Costco rebate points, as those are my other cards. Until February, when I'll take the NCL MC out of its holster and start firing again. I'm targeting Xmas week 2010, so maybe I can get a $3,000 discount by then.

  7. Hi, I wonder if anyone knows--is the $1,000 annual limit on the rewards you can earn toward a discount subject to a calendar year, or is the year based upon when we got the card (February for us). I'm about to hit the $1,000 limit/maximum, and trying to figure out when to switch back to the NCL mastercard, January 1st or the later date. I called customer service and bless her heart, she even got on the line to ask my question and got back on and said she checked and there was no $1,000 annual limit. Since I did not believe that her answer was accurate, I'll attribute it to maybe I mis-spoke, or used the wrong word, so that they mis-understood. I guess maybe I mistook points for discount dollars off a cruise fare, and that confused them?

Anyone who can define when the "year" begins and ends, thanks in advance, and if there is no longer any limit, thanks for letting me know that, too.

  8. Hi, I've never cruised NCL (yet), but am interested as a result of a friend's recent booking and the very positive write-up in the Frommer's Guide to Cruises book. And a terrific write-up on the Gem in this past Sunday's Atlanta Journal-Constitution. So I've gone ahead and gotten the NCL Mastercard, and my question is: Are there holiday blackout dates during which you cannot use the discount certificates? Sorry if that is answered elsewhere in this thread already, I did a search using "blackout" as a term and found nothing.

For comparison, using RCI's Visa, the "free" cruise or companion certificates cannot be used for any cruise that includes Christmas or New Year's Day. So using an NCL discount for a Christmas week cruise would be very attractive to me.

Thanks in advance for answering my question.

  9. You have to go to the Blond Giraffe. We stopped there while in Key West and they have the best home made Key Lime Pie. They are very well known for their frozen key lime pie on a stick. We tried that and their basic key lime pie and it is to die for. Everytime we go to Key West we go there and get a slice. You can actually watch them make the pies!

It's not very far from where the cruise boat docs. It's within walking distance. We walked.

    Enjoy!!!

Ditto. Easy walk to Blonde Giraffe. Wish the regular pie also had a graham cracker crust option, as that is my fave, but we had both the frozen and unfrozen so its all good.

  10. Some of the same "are the doors metal" type-questions in this thread are the Q's I had when I did a search for "door sign" and found this thread. I decorated my door my last cruise on Disney and was guessing the doors would be magnetic/metal on RCI also, but did not recal from Empress because it wasn't something I knew about or though about as a cruise newbie at the time. Might just make up my own using powerpoint, w/ clip art, photos (many of which I've downloaded from photo albums on the net), etc., and print on the magnetic photo sheets. Also have from Wal mart, and maybe some from office depot as well.

There are also business card sized magnetic sheets, with an adhesive side to put on the back of your business card so clients/contacts cant just put it on the fridge--these are sold in stacks of 25 or even 50 I think, often right by the check out in a Staples of someplace like that. Take one, cut w/ scissors into smaller strips, and you can attach w/ the adhesive side to any non-magnetic sign you create. I had to cut a few into tiny bits to attach about a dozen mickey heads to my last DCL door along w/ the larger sign.
