  1. This is why we usually buy insurance that includes a travel interruption clause. Sadly we did not this time as it was kind of a last minute planning thing. We are leaving this weekend out of New York and ours was changed from Bermuda to the Bahamas and Port Canaveral. Like the other person that said... Make the best of it and don't sweat what you can't control. :)

  2. We walked the beach going to Jack's, then walked the road back to the port. One of our party has some knee problems but once she started walking in the wet part it was fine. As for being rude, we had a problem with how long it took to get my ox tails and the owner was very apologetic and supplied several of us with free shots of rum until the food arrived. I did not see the rudeness at all. I think part of it is cultural and part is just life... we all have good and bad days and when a ship pulls in their day goes from zero to one hundred in the blink of a eye. We all loved the dog digging plus a few other local dogs looking for handouts. All in all a great experience at Jack's!

  3. We will sail on the Silhouette this Sunday, January 25. We are Elite and as I understand it, we will have priority tender tickets. We have friends traveling with us who are NOT Elite. Will they be able to get priority tender tickets

    since they are with us?

Even if there is not a formal policy, keeping high level customers happy is generally the norm. Many times it only takes a face to face with a concierge to get things done. We regularly ask hotels for "help" with traveling companions that don't have gold or platinum access and usually get decent results.

  4. Oh and thanks for the review. We were also in a concierge room. I'm in the middle of doing a similar review but thought I would respond to some of your points. We also felt the afternoon "snack" was silly and a waste. I wish we would have know about getting drinks by the pitcher though. That's a great tip. We pretty much agree with your appraisal of the cruise and was wondering what cruise you signed up for.

  5. Can I ask how long it took to get a tender to Grand Cayman? People on previous sailings said it took hours. Did you arrive on time to your ports?

We were on the catamaran scuba excursion and got on an orange ship provided tender at 8:30 with no wait. They were banging them out pretty fast.

  6. I'm sitting waiting to disembark from the Silhouette as I type this. I concur with the previous post. Our experience was about the same. Several men had a tux but most were dressed similar to me, dark dress pants and jacket with a tie. A few bucked the system by foregoing the jacket but pretty much all the men had ties that I saw. The Sunday dress description used was accurate here for the women also.

  7. While I don't care what others wear, I do respect the rules and even more so I respect my elders. I realize it's a generational gap so it is what it is. Here's the way I look at it. I'm 49 and come from a background of only dressing up for special occasions like parties and other gatherings. On the other hand many people dress very well as a way of life. It's a week long party in my mind. Many people pick the upscale cruise lines specifically for the atmosphere. Dressing well for a week has no negative impact on me. On the other hand, not doing so can only diminish the experience for others looking for the glam or whatever. Who am I to be selfish enough to not care about others. If half the mdr was in jeans I would still feel I was doing the right thing. Just my own feelings on the matter.

  8. There will always be a percentage of people that try to buck a system. Once a behavior becomes the minority it's no longer the norm. I'm sure at some point dressing up for formal night will slip away but I would never let someone else ruin it for me. Unless it's a mIxer, we dress for ourselves so that's all I care about. There are ways to hint and make their "difference" known without being too rude. Just introduce yourself to them and then the couple next to them. Compliment how nice the people next to them look. Lol

  9. I literally just clicked submit on my reservation for the 11th. Is it a good idea to book a sailing as the ship comes out of heavy maintenance? Should I cancel and rebook on another ship, I am within my 24 hours. By about 23hrs 50 minutes... haha

We just booked the same cruise. We are going to roll with it and hope for the best. Hopefully we can meet a few folks from on here and compare notes through the cruise... :)

  10. We are booked on the 1/11/15 Western Caribbean cruise on the Silhouette. Based on an earlier post here it looks like that tour is not effected by the slower speed. We are pretty new to cruising but have 3 booked for next year. LOL This will be our first on Celebrity so hopefully it will be a good experience.
