  1. I also agree that all Haven amenities are available to you once your room is a H category. This is true if you booked H to start with, did a paid upgrade or somehow by the grace of cruise ship gods you received a free upgrade. Just know that prepaid gratuity does not cover butler & concierge. The pool tends to get crowded in the haven so claim your spot early. You will enjoy lunch in the haven since you will be part of a small number to get onto the ship first. During this time make sure all the excursions are correct and if you want specialty dining at specific times then the concierge can do it all so once you get into your cabin your trip is smooth sailing. The haven restaurant has the same menu everyday but a fun fact is that you can ask for a complete custom meal and the chef will make it for you. Also, you can have a group reservation at Tepanyaki but you’re in the mood for Cagney’s. Well they will cater to your needs. Hope all this helps. Have fun!!

  2. Coming into the United States on ESTA is fine by air but then they are leaving the country by Sea on NCL. Therefore, they will not be permitted entry into USA again after the cruise because per ESTA rules once your 90 days or the date you leave you have to wait another 90 days before coming back into the country on a new ESTA. That's why they recommend a tourist visa with multiple entries so that you can leave and come back.

I wish they informed you of this before you spent all that money but it's all clearly written on the state department website.

  3. We have never had a problem getting on or off the ship. NCL concierge escorts us off since we always stay in suites. I always thought that debarkation was color coded, by floor or cabins to make it smooth. Never knew it was a issue. I see long lines when I walk past everyone but I thought that it was organized. Hope they can come up with something better for a more smooth and fast experience for nonsuite guests.

  4. I can't remember the last time we ate at a MDR. We are fans of specialty dining and try something new everyday. We do steak twice on the cruise. I don't like going on the first night because everyone wants to be there because there is a discount and service is usually a bit slower. Second and last nights are the best for us.

  5. The ship would never leave early because they would be liable for every passenger left behind. It would cost them more money then you paid for the cruise so they wouldn't do this. For some reason if there is a medical emergency and hospital is not available then the patient would be airlifted from the ship.

Now if you miss the ship by even one minute then you're on your own. Use you credit card or call family to western union money so you can get to the next port. This scenario is if you miss the ship because you booked your own excursion, were out shopping or any other reason.

If you miss the ship because you were late from a excursion you purchased directly from the cruise than you are safe once again. This doesn't mean that the excursion is over and you went shopping and missed because then you're on your own again. You are only covered if the excursion is late but most of the time the ship will wait and not leave simply because they are on the hook for your flight, hotel, transportation and meals.

Hope this helps answer your question.

  6. LIKE BUTTON!!

Stiffing the entire crew is just wrong on so many levels.

Here's a scenario: I flew from Houston to Frankfurt and when we landed it was a hard landing. Now in reality this isn't possible but let's say it is just for a second. I send a email to the airline and say the entire flight crew, baggage crew, people who fueled the flight, catering, checkin attendant, cleaners and many more should be wage garnished and I should be entitled something back.

Or even better scenario: the passengers left their personal item onboard which was not recovered (implying more tip in your case) and everyone should be wage garnished.

For your info: In my previous comment I wasn't implying that Groupon was not a good or successful company. They clearly are but as a businessman I know how some of their customers expect the entire store for FREE.

It's like one in a thousand people you meet and wish you never met them.

This is clearly one of the reasons why DSC goes up because people pay it and then claim they paid too much and ask for 100% back.

DSC- refunds are really meant for sub-par service. Not because you tipped a person or two too much. In the Haven we tip butlers, concierge, room stuards and Haven restaurant staff on top of the DSC. You can't then send a email and ask for the prepaid amount back. That's just unethical and morally wrong. The fact that this thread is still going on is just shameful!

  7. You're on vacation and the employees on the ship are working hard to make sure you have a great time. So how about you leaving the DSC on for them as a thank you! Seems like your "companion" is one of those Groupon users that expect the entire store and not pay anything.

  8. Haven is designed for families and everyone else that can afford it. I think the people that have a real problem with kids in the Haven area should pick another cruise line that focuses more on couples in their "first class" area. Kids are a huge upsell for NCL and without them they wouldn't really be who they are. Yes, I have a son but I try to pick a time to take my son to the pool when it's not busy so we don't disturb the couples that are trying to relax and read a book. I think that if everyone is considerate of one another than this topic wouldn't come up. With that said NCL still offers adults only area on the ship. Seems some people get too worked up over this issue and for them I can recommend the spa for a nice massage. Happy sailing everyone!

  9. You don't need to take off from work and fly to San Francisco. Make copies of the application and your passport for your record and mail the original passport, application for visa, pictures and money order to the consulate with a prepaid fedex or UPS envelope so they can send it back to you. I do it all the time from Texas to D.C. It's the fastest and most economical way and you don't have to waste your money on a agency which will do the same thing for you. Happy anniversary and Bon Voyage!
